Friendship on Fire by Joss Wood is the first story in her Love in Boston series. It’s about a group of family and friends and the relationships that develop as they become adults. In this one, two best friends lose their way and become estranged, only to get the chance to rekindle their friendship and more.

Jules Brogan is a successful interior designer, working with her twin sister Darby and best friend Dylan-Jane. They grew up in the Lockwood Country Club Estate with the Lockwood brothers, who became almost like adopted sons to the Brogan parents. Noah Lockwood and Jules were best friends since children, but numerous circumstances resulted in Noah leaving Boston to advance his sailing career.

Ten years later, Noah has returned home to try to salvage some of his heritage from his stepfather who is squandering the Lockwood money and property. He never told Jules why he left and severed their friendship, and now he needs her help to provide the interior design of a yacht he is building for a demanding customer. And he might have also told his customer that Jules was his fiancee. Without the yacht sale, he won’t be able to get the money together with his brothers to head off the dismantling of his childhood home. The attraction that had been budding between them when he left still exists and is stronger than ever. Can Jules and Noah right the wrongs done in the past and find a new future together?

The only things liked about this story were the children & the hot & steamy scenes. This story wasn't hot enough for me.

Fool her once, as her best friend. Fool her twice…as her fake fiancé? Being named as Top Boston (interior designer) Jules Brogan has no shortage of work. So why say yes to designing a yacht with Noah Lockwood—her former best friend who disappeared from her life ten years ago after one smoldering encounter? He left because he was offered sponsorship 3 times higher if he became a fake fiancé. He needed the money because his stepdad Ethan was trying to take the families’ entire inheritance and he had to pay for lawyers and his brothers’ educations. Unfortunately, he couldn’t tell anyone or have contact with his family in Boston. Especially since the job requires posing as Noah’s fiancé! But what are old friends for…especially if she can coax him into one more kiss?

there are a lot of secondary characters to learn, but the misunderstanding between the main characters is on a continuous loop on almost every page, hence the 2 stars, not enough substance

I liked Jules and Noah, but I found the interludes with Callie and Mason annoying. The second romance story did not have enough room to reach any depth, and it took focus away from the main romance. The villains were cartoonish in their villainy. This is not necessarily a detractor (I often don't mind that in my romances), but I thought I'd note it.

Side tangent:
Additionally, I did not like how Noah talked about Morgan's illness. It is one thing to criticize someone for using their mental illness to manipulate others and treating others poorly. It is even understandable to say that someone else's illness is overwhelming and unhealthy for you. However, he thinks this:

He'd been thinking about calling it off when Morgan had her first proper meltdown, staying in bed for two weeks, not eating or drinking or, God, bathing.

I may have been supposed to take something else from this, but to me it felt that Noah wanted to leave the relationship out of digust at her lack of cleanliness (was the "God" before "bathing" really necessary?) or ability to care for herself when she was sick. That is kind of offensive to someone who has also been so depressed I could not keep up my personal hygiene. It is not the suffering person's fault or a personal failing - they are just really, really sick.

Now, he later goes on to think that he did not break up with her for fear of her condition worsening, and she and her father used this to entrap him. To be clear, that manipulation is massively terrible thing to do. I am very much on Noah's side. Just this sentence hit wrong and made me upset.

Side tangent over.

Basically, it was a decent enough romance with some issues. I wish there had been more time spent on Jules and Noah and their emotional connection. I didn't really care about their sex (but others may have a different experience), and I wished that Jules had more to her character than just her hurt over Noah's abandonment. The way it was written left me feeling like Jules was defined by Noah and not a full character in her own right.

Tempers flare as passion ignites! With the first book in the Love In Boston series, we get the groundwork for the families it's going to center around. It was a slow start with a lot of characters being thrown our way up front, as well as a little unorthodox change of who's perspective we are looking at now and then, but once you get the gist of the story down pat, it picks up. There's definitely a good foundation for future drama being laid here! An enjoyable kick off, looking forward to more of the series!

Jules Brogan is at the top of her game as an interior designer, so when her former best friend wants to contract her for a job, she's not a bit interested! He walked away from her life ten years ago without a backward glance ... and now he thinks he can come waltzing back in like nothing ever happened? No way!

Noah Lockwood left Boston and never planned to return, but when his family history is in danger, he can't just sit back and watching things fall apart. He has to convince Jules to help him ... and not only does she have to agree to do the job, but she also has to agree to be his significant other while doing it!

Second Chance Romance.
Young, beautiful, rich and successful but even the rich have cash flow and relationship problems! And boy does Noah have relationship problems! Thought Jules was very forgiving, after she was hurt so badly and Noah rather obtuse about the damage he caused but I did enjoy their love story and there were some beautifully romantic lines. I loved the fact that the widowed mother is having her romance in the background.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I think this is one of my favorite series by this author that I’ve read so far. It only has two books right now, but I think I like the sense of family in them. Oh... so in the blurb on the back of the book and about the book it claims Jules and Noah are fake engaged... in the book they are just in a fake boyfriend/ girlfriend relationship. Thought that was a little odd but minor detail.

This is a book that relies heavily on you accepting that these two can't communicate, and being ok with some questionable priorities. What let's that slide are the side characters, who in such a short book all have distinctive personalities that I can't wait to see find love in future books. And also the chemistry! Jules and Noah's chemistry is off the charts.
