Hey dude, I know this is a l'il bit crazy, but to study general similarity transform matrices M, let's first check out some totally restricted examples where M has gotta be unitary. Weird, right? But I'll bet once you see Schur's Lemma you'll see why this was so rad. [not an actual quote]Lots of contemporary texts try to pull this off, and it's just too Mr.-Rogers-y for my taste.
