Rate this book

Charles-Louis de Secondat, baron de La Brède et de Montesquieu, generally referred to as simply Montesquieu, was a French social commentator and political thinker who lived during the Enlightenment. He is famous for his articulation of the theory of separation of powers, which is taken for granted in modern discussions of government and implemented in many constitutions throughout the world. He was largely responsible for the popularization of the terms "feudalism" and "Byzantine Empire."

_True History - Arsace et Isménie_

Maybe a 4,5.

This is so cool xD

I was laughing in the first 20-30 pages. It was a genuine and honest laugh, i did not know what i was going into and i found him being hilarious.
This is philosophical/social commentary i guess, i really enjoyed it. What i got out of the book is that he had so much love for women, he adored them, while being honest about them. He was honest about the human race in general and he did it with honesty and tenderness love. He was very kind all the way through.
The book consists of two different stories, True History and Arsace and Ismene. I quite enjoyed both of them. The second one is more like a fairytale but in the end you can see the social/emotional/philosophical aspect of it.
I will read more of his work in the future for sure <3

I can imagine that at the time it was written, this book was a success. Or maybe not, I haven't really looked it up.

We follow the several reincarnations of the protagonist, who can, by the grace of his spirit guide, remember each of his lifes.

At times it's funny, but the whole picture projects a sad image of people, of the lives wasted, the general disintrest of his life's of the protagonist.

There are however quite a few wise sentences in this book.

Wonderlijk boek!

maybe this book was great and special, considering the age it was written. the lives of the main character blend together, to be honest, and his view is pretty sexist, which was obvious, considering the age it was written. i liked the last book best, it was most quotable and actually gave me something to think about. i love how the main character had to help out supernatural creatures, i wish, there was more of that throughout the entire book.
