Private eye by day. Alpha by nature.

All her life, Kensi has dreamed of being an alpha werewolf. The trouble is, she can’t shift. And she’s tried everything: meditation, mind-expanding drugs, even squeezing real hard. Despite her lack of success, she’s not giving up. Her plan B? Offering her talents as a private eye to the Wild Pack. If she can locate their missing werewolf, they're bound to support her claim to lead.

Dominant, stubborn and searing hot Drake is assigned to be her guide, and he’s just too damn good at his job. His hard chest bumps into her as he stalks her every move, while his mercury eyes watch her all the time, tearing down her defenses bit by bit. Maybe she got it wrong and being an alpha isn't the only thing she wants.

But when the missing girl turns up dead, Drake’s story unravels. Putting her ambitions on the line, Kensi sets out to prove whether the man she loves is as innocent as she hopes—or as guilty as she fears.

A thrilling action romance, MOON PROMISE is bound to captivate fans of shifter novels and the paranormal.

Story: 4.5 stars

Narration : 4.5 stars

Overall: 4.5 stars.

Paranormal Romance, as many of you will know, is one of my favourite genres. Moon Promise was not what I was expecting. The romance aspect was level with the mystery that Kezi visited the Wild Pack to investigate. One of their wolves was missing and Kenzi was there as an official investigator. Kenzi was also there on a more private mission. To learn about her mother who was killed when she was young. In order to eventually succeed her father to the throne, Princess Kenzi has to keep her secrets while searching for answers.

I did have my suspicions about the outcome of the investigation pretty early on, but there was a lot that I didn’t work out until all became clear. There was one aspect I definitely did not see coming and it was a cleverly conceived aspect.

The writing was fast paced, with great flow. Carmen Fox’s take on Werewolf lore and hierarchy mixed both traditional understandings and a fresh new take.

Phoenix McKay did a fantastic job with the narration. Her character voices were clearly different and even had drastically different accents. Her voice acting skills were fantastic. She has a great talent for evoking the intensity that suited each moment.

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to Moon Promise.

Kensi is a princess and future alpha with a deep secret. She works as a private investigator by day so when another wolf pack asks for her help locating a missing wolf, she hesitantly accepts. Drake is assigned to be her guide through the unfamiliar community – meaning he sticks to her side every waking moment. Spending that much time with him leads to feelings that she wasn’t prepared for & the more time she spends with Drake, the more worried Kensi becomes that he may learn her secret – that she is a dud. The perk of taking the case, though, is that the location is very close to a plethora of knowledge that will help her uncover the secret of her mother’s lineage and possibly answer the question of why she hasn’t shifted yet – and the answer to that question surprises her the most.

I had never read a book by author Carmen Fox before this one but I do love a good shifter romance book. I was very intrigued how this one would compare to other favorites I have in the paranormal/shifter romance genre – and I was not disappointed. The author manages to capture the intense chemistry between the two beautifully and I really appreciated how she brought together two very dominant individuals who are constantly butting heads. The book was a decent length and is told from Kensi’s POV; the mystery builds nicely until the conclusion and resolution. The mystery was not predictable either – I think I personally was shocked at the conclusion, having suspected one person the whole book and finding out it was another. There were a couple moments where the story dragged a bit and then later felt a tad bit rushed but the story was still easily followed and enjoyed. Overall I was a fan of this book and can’t wait to see what else I can find from the author. I would recommend it to any of my shifter romance fan friends.

**4 Stars - I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader copy of this book.

"He was an onion, with layers as yet unexplored. An enigma.
And hell, how I loved myself a good mystery."

Werewolf Princess Kensington lives far away from her life in the German court, instead in America and working as a high profile PI for missing people. She has a secret that has kept her away from her pack, one only her father knows- she is a werewolf that can't shift. How can she be next inline for the Alpha if she can't access her gift? After being forced by her father into working for an Alpha in a small town, she decides it is the perfect opportunity to kill two birds with one stone- find a missing girl and learn more about her mother's mysterious pack who originated from this area. If only she wasn't saddled with one of the Alpha's Protectors, Drake, as her babysitter. But nothing is ever easy for Kensi.

You had me at Werewolf PI...Um, yes please! A book about werewolves (one of my top favorite supernatural things) and add in a mystery and suspense of a missing girl and a female PI? Yep, it was a given I was going to read this book once I discovered it existed. I thought this was such a fast read, easy to get lost in the plot, characters, alpha power struggles, all of it! The writing was smooth and straight forward, making this the perfect read for me. I found myself sucked into this book and the origins of the werewolf was a really cool concept I have never heard before, making this an entirely new read for me. And yes, on top of the mysteries that Kensi is trying to solve, we have some romance and steamy encounters (but not too steamy, just the way I like it!) added for flavor. I really feel like this story had a little bit of everything going on in it, something for all kinds of readers, wrapped in a convenient package that I enjoyed.

