From USA Today Best Selling Author Raymond L. Weil comes the first book in the Originator Wars series.
The Lost Fleets have settled on an Originator Dyson Sphere in preparation for their greatest test yet. A great enemy is spreading across the universe conquering galaxy after galaxy.
The few surviving Originators have asked Fleet Admiral Jeremy Strong to fight a war against their most hated enemy, the Anti-Life. If he fails to stop their advance, then the entire universe could be in danger.
Rear Admiral Kathryn Barnes sets out on a desperate quest. She must find the missing Originators who fled into deep space millions of years in the past to escape a deadly disease. If they are to have any hope of winning this intergalactic war, the missing Originators must be found.
I live in Clinton Oklahoma with my wife of 40 years and our cat. I attended college at SWOSU in Weatherford Oklahoma, majoring in Math with minors in Creative Writing and History.
My hobbies include watching soccer, reading, camping, and of course writing. I coached youth soccer for twelve years before moving on and becoming a high school soccer coach for thirteen more. I also enjoy playing with my five grandchildren. I have a very vivid imagination, which sometimes worries my friends. They never know what I am going to say or what I am going to do.
I am an avid reader and have a science fiction / fantasy collection of over two thousand paperbacks. The space program has always fascinated me and I've followed it since its inception. When I was a teenager, I wanted to be an astronaut. Now, I just write about it.
I finally got back to one of my favorite authors and one of his best series. This series has kind of splintered off into about three different story lines if I can remember them correctly. We had the original story of the Slaver Wars which started everything. We learned about the “Special Five” which was a bunch of kids from the original book who decided to go into cryo-sleep and wake up just before the humans began a war with the Hocklyns, an alien race bent on conquering and enslaving the galaxy. These kids sleep for about 300 to 500 years, I can’t remember exactly and so did a group of other humans who understood that a war was coming and Earth would need all the experience it could get.
So, that war took place with Jeremy Strong, the son of one of the original astronauts that found the first alien ship on the moon, now promoted to Admiral and put in charge of his own fleet. Don’t even think about him not having a lick of experience. He went to sleep as a Lieutenant and some how came out of that with a huge promotion. The other “Special Four” didn’t appear so “Special” since none of them were promoted any where near as far and as fast as Jeremy. Oh, he does alright since this is only a story, otherwise, it would have been a sad day for the humans if he was actually in charge of anything. Still, when the humans won the Hocklyn war and then defeated the AIs who were the actual evil of the Milky Way galaxy, Jeremy and a number of ships were blasted into another galaxy. Thus became the “Lost Fleet” with Jeremy Strong in charge of everything in the new galaxy.
So now we have two stories about humans and their allies in the Triangulum Galaxy and the Milky Way. Both are fighting desperate enemies and both seem to be winning. The AIs are coming back in the Milky Way and while the original bad guys, the Simulins, in the Triangulum Galaxy have largely been defeated, the new enemy is the Anti-lifers. These people are the original “Originators” who have determined that they and only they should rule everything. So, of course, Jeremy and his band have started a war with the Anti-lifers and we’re off on another adventure.
The story is pretty good although some of the stuff dealing with Admiral Strong and his group are just to perfect to be believable. For example, they need to find an Originator ship that will help them gain new technology and better prepare them for the next war. Well, surprise, that happens fairly quickly. They just happened to be in the right galaxy at the right time to come across the Dominator, a huge and powerful battle ship ran by a very old AI. Of course, they had to make peace with this AI and figure out that he wasn’t all that mean if treated correctly. So, the humans got the technological boost they needed right in time.
Back in the Milky, they Earth humans found a Dyson sphere similar to those in the Triangulum Galaxy and it appeared to be somewhat friendly. Little did they know that it had the capability to link into the Triangulum Galaxy and while none of Jeremy’s people came home permanently, they did secretly come back and convince a large part of one particular group to go back to the Triangulum Galaxy with them. They also left significant Originator technology which they felt the humans in the Milky Way would need. They put it to good use.
These stories are very interesting and it’s nice to see the humans standing up and kicking butt once in a while. The cover for these books have changed so I wasn’t sure if it was loading on my iPads like it should until I discovered that change. It’s kind of a minor annoyance since I like to see various series all grouped together with common front covers. Doesn’t distract from the story although the author does tend to repeat himself in numerous paragraphs which is distracting. I’ll be looking for more books in this series and other books by Raymond L. Weil.
Another great Military Science Fiction story from Raymond Weil. Impossible technology from the Originators means that humanity can fight the Eternals on an vene footing but there are stil secrets the Originators have not told us.
A great start to another off shoot series in the Lost Fleet series
Fleet Admiral Strong may have poked a ant hill by taking a fleet looking for the anti-life group of originators. The battles that occurs, means that trouble will not be long before it comes calling. There is a lot going of in this book, but I will look forward to the next book.
