The Mountain Man’s Muse is book one in A Modern Mail Order Bride series by Frankie Love. I’ve been wanting to read a mountain man romance and decided to go with a familiar author to me. I really enjoyed this. It’s a short, sexy, sweet story that was perfect for an afternoon read.

River Ryder is an accomplished author. But when his ideas ran out, he decided he needed to get out of the rat race and start fresh somewhere quiet. So he moved to Alaska and is living a solitary life. Only it didn’t work. He stares at his keyboard, and nothing. He needs a muse. So why not a mail order bride?!

Rose lives in Los Angeles and is a yoga instructor on her You Tube channel. But she’s just getting started, she’s broke, in debt, and unsure what to do. When her neighbor suggests becoming a mail order bride, she decides that it would be a fresh start, just what she needs.

Rose and River’s first meeting might have started a little rough. But the initial chemistry was there like crazy. One look at Rose and River knew his writing block had lifted. His new wife was also his perfect muse.

“I’ve never met her, but with one look, I already know she is mine.”

I did enjoy this. River and Rose were cute as they navigated getting to know each other. Poor River. He didn’t know how to act. He’d been alone so long. He was overcome both by Rose’s beauty and sweet nature, and by the inspirational flood gates that suddenly opened up in his head. And Rose, coming from Los Angeles to the wilderness of Alaska, adjusting to a new life being married to a reclusive mountain man, is daunting. But she is determined to make it work, no matter what. Even if danger has also followed her to Alaska.

If you enjoy a sexy, short adventure for an afternoon of reading, then this book is definitely for you!

Look, I know not to expect much from writers like Frankie Love but I just wanted a quick, smutty read on a Sunday afternoon. Is it too much to ask that it be remotely well-written and free of typos? I suppose it is.

A little character development would be nice too.

So our hero is a reclusive but commercially successful author living in Alaska who decides to get married in the hopes of combating the writer's block he has been fighting for two years. The heroine is a broke but aspiring YouTube yoga instructor who is looking for a change of scenery from the crowded wasteland that is Los Angeles to promote her channel. Her sweet old Italian neighbor suggests she contact her daughter who is a matchmaker with a 100% success rate because marriage to a stranger is certainly the answer to all her problems!

The hero picks his "bride" up at the airport, and immediately makes a less than stellar first impression by going all cave-man because he sees other men admiring her looks and being nice to her. After a quick stop at the courthouse to get hitched, he whisks her off to his mansion (because all suspense writers are millionaires) in the woods where he makes love her (it is their wedding night after all) and then basically holes-up in his office for a week to write the novel she has inspired in him.

During the week of solitude the heroine figures her new hubby must have been less than impressed by her talents in the bedroom (she was a virgin) so she instead opts to focus on filming her YT vids and growing her brand. She also manages to further attract the attention of an online creeper who has relentlessly pursued her from the mainland and seems to be getting closer and creepier with each video she uploads.

When the hero finally decides to come out of his hole, he has penned an entire manuscript--apparently inspired by the ONE NIGHT of interaction he had with his "bride"--and decides he is completely moonstruck by her. She, however, seems not as moved or enthused by this man that married her and then completely ignored her.

The chemistry between the characters was not even remotely believable and the typos were not the worst I've ever read in what I'm assuming was self-published work but it could have seriously have benefited from a second pair of eyes.

This is book 1 of the Mail Order-Bride Trilogy.

River is a writer who has a horrible case of writer's block. He comes up with the idea that he is in this slump because his life has become boring since he has trapped himself in the middle of the wilderness.

description

So why not buy a bride?

Rose needs a place that isn't wild crazy Los Angeles. oh and did we forget to mention she is broke? So when the opportunity to become a mail-order bride for a reclusive millionaire she runs. This book is perfect for making you swoon quickly right.

Nooo the D head sexes her brain out and then goes into his office to write for the next few days. SOOOO is that the only problem? NOOOO she also has a stalker because who doesn't love a hot yoga instructor who post herself all over social media.

River vows to protect Rose and their love is put to the ultimate test when her stalker gets a bit too dangerous.

