In the second book of The Isle of Misfits series, Gibbon the gargoyle and his new mythical creature friends go on their first mission!
Gibbon is new to an island full of mythical creatures with a school that is training students to go on missions to protect creatures in trouble. He and his new friends, a dragon, a fairy, a griffin, and a yeti, are all excited when they are chosen for their first mission to help another creature. Declan the leprechaun has lost his gold, and even though all the other leprechauns think he's just scatterbrained, Declan is convinced that someone has taken it!
Will the misfits be able to complete their mission help him find it?
A group of mythological creatures are friends in this series (a gargoyle, dragon, fairy, griffin, and a yeti. The misfits go on a quest to help a Leprechaun find his missing pot of gold, and end up also helping a kelpie. This is a cute early chapter book with a fantasy setting, but a story very much grounded in the concerns of first or second graders: Friendship, helping others, going to school, and concerns about developing skills more slowly than peers.
I liked the mythic creatures, and was impressed that the book included Kelpies because they are not well known.
