When starting this I felt a little lost and thinking this was part of another series that explained it a little better. As I continued to read I found this to be turn as the author talks about other storylines. It took me a little while to catch up but soon it all fell into place.
Valerie Gilbert did a great job on the narration. She gives a very smooth listen with wonderful character voice. She goes give wonderful emotion and you can tell what each are feeling. Her characters voices were great you did not have any trouble telling who was talking. I did enjoy her many character voices you could always tell who was talking and just what was on their mind. I found no background or any places where the volume was higher or lower at the beginning of a chapter. You could not tell if any breaks were taken the audio was a smooth clean lesson. Her male voices were a good as her female ones. I really enjoyed her voice and the feel she gave to the read.
The family comes together after the mother has a stroke to celebrate Ronald and Becky's Wedding anniversary. They also have to come to terms with Becky’s recent stroke. The family are overcompensating which leave her feeling suffocated. For those of you that have read the other series the author lets you get caught up on each family member going over pass struggles. I really thought it was an emotional read but I kind of felt left out. I would recommend you reading the other books about this family I feel if I had I would have enjoyed it more. I am sure once you do you will totally enjoy this read. It was well worth the listen just to get to know the narrator.
Just as a warning, even though this is listed as the first in a series, it builds upon all of the other Friessen novels previously published. Please don't read this one until you have read the others. This installment of the saga, finds us at the vow renewal and anniversary celebration for the elder Friessen couple, Becky and Rodney. Since Becky's stroke, the entire family has tried to come together and move past their various problems to support each other as a family. This reunion lets readers get caught up with each of the children and their families.
Although first in this series, this book actually builds on the previous Friessen novels so I was a bit adrift to begin with as I had not read any of the previous novels. However I soon caught myself up and there are mentions of the previous storylines throughout so I managed to get the gist of the previous action.
The Friessen family are having a get together to celebrate Ronald and Becky's Wedding anniversary. They are also coming to terms with Beckys recent stroke. The family are overcompensating and she is begnning to feel she is being stifled by their ever watchfulness. This reunion lets readers get caught up with each of the Freiessen children and their partners since their own novel and to see what they are still struggling with.
It was nice to see that not every couple had had their problems resolved in their own book, but that they were continuing to build their relationships and strengthen their bonds.
I received an ARC eBook in exchange for an honest review. This is the first book I have read regarding The Friessens and it was heartwarming and sweet! I loved all the characters and now am eager to read the early books! It is no wonder why Lorhainne Eckhart is a best selling author! Her stories draw you in from page 1 and keeps you flipping pages because you can't get enough! I look forward to reading more by this MUST-READ Author!!
Fast paced, the characters have come live Very much enjoyed the continued growth of the characters Read all of Lorhainne Eckharts book. I'm always waiting for the next one.
This celebration of family is a culmination of the other Friessen books. While I have not yet read them, the story is a true depiction of family life. We are confronted at first with the stroke of Becky, and just coming home from rehabilitation is ready to have her boys, daughter-in-laws and grandchildren surrounding her to help celebrate her anniversary with Rodney. The three sons each have a wife, each with their own struggles. I found this refreshing, the book is honest and gritty with the problems that each of the couples face and how they interact with each other. I do think this should not be the preface for the series though, knowing the backgrounds from the other books would have been helpful in understanding the depth of characters better.
Valerie Gilbert narrates this book with her incredible versatility. She is able to take a story like this and give each character it's own voice, easily discernible when listening. From the stroke victim of Becky and her difficulty of speaking all the way to the children's voices, her talent comes forth letting you feel the pain, angst and love of this family.
Another beautiful read of the Friessen family by Lorhainne Eckhart. This book has the whole family together to celebrate Rodney and Becky Friessen’s 45 wedding anniversary not long after Becky returns home after suffering a stroke. This is a fabulous series as is this book and I love how they all look out for each other and have a genuine love for all their family. You fall in love with all these characters and feel you a part of their family. Lorhainne Eckhart with every word you write you truly capture my soul and every time I finish one of your books I eagerly want to begin reading another because I just can’t get enough. Thank you for another beautiful story . Highly recommend this series and any books by this author.