I loved the book but the sex scenes kind of grossed me out lol so I took away a star. It was too hookerish for me that she got there and immediately had to have sex with him after they got married.

I received an ARC via Booksprout and I am leaving an honest review.

Happy reading everyone

Hmmm... What Just Happened?

Overall, I'd say that I liked this story. Sure, Ryder has a LOT to learn about how to treat a woman, especially the one who has taken his name. Signing him up for a Miss Manners class or some sensitivity training wouldn't be out of line but once Rose realizes what's afoot, she does a decent job of taking him to task.

Ryder's rude behaviors aside, I am troubled by the last chapter. The story went from zero to 200mph and back in the blink of an eye. Of course, I expected some drama beyond the trials of a new relationship but I didn't expect it all to start and end in a couple of quick pages.

Ignoring the last chapter, it was a good read with a cute and fitting epilogue. As usual for a Frankie Love novella, things also got steamy in the bedroom and beyond and there's plenty of chemistry to support it.

I don't know if this deserved a 1 star review, I haven't even finished the entire thing but... Ugh?

He acts like a rude, dismissive jerk and then gives himself a pass because he's not normally like that. She seems fine with it because he's an idiot but he's like, totally super hot and everything.

I'm finding this review to be quite difficult to write because there isn't much story here, no straight 'this is how all of this happened' and so what I want to point out as less than stellar is all over the place. So I think I'm just going to go with that.

She lives in LA, she's gorgeous so she is constantly sexually harassed. She's also a virgin, so her being oblivious to the fact that some men might be not so nice is excused because she's inexperienced, despite being harassed a lot... It's just baffling. She's oblivious, she's harassed, she knows things, she is trusting, then she gets it, but she's inexperienced and unaware and... you can't be the same and different at the same time.

He is also a possessive jerk the FIRST time they meet. Then he demands they get married RIGHT away or she's not "serious" about this. Then they go home. Then the fuck (all first night) then he 100% ignores her for a week, then is a complete and utter asshole to her. Seriously, he thinks she's hot and he therefor owns her? (He comes Screaming out of the house because she's doing yoga in front of a camera with his titties on display.)

~~~~Going to finish the book, probably skimming because this is awful~~~~
OMG he wrote a book for her in a week. She is his 'dream girl' and the book is saved as My Rose. A fucking week to write a book because he fucked her once after years of writers block. I just... I can't even.
~~~~

OMG a bearskin rug! (I know I say OMG a lot but... WTF else am I supposed to say?)

~~~~
They make up, they have sex, she is super excited and happy and shows him her dream, the videos she's been making for youtube. He immediately freaks out and bans her from doing it because "I don't want you being a sex icon on the internet!" What a fucking asshole.
~~~~

