Wyatt Earp, the most famed and notorious of the lawmen, joined forces and stood gun by gun with Doc Holliday, the most feared gambler and badman in the west.
A novelization of the 1957 Burt Lancaster film, the novel makes no pretentions about being historically accurate. It traces the unlikely friendship between the straight-laced Wyatt Earp and the violent Doc Holliday, culminating with the famous shoot-out. Despite using real history and people as a template, the novel is definitely a work of fiction, both in its portrayal of events and the personalities of the main characters.
But taken at that level, its a strong story, with Nelson Nye's wry prose and vivid descriptive abilities bringing the tale to life.