I received an ebook copy and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
THE REUNION brings the Friessens back together, some still struggling with how to handle life’s challenges & past hurts, others building a stronger connection having moved past their challenges & hurts. This ties together family relationships which connect to storylines from the previous Outsider and New Beginnings series. Reading those stories will be helpful to understanding the family dynamics in this tale but not necessarily a requirement to your enjoyment of this story. There’s a lot of emotions and family drama in this tale which will tug at your heart and also a touch of suspenseful drama which adds some excitement. All in all this is a very engaging read. It always feels like you’re coming back to visit with family when you read a Friessen family novel, especially the ones that bring the whole family together like this one. I know you’re going to really enjoy this. I sure did!
Lorihnne Eckhart has such a strong sense of family and it comes through in her writing. Families are not always black or white but somewhere inbetween. This book explains the "in-between" of the Friessens couples. Each couple deal with situations that any of us could have ended up in. From insecurity to infidelity, each situation has been presented as issues to be dealt with head-on.
Although the Friessens men are totally alpha males, their wives run into problems, often created by being loved too much.
I enjoy how each story couple's story is woven together by an invisible thread that proves that family will always come first.
The story develops around the relationships existing among the brothers and the bonds created among their wives and parents. There are secrets that may breake and shatter these relationships or make them stronger. Communication, honesty and respect are essential and the basis of those links, but still secrets run deep. The Reunion gets the reader´s attention from the beginning with the multiple small plots happening among the family, it makes an interesting and entertaining reading! I received a free copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.
The Reunion (The Friessens #1) was a great read by Lorhainne Eckhart. Beck and Rodney Friessen are renewing their vows. In this book all of the Friessen clan are back for a beautiful celebrations. Their sons Brad, Jed, Neil and their nephew Andy are there along with their wives and children. I enjoyed reading this book and cant wait to read more by the author.
I am totally hooked on this family each story leading up to this so far is truly awesome each story is so real ,romantic so completed wonderful very emotional. This is bringing everyone together for the mon and dad to renew their vows and is the next level to their stories .so well written
Rodney and Becky Freissen had their family come together to celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary. Their sons and daughter-in-laws learn to communicate and iron out their differences all while enjoying their stay in Cincinnati. Valerie Gilbert has a nice voice.
this story starts off almost in what should be the middle of the book. we meet Becky who has had a stroke and the family that surrounds her and tries to help her. I think we are missing very valuable information since we never really got an explanation of the characters we just jumped into their lives. I wonder if these Were Somehow marked wrong and listed this book is the first in the series. it was an entertaining family dynamic, but I felt like we were seriously missing something. the only reason I didn't stop this book was because of the narrator, she did a fantastic job bringing each of the characters alive and keeping you entertained throughout the entire story. I will read other books in the series to see if maybe we go back in time and get some answers.
I absolutely loved all the little glimpses that The Reunion gave into the Friessen clan. This book gives a real look into what makes relationships work, the good, the bad, the ugly. And it shows the strength and love that comes from a family banded together.I cannot wait for the rest of the books in this series.Lorhainne Eckhart has without a doubt hit it out of the park again.
I was given an ARC for the purpose of leaving a honest review.
Rodney and Becky are renewing their vows, and the whole family is there watching them. Neil and Candy are still trying to work out their problems. and Candy still doesn't trust Maria the person who carried the child for Neil; Candy is afraid that Maria will come and take Michael away from her and raise him be herself. Stella a good friend of Neil's and Candy, takes Neil and the brothers and cousin Andy to the meeting with Maria, and they are all afraid of Stella as she takes nobody's shit.
I received this book in exchange for a honest review. This is the first book I've read by this author. It's a short story about the Friessen family who have been through a lot, but remain strong and loyal to each other. It's a good story if you like one about families and their dynamics.
This is my first time reading about the Friessens. I liked the characters but felt like the book was too short and didn't really let me get to know much about them. Perhaps if I had read the earlier books I might feel differently. I was gifted with the book for an honest review.
I could not get through this book. It is too hum drum boring for me. However I felt the same way about The Bridges of Madison County and Gone Girl , which were both huge hits. So please don't use my review as a reason not to read this book.