"Oh I'm so sorry, let me watch all your videos." So he spends some times, watches them and then knows right away that her creepy comments are coming from a stalker. I have to admit that is a pet peeve of mine, that Dude can look at her life and be so much smarter about it than she is, because she is obviously dismissing it. She dismisses it by saying that nobody else has ever been interested in her. DESPITE CLAIMING CONSTANT HARASSMENT! Seriously, sexual harassment might be gross and fucked up, but it is STILL interest!

~~~~
Seriously!?!? Two seconds after a fight about the stalker he shows up! I'm currently banging my head on my desk. I mean I would if I had a desk, but I don't, so I'm settling for rolling my eyes SO hard.
Honestly, I feel like kind of a dick because someone put a lot of time and effort into writing this. I just wish it was *better* because the idea is fantastic. It sadly just ends up feeling like someone wanted to write porn and then felt they had to have a story to tie it all together. I'm just left feeling disappointed by the whole thing.
River orders a wife to help him get out of his writers block. He needs some change to get his mind going again.
Rose is trying tomato a career for herself with her yoga videos. But she is about to be evicted from her apartment. Her neighbors daughter runs a mail order service. Why not give it a try.
First impressions of arriving in Alaska, river is cold and to the point. But Rose has high hopes and knows this is the right place for her. The only problem she might have a stalker from her videos. Can River save her?
A lovely hot steamy read of River and Rose. Two people who really need each other. They both come to learn how to compromise and learn from each other. The author did an excellent job with the story and characters. You can relate to either one and how they felt.
The mountain man’s muse is book one in the modern mail order bride series. This story is short, fast paced and a nice read. I read this book in one sitting and was satisfied throughout. The writing style for this story is easy to follow, the characters are likeable and the story is cute.
I liked this story. I liked Rose. She wanted a change. When her neighbour/friend tells her about an arranged marriage matchmaker, she decides to give it a go. River is a successful writer but he is lonely. Also suffering from writers block for two years has caused him some stress. Fed up of being lonely, he decides to take a chance with a mail order bride and hope for the best.
The chemistry between River and Rose was clear to see and I liked them as a couple. I was a little sad that River pushed Rose away and ignored her. I understood why he did. Rose gave River inspiration and helped him get over his writers block. I liked that Rose got on with what she wanted to do. She continued with her YouTube videos. I understood why River didn’t like Rose putting herself online but at the same time it irritated me. I did like that River was able to save and protect his woman.
The storyline for this book is easy to follow and a nice read. I cannot wait to read more books from this series.
2.5 stars rounded up
It wasn't a bad read but it lacked the conflict this story clearly needed, in my modest opinion. Plus, they just got together waaaay too quickly.
Plus, the heroine was kinda annoying, especially by the end.
But I did like the hero. And the writing style was good. So it's only fair if I round it up.
I am really curious of the next one in the series, though: The Mountain Man's Cure
It's no secret that I am in fact obessed with brooding, scarred, loner heroes.
So this sounds like my jam.
The Mountain Man's Muse is a mail-order bride tale that is swoon-worthy.
We meet famous recluse author River Ryder who orders a wife hoping she will cure his writers block, but when he meets his bride, he knows she is more than a quick fix-she is his muse. Down on her luck Rose a yoga instructor who needs a quiet place to record her yoga videos and a lakeside cabin in the middle of nowhere is better than her LA apartment.
So Cute! Love River Ryder. An arranged marriage with many obstacles to overcome! An escape from reality that is a fun filled saga with chemistry & lust, danger lurking in the background, & witty dialogue. Looking forward to reading the next mountain Man Mail Order Bride in this series.
I really love Frankie's books and the history of River and Rosa was no exception. At the beginning of the impression of the main character is contradictory, but then it is simply impossible not to fall in love with him. Rosa is a strong girl and can cope with difficulties. It will be a reliable support for Rivera. Despite the fact that, hardly knowing each other they were married, Rosa was able to become for Rivera inspiration and his muse. Although in the beginning there were moments that I did not like very much, he was able to understand and realize his mistakes.
Sex as always in the books of Frankie is very hot. A lot of growling alpha- writer and one sweet baby who can cope with difficulties and overcome any obstacles when the goal is love.
The Mountain Man's Muse by Frankie Love
River is living in the middle of nowhere in Alaska and is having a major writer's block. He was used to all the ideas coming to life in his words but its been over a year and still hasn't written anything until he meets his MUSE.