Before you start this book, please note while this is touted as the first book of a new series it is really a new chapter of a continuing thread – you will need to have started at the beginning and read them all the way through or this one won’t make much sense to you: I would start with Moon Wreck: First Contact (Moon Wreck series Book 1) and read them all the way through.
This installment continues where the previous book ended, with a little bit of the usual action scenes but more of setting the foundation for this new thread. As is usual with other books in the series, the author has a writing style that makes you have a hard time putting it down and I stayed up really late one night to finish it. I’m ready for the next installment of the series.
I picked this up for $3.99 and I certainly received more than $3.99 worth of entertainment value out of this one. If you enjoyed the other books of the series I imagine you will like this one, also.
Very disappointed in this story. The anti life originators spent two million years fighting each other yet their level of weaponry was still no better than that of the originators and their ai's. That's very hard to believe and therein lies my problem with this book it's simply not staying true to its original theme and now grayseth miraculously the annihilation of his dreadnaught in his attempt to save admiral strong. Let heroes die as heroes and make way for other strong characters to be unveiled. I could go on criticizing this book but really what's the point since it being turned into a shitty soap opera.
If you thought you were skimming the surface of this novel, alas you have actually reached the bottom. The hundreds of characters are a bit juvenile and the technology is straight out of Star Trek, but there is plenty of intergalactic action. There are also tons of grammatical and spelling errors, but I guess no one cares anymore.
You might say Admiral Strong is growing in power with spheres of influence, 211 Dyson Spheres to be exact!
A Very busy book, lots of subplots and mysteries running along side of each other keep the action moving. As any good leader does, Jeremy shows as a strong leader by creating a plan for organizing the Originators AIs and his command into smooth running fighting units and delegating tasks out to different people under his command. The Originators are developing a keen sense of respect for Jeremy and have delegated alot of authority to Jeremy for fighting their old nemesis, the anti-life.
Overall a good read, the down side it is often REPETITIVE dialogue from previous chapters. The tremendous loss of life and resources throughout this entire series is incredulous that anyone would continue this struggle.
After glancing at book 2, and reviews of book 3, I’ve decided to drop this series. It seems the war is to continue into a new series.
My only regret is that I don’t know if any of the “special five” finally get knocked off.....if one thing grated on my nerves, it was the damm special five.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I find this book a very interesting read. The special 5 continues to serve humanity in fighting a determined enemy with new allies. The technology introduced adds a lot to the story. Mr Weil has taken the effort to develop the characters. This style of story appeals to me with its combination of military action and well developed plots for the characters.
Weil just keeps delivering in this series. Fleet Admiral Jeremy Strong and the rest of the Special Five continue in a seamless series of universe-spanning adventures. Can't recommend this series highly enough. Start at the beginning with "Moon Wreck" and follow the adventures of Jeremy Strong and the rest of the Special Five across time and space.
Another awesome book in this series. Did anyone notice the Anti-Life Originators are eerily similar to the Simulins... Another twist in the saga, a rescue of an honored comrade and a new adventure in that faraway galaxy. Keep the adventures alive and hot off the press. Thanks for the GoodRead.
Gave up after the first few chapters. Maybe I wasn't in the right mood, maybe it was the volatile voice of the narrator (I had the audio book). I just felt that there was too much pre-existing history the story hinged on from the start, to the point that I was sure there was a prequel I clearly hadn't read.
I really enjoyed the series, it is one of the best series I've ever read. Cannot wait for the next Book. Fast-paced, full of action, interesting characters and technology. I suggest that you start reading the series from the very first book they are all enjoyable.
This is my first book by the author. I'm truly happy and enthralled when reading it. You are involved in several story lines at the same time yet they are all part of one story. The book is loaded with excitement and compassion and holds your interest through out leaving you wanting more.
What a great story. I was just spellbound by the story that keeps me in the mood for more. The story is believable with great characters that are so important to the reader I look forward to reading about other Originator and Wars and hope to meet the characters of old with new ones that will entertain us as readers.
I've been following this series for more than a year and the books always keep me engaged and waiting to see what is going to happen next. Great plot development. Has enough twists and turns to keep you interested.
As with the others, a decent story marred by passages lifted verbatim from the other books and use -verbatim- repeatedly within the story, poor copy editing, and skipping over important plot points mars what could be a solid 4 star series.
I was please to see another series release Raymond. It had been a few years since I read the original series. Enjoyed this first book and I look forward to the next.
Grabs your attention and keeps it all the way through. I enjoy reading the books from Raymond Weil, I can loose myself in the story and enjoy it. Characters are well thought out and seem real.
