Nice surprise

This was really quite a good read. I haven't read this author's work before and didn't know what to expect, but the blurb drew me in and I was hooked in the first chapter. She has nice prose that's not too lyrical and I enjoyed the style of her writing. The story was compelling and believable, the characters likable and realistic.
*slight spoilers*
My only complaint - and it's minor - is that I felt like Free let Christopher off the hook too quickly. I couldn't have forgiven him so easily after the way he'd behaved years before, not to mention the cruel, cheap shots he took at her following their tense reunion. He really was a complete a*****e at first and I didn't like him. (He was perfect actually, because I love seeing how a writer evolves such an arrogant jerk of a character.) I definitely couldn't have been so understanding after the bomb that was dropped at the festival. He'd been back for MONTHS and didn't say a word. I needed more grovelling from him and a little more remorse and vulnerability. I thought Free was an awesome character, someone I would totally hang with, and Christopher should have been thanking his lucky stars she forgave his sorry behind.

This is a very slow burn, with a single, fade to black sex scene well beyond the halfway point. Very nice. My imagination works much better without having sexy times spelled out in explicit detail. So if you're looking for hot and heavy steam action, or for a mention of how hot they are for one another every third paragraph, or relentless UST, this book isn't for you. It's a solid, realistic read with a good plot and relatable characters.
I would definitely recommend it and will be looking for more work by the author. 4 stars.

I enjoyed this story so much--all the relationships are complicated, not just the main romantic one. Each character is a mix of comfort and challenge to the heroine, Free, which makes them feel like real people in real relationships. I enjoy the world Wynter has created and want to eat at the restaurant and have ice cream at the Fosters. There are personal things the characters are dealing with--grief, family legacy, betrayal, trauma of high school--but also societal pressures that ring very true to this time--gentrification, the struggles of small business owners. I can't wait to read Iris's story!

G.G. Wynter is my new favorite author. I had an opportunity to read an early version of "Free Falling" when it was a short story. At the request of several people, Ms. Wynter turned her short story into a stunning debut. I am so glad she did!

"Free Falling" finaled in the prestigious Georgia Romance Writers' Unpublished Maggie Award for Excellence, and it also finaled in the competitive 2017 Kayak Author Award, which honors diversity. And I can totally see why: not only is the writing fresh, but the chemistry between the hero and heroine jump off the pages! The author truly captures what it's like to be a young, 24-year-old idealist trying to find her own way in the often murky, definitely frustrating, harsh world of business.

Free Spaulding is smart and driven. After drowning in the corporate world, she returns to Pointe Hill to revitalize her late father's Jamaican restaurant. Christopher Bellamy is a rich real estate developer determined to succeed at all costs. And what's at stake are the businesses of Pointe Hill; particularly Free's family restaurant. When these former lovers now enemies face off, sparks ignite, words fly, and I am left fanning myself silly!

I simply couldn't put the book down. I had to find out what drove them apart, how Christopher and Free compromised between promoting progress and respecting tradition when it comes to business revitalization, and if they ended up together.

Wow. Just wow.

I love a smart and sassy romance with a fresh voice. If you do, too, then I highly recommend you read "Free Falling."

Whew...😌

This novel had me gritting my teeth start to finish. A cautionary tale pointing out the folly of lies, schemes, vanity, greed and the efforts to keep such appalling behavior secret. All the major players played a roll in this misery..Free, Iris, Christopher, Jason, Frees' parents, Jessica & of course the A-hole Cyrus. And the constant running away from or refusing to face down the personal demons is exhausting. It takes too long for these folks to man/woman up & get their s@#t together. Were not for this I would have rated five stars.
Now I know we hvn't heard the last of these people, but by do hope that when Cyrus & Jessica strike again Free, Christopher and others are not so easily manipulated..stay true to the people they hv become and fight with all they have.
Well written, slower paced than most, no over the top salacious sex scenes, good character development but no POV from Christopher.
Very good story I originally borrowed but will now purchase. 👍

G. G. Wynter had me from page one. Free Spalding has never let go of "the one who got away." And when Christopher returns to town and has the power to make or break Free's family's beloved restaurant, Free has no choice but to work things out with him. In the process, she finds out secrets she never expected that explain the way things happened years ago, things that kept the two apart, now the question is can she forgive and move on with the love of her dreams? Along with this compelling love story, Wynter gives us a touching story of the strength of a tested mother and daughter relationship and an enduring friendship story between Free and her cousin Iris, played out against the backdrop of the vividly painted town of Pointe Hill. This was a perfect read to warm a cold winter day!

G.G. Wynter's Free Falling had me falling in love right along with "Free," the story's main character. Wynter vividly describes the small town atmosphere, it's hive of gossip and the trials of running a family-owned restaurant against seemingly insurmountable odds, while juggling the regret of lost love and hopes for the future. Well worth your precious reading time.

Great read!

I enjoyed this book although it took me longer to get engaged. It’s a good love story with characters who portrayed secrets, evils, committing, friendships and loyalty. I think it’s a good read for people stuck in the past and understanding everything is not as it appears.

Happily ever after

It took a lot of trials and tribulations for Christopher and Free to get there. There were times when I thought Free was too trusting and being played. So much proof that the truth will set you free.

Loved this! I probably average reading a book a week, and don't normally do write-ups, but this one was clever and connected. Blew through it in one day. Great characters with lots of heat in a really tight, intriguing, well-developed story. Can’t wait for the next Pointe Hill!