The ending made me hope it is the start of a series and you can count me in to read more set in this world. There were so many side characters I would like to learn about or even just more from Kensi and the future (like visiting court!!) that I would love if there was more. But that being said, this wrapped everything up nicely with no loose ends that I am really happy with the plot as a standalone too. This was my first book by Carmen but now that I discovered her, I would like to check out all her other worlds.

The Story: 4 stars
Princess Kensington is a werewolf, the daughter to the King/Alpha and a Private Investigator with a HUGE secret. She is unable to shift! That in itself was enough to intrigue me to read/listen to this story! Kensi isn't sure why she can't shift but in order to one day become Alpha she really needs to make the change. She takes a PI case for a wolf pack and it turns out it is in the prime spot for her to do some investigation of her own - looking into her mother's lineage. Kensi has a feeling the reason she cant change is due in part to her mothers side. The case see her get close to a wolf named Drake and the chemistry was there from the start for them, but when the investigation points the blame to Drake Kensie has to do everything she can to prove his innocence and find the true culprit at the same time. It was a good story and it moved at a great pace having me hooked. This is first book by Carmen Fox I have read and I loved her style, world building and characters. Wont be my last book of her's that's for sure.

The Narration: 3 stars
I have to be honest I did not take to Phoenix McKay in the beginning, she showed not emotion or much in the way of differentiation between characters. It felt like she was just reading the story. As it went on there was semblance of emotion etc coming through but not much and unfortunately this did impact on my enjoyment of the story. The audio was flawless though and there was no background noise, some slight static at the new chapter announcements a few time but apart from that it was smooth.

Moon Promise is about a daughter of a werewolf king, unfortunately she is unable to shift. So Kensington now lives in Chicago and is a renowned P.I. When her father calls and asked her to go and help The Wild Pack find a young woman who has disappeared.
Kensington arrives and to keep her secret, she has to withstand the Alpha power when the men keep trying to influence her to their way of thinking.
This is an interesting tale as we see how Kenzie uses her skill to find Raven, while dealing with werewolf politics. Kenzie finds herself attracted to Drake one of the pack protectors.
This book has it all, mystery, murder, love and jealousy which caused all the trouble in the first place. I loved Drake and Kenzie together, it was the first time she could be herself. This is a great start to a new series which has all the right qualities Love, Jealousy, and all the ingredients for plenty of actions mentioned. I now have to start on Book Two when released.

I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by Carmen Fox. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.

Audiobook Review

I hate writing negative reviews but I have to address the narration by Phoenix McKay. In the beginning, it sounds like the narrator is simply reading the story. There is not much influx between the various character voices either. However, as the story progressed, McKay did seem to get a feel for the story and the characters and began to deliver it with more emotion. If the narration had been better, I would have enjoyed the story much more. With that said, author Carmen Fox's Moon Promise embodies mystery, suspense, and romance in this story of self discovery. The MC, Kensi, is searching for her inner wolf as well as a missing werewolf from the Wild Pack. She has traveled to Colorado to lend her PI services to the Alpha and to learn about her mother's pack. The story was nicely done but unfortunately, the narration took away from that.

‘Male werewolves had a tendency to get overly “helpful” around women.’

British author Carmen Fox has published eight novels to date – stories she labels as being about ‘smart women with sassitude and guys with an edge.’ MOON PROMISE, her latest work, falls into the paranormal genre of werewolves and shifters.

One of the several aspects that keeps Carmen’s book entertaining is the manner in which she mixes a keen sense of humor with otherwise dire situations. ‘All things considered, I was in no particular hurry to meet the Wild Pack’s alpha. Not by accident had it been a long time since I’d come face to face with other werewolves. Six years ago, the power plays within my father’s Boroughs Pack had sent me fleeing to Chicago, Illinois, home of The Bean, the Sears Tower and the jibarito sandwich. Would Marlontown wolves be different, or was I headed into more of the same drama?’ Casal, matter of fact conversations and thoughts make the shapeshifter theme alive.

The direction of story follows - ‘All her life, Kensi has dreamed of being an alpha werewolf. The trouble is, she can’t shift. And she’s tried everything: meditation, mind-expanding drugs, even squeezing real hard. Her plan B? Offering her talents as a private eye to the Wild Pack. If she can locate their missing werewolf, they’re bound to support her claim to lead. Dominant, stubborn and searing hot Drake is assigned to be her guide, and he’s just too damn good at his job. His hard chest bumps into her as he stalks her every move, while his mercury eyes watch her all the time, tearing down her defenses bit by bit. Maybe she got it wrong and being an alpha isn’t the only thing she wants. But when the missing girl turns up dead, Drake’s story unravels. Putting her ambitions on the line, Kensi sets out to prove whether the man she loves is as innocent as she hopes—or as guilty as she fears..’