Ordering a mail order bride might bring him out of his funk or just gives him someone who will remind him to stop and enjoy life. Rose is living in LA and is tired of not having tranquility in her life especially living in a busy city. Yoga is her passion so when she gets a couple of catcalls on the street she knows that this isn't the place for her. Not sure what to do a neighbor gives her a couple of answers next thing she is off to Alaska to me her new husband to be. These two start off in a fight but slowly try to build their marriage. I really liked the story and Rose was sweet and still tried to make mail order marriage work.
The Mountain Man's Muse is a sweet, sexy, modern mail-order bride romance. River is a famous writer who chooses to live in solitude in Alaska. He loves it. He doesn't love losing his ideas. He hasn't written a word in years. He decides he wants a bride, someone sweet and loving who won't mind the isolation and maybe she will become his muse.
Rose wants out of L.A. and reluctantly agrees to become a mail-order bride and live in Alaska. With no family, she is happy to make a change and live in peaceful circumstances.
Rose and River are instantly attracted to each other and marry within minutes of Rose getting off the plane. Lots of chemistry, but they don't really know each other. River screws up their first week of marriage and Rose misunderstands. A little bit of conversation would go a long way to fixing their initial problems.
Good heat, but a rushed ending. This is a novella so it feels like the author doesn't dig as deep into the characters. I actually feel like I got to know River more than Rose. Fun read though. I would read more from the author.
Good story
Rose is living in noisy LA and hoping to become a yoga instructor. She’s becoming desperate because bills are due, student loans and the recent eviction notice on her door. Her neighbor sees the notice and invites her in and tells her of a quick fix to all her troubles, an arranged marriage.
River Ryder is a writer who made it big when his novel sold and a movie was made from the book. Not only once, but seems every time he writes, movies are made from his books and he’s become very wealthy. Eventually, River needs the solitude away from all the fame so he moves to Alaska. He buys his own little island and has a huge mansion built right beside mountains and a huge lake, paradise. Then, River gets writers block and no matter what he does, he’s lost his inspiration for writing. Then he decides its time to stop being lonely and get a wife and hopefully she can be his muse.
Perfect set up for two people who feel their lives are at a standstill, their lonely and need direction. Read this fun story and find out if it works for Rider and Rose.
Bending Over Backwards For The One You Just Met
When recluse writer River Ryder decides the key to ending his long stretch of writer's block is ending his loneliness with a mail-order bride, he never imagined he would get the women of his dreams- his muse, for life, if she will have him.
Rose, needs money, a few days away from having no place to call home, her aspirations as an online yoga instructor are not working out as she would like in the noisy city. Mail-order bride is her way out of her dire situation, and a fresh start.
If Rose can live with River, the grumbly, recluse writer.
Sweetness, versus gruff, and lonely frustrations, mixed with sassy innocence, this mountainous wild adventure shows the many sides to the breaded man tales- a combustible, heat-inducing one!
Another in the feel good, pass me fan stories by Frankie Love, her powers of quickie persuasion are working some fictional magic!
Love it!
I NEVER thought for a second I could love a mountain man but HOT DAMN I fell good and hard for River! Frankie Love is QUICKLY becoming one of my ONE-CLICK authors. Her books are ULTRA sexy, ULTRA ROMANTIC and they make me MELT and want to moan out loud.
The Mountain Man's Muse was INCREDIBLE. I didn't think I was going to love this book but I did. I read this in an amazingly short amount of time and the moment it ended, I wanted to read it again. I found this book to be romantic as hell with so much achingly delicious hotness I am surprised my device didn't burst into flames and melt in my hands. River and Rose were great characters. I liked them both a LOOOOOT and I enjoyed their chemistry. They seemed to just...zing together and it was both beautiful and sexy. Goodness, I can't wait to read more from Miss Love!
I loved everything about this book, it was intriguing and oh my River was a very swoon worthy alpha male.
Rose is living in LA and not managing to even keep her head above water. When she receives an eviction notice her sweet neighbor suggests she needs a man to take care of her and that her daughter is a matchmaker. Rose decides to go for it and becomes a mail order bride.
River is a wealthy author who lives in a secluded home in Alaska but knows he needs a wife so he gives instructions to his friend, the matchmaker.
Even upon seeing Rose for the first time, River's writer's block explodes. Rose is his muse.
Even with a little bit of a rocky start as well as a kidnapping scare these two manage to get their HEA.
Grab yourself a copy of this book and get ready for a sweet romantic read.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary ARC of this book.
Frankie takes us back to the mountains with this incredibly sweet, instalove story. River is sick of being alone and figures a wife will solve all his problems out in the wilds of Alaska. Rose is tired of city life not mention she can never seem to make ends meet. They both go to a matchmaker as a last ditch effort, and the rest is history. With an arranged marriage, instant chemistry and lust, not mention danger lurking around the corner, this book was a fast paced and great read! I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
