I read this for my abnormal psych class. It isn't a novel, each chapter is an individual case of a differing disorder.

This book offers a look at clinical cases in abnormal psychology covering the most common disorders that one would generally come by in a therapy setting. Things like bipolar disorder, personality disorders, anxiety, and schizophrenia. I liked the layout of how the text flowed. I am very partial to case studies and find them highly entertaining. In each case study, there would be sidebars with either update information of recent studies about the case or facts and figures about the disorder being represented. Although I knew some of the information, I did learn new things. The book also had you decide three cases (which in the appendix the answers are explained). To toot my own horn, I was right three for three. I did think that those three case studies were a little bit too easy but this is most likely a book for a psych major to get a feel for how specific cases might play out so they have to be as single orientated to ensure that the student picks up on the key features of the case.

So in short, the text is a nice flow that although laying out a clinical report of a case is entertaining (at least to me) and for that and the interesting aspect on how each case is treated in a therapeutic sense leaves a good rating from me.

I had to read this book for my Abnormal Psychology class. This was a required text for the class but it was also supplemental to the regular text book. Having to read this book along with the assigned readings from the textbook made the class much easier and having case studies to refer to for the mental abnormalities we learned about in class helped the information stick in ky mind better.
