The Desmond Cole Ghost Patrol Collection (Boxed Set): The Haunted House Next Door; Ghosts Don't Ride Bikes, Do They?; Surf's Up, Creepy Stuff!; Night of the Zombie Zookeeper
There’s no job too scary, icky, or risky for Desmond Cole and his best friend, Andres Miedoso, in this spooky four-book collection!
When you move to a new town, grown-ups always give you a lot of advice. They say you should explore your new neighborhood right away. They say you should make new friends as soon as possible. They never tell you what to do if your town is haunted. Good thing I live next door to the coolest, bravest kid in the world, Desmond Cole. Together, we’ve explored a haunted house, chased bikes that ride themselves, shared a beach with mersurfers, and even met a zombie zookeeper! Join us for some spooky stories…if you dare!
With easy-to-read language and illustrations on almost every page, the Desmond Cole Ghost Patrol chapter books are perfect for emerging readers.
This creepy collection includes: The Haunted House Next Door Ghosts Don’t Ride Bikes, Do They? Surf’s Up, Creepy Stuff! Night of the Zombie Zookeeper
Andres Miedoso is still afraid of everything as a grown-up, even after all his adventures with Desmond Cole. He lives in New York City with his family, and he remains best friends with Desmond but returns to Kersville only when he's needed.
I love this series! I recommend starting with the first book, but after that it's okay to skip around, although we've been reading them in order. My favorite is Surf's up, creepy stuff; but I love them all. A great series
The series: - Well written and funny; uses good literary devices such as bookending, foreshadowing, allusion - Not too scary, but suspenseful (perfect for my 7 year old) - Great characters and character building including a hispanic boy and a black boy - Generally the reveal reveals that what was scary is just not knowing, and that the truth is cooler than you'd think (still paranormal) - A nice balance of black and white illustrations and text (again, great for my 7 year old) - Reading level... good for an emerging reader- those who have learned all the base words and are ready for beginning chapter book
My children love these books and as a bonus I do too.
In the book Desmond Cole Ghost Patrol: Beware of Werewolf, we go on an adventure with Desmond and his friend Andres. Although I have not read other books in the substantial series, I quickly adored the two characters. The book is perfectly suspenseful and scary, keeping the reader on their toes the whole time. This text is ideal for readers who are graduating from beginning readers to chapter books. There is a lot of character development and dialogue for early readers to enjoy. I think this would would be great for practicing digging deep into character feelings and character traits.
I found this series in my co-workers classroom library and was curious to read it.