Something is missing...
I realize this is a short-story length book, but it feels like half a novel. The first third has a decent pace, but then the story starts speeding up like an avalanche once Rose reaches Alaska, and the end feels like the author ran out of space so the outline got turned into sentences and left out details. If you’re going to have a bad guy stalk your heroine from LA to rural Alaska, you need to give him more motivation than “she was on the internet in gym clothes.” If this was rewritten to a full-length novel, it could be 4 or 5 stars - it has potential. As it is, it just left me wanting more, but not in a good way. I had planned to read this entire series (I found Book 3 first but decided to read them in order) but I’m not sure if I’ll read the other stories in the series or not.
Loved this book
Brilliant read River who his a writer but has had writers block for the last couple years orders a bride Rose turns up and an instant spark is between them but River leaves her alone for a week writing his book as Rose is his muse. Rose feels sad that Rover hasn’t slept on their bed since the first time so she concentrates on her yoga videos for her you tube channel but a stalker is on her trail Rose has just deleted his comments not reading the, but River does and reads them to her. River is aware that a stalker out there this stalker is brave as he actually takes Rose dragging her through the woods to his car.River needs to rescue her he loves her he stops the stalker and saves Rose who also declares her love for him this incident has given him more ideas for his book but even if Rose doesn’t see him in the day he has to come to bed with her.
I hated this book. I thought about quitting it several times which says something when a book is this short. There was nothing sexy about this book and the H was a complete a-hole. Serious, he was a jerk and there was not enough time redeeming his character. I had zero investment in their happily ever after and kept thinking she should hop a plane so when he finally leaves his office he’ll be all alone. He cared nothing about her and just used her for inspiration. Every time he called her muse it made me want to punch him in his dumb throat because it was just a reminder that he loved her for what he got out of her not because of who she was. They never got to know each other in the entire book so he couldn’t have loved her for who she was. Deep breath...on top of my hatred of the story it wasn’t written well and had major pacing and grammatical issues.
The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: ❤️❤️❤️
Heat/Steam:🌶🌶
Story/Plot: 📕📕
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: dual Narration
Listened to it on Everand/Scribed
The character's actions were highly questionable, and personally, if I were Rose, I would struggle to forgive even a fraction of his misdeeds. He treated her poorly throughout the story, and yet, Rose seemed to forgive him too quickly. Additionally, the use of the virgin trope felt overdone and at times, it was quite cringe-inducing, making me uncomfortable. The plot twist towards the end felt more like a forced attempt by the author to inject some intrigue and redeem his character. However, it wasn't enough to counterbalance his earlier behavior, which was consistently problematic.
I will be reading the next book in the series because I hope it gets better. I have read other books by the author and it’s usually not this bad.
Mostly great
What I liked - I liked all the characters, even the crazy stalker guy. I liked the story overall. It was very sweet and romantic and had a great ending.
What I didn't like - There were several editing issues. The dialogue was weird sometimes, like no one talks that way so it didn't feel natural. I don't like when a male character is all excited about a virgin love interest, or wife in this case, when he wasn't a virgin. It's a big double standard, to be able to have a sexual past and be thrilled his woman doesn't.
Overall - I f the story was a little more developed, had way fewer editing issues, a virgin man, and/or had more normal dialogue, I probably would have given it 5 stars.
This is the story of River, a successful writer who decides the way to break his writers block is to marry a stranger via a matchmaker agency, and Rose who chooses to be his bride as a means to escaping her debts, and of getting on with her life.
It is an OK read. The problem is there is no depth of characterisation, and little attempt to make either of the leads more than cliche and caricature.
The writing style was easy to read, but there are errors that editing should have weeded out. The interjection of a little adventure was lack-lustre and felt a bit bolted on, and overall I felt that this had the bones of a good story that never quite materialised.
It is also very short and I can't help feeling that a longer book, with greater depth would have lifted this from the bland.
Falls flat
This one really fell flat compared to some of Frankie’s others. The heroine wasn’t realistic in her dealings with her new husband. How she just brushed off being ignored for a week was completely unbelievable. And now he didn’t try to get to know her at all was frustrating and left the reader feeling like the heroine was a push over and likely no self esteem. She was also stupidly naive. Sex scenes were flat. And there were so many errors! If this book was proof read by a “professional” they need to find a new line of work. I don’t think the author even proof read her work! The only thing rough about this book were the mistakes and certainly not the sex!