Werewolves, shifting, crime and a lot of erotica make his a successful novel for the Chick Lit fans – one of the largest book buying contingencies on the Internet. Carmen Fox is obviously talented and can keep her readers entertained at all parts of the spectrum!

I’m always on the lookout for new books to read, even if – at times – they may not be quite my cup of tea. I was definitely intrigued when I read the premise for Moon Promise and thought about giving it a chance.
The book is entertaining, and the author does a very good with the flow of the book. There is a sense of development, both with the characters and with the story, which is good. That makes the characters interesting and pluridimensional. There’s nothing worse than characters who fall flat and are the same from beginning to the end. This shifter and paranormal genre allow a lot of creative freedom, but the author did good in not getting carried away and sticking to just some elements. There’s crime, there’s lust, there’s ambition and there are lots of funny little details in the dialogues that help this book come to life.

Moon Promise (The Wild Pack Book 1) by Carmen Fox is the epitome of the paranormal genre with on emphasis on werewolves. The writing flows well as the author introduces us to Kensi, a vibrant young woman who wants more than anything to be an alpha werewolf. Try as she might, she just can't accomplish this goal. Capturing the essence of this young woman is the dialogue which is at once basic and casual, yet managing to move the story along and get the point across. There's a good mix here with a little erotic element, crime, shifting, and of course werewolves. The author has truly covered all the bases to write an engaging, yet fun and entertaining novel. Not to be missed, this story is highly recommended. Carmen Fox is an author to watch.

A supernatural mystery thriller

Kensi is a great private investigator who also desires to be the alpha male of the wolf pack. As she begins to investigate a murder, she is forced to consider the possibility the guy she desires may be the killer she seeks. The story is fast paced with twists along the way. Characters are developed and entertaining while the journey is intriguing and easy to follow. If you like supernatural werewol and romance this is a good read for you. I also recommend this one for anyone looking for a new genre to try out. Check this one out you will not be disappointed.

On the way to the Wild Pack, Princess Kensington (“Kensi”), royal daughter of the Boroughs Pack Alpha King, was involved in a vehicle accident where an abandoned truck had been left in the middle of the mountainous road and the car that hit hers drove her into the truck. Drake, the Wild Pack’s protector, arrived in an old pickup truck to drive Kensi to the meeting with their Alpha Jonah. Although Kensi von Berg had always dreamed of being an alpha werewolf, she is unable to shift and needs to keep that secret. She figures that by offering her private investigator talents to the Wild Pack to find Raven, a missing werewolf, they may in turn support her claim to leadership when the time came, especially since they were the largest pack in the U.S.

Jonah assigned dominant, stubborn, irritating, sexy Drake as her guide on the hunt for the missing werewolf. When she tried to decline, he asserted his Alpha dominance, increasingly uncomfortable aches and tingles down her arms; and she wished yet again that she could assert her own back – but she didn’t have that ability. His final display of dominance, sent out as she walked away without his official dismissal, almost made her stumble. So she had to accept Drake as her Protector. As they walked outside, Drake asserted a quick shot of alpha dominance, causing her already raw skin to burn, as if to say he would be calling the shots now. He obviously did not know Kensi at all to think that would be possible!

But when they find the werewolf female dead, and evidence is found, everyone’s suspicions turn to Drake, the guy she has been falling for! Is she in danger? Can she find proof of his involvement – or maybe find the REAL killer? Was the “evidence” they found at Drake’s place more than likely planted?

Fast-paced and intriguing, grab your copy and see if Kensi can use her P.I. skillset to find justice, or whether she is at the mercy of a killer?

Kensi is a private investigator and a good one. There are two things you should know about her though. Number one? She's a werewolf. Number two? She's royalty. And I guess it's important to know that she can't shift and she has to hide it from everyone in the werewolf community. This secret means keeping everyone at a distance and never allowing anyone in.

Drake is a protector, a werewolf strong enough to be alpha. He is loyal and kind and having a stranger come in to solve a mystery he couldn't...well, it's emasculating. Add in that he and his co-protector, Leo, don't actually get along and there's bound to be tension.

Fox does a wonderful job of setting up clues, and foreshadowing. She doesn't give us much into the possible suspects so as readers, the murderer isn't obvious from the start, which is rare in a lot of paranormal fiction.

The biggest issue I had with this book is the romance. Oftentimes it seems forced and written by someone who felt like they didn't really want it at all. And while the investigation into the missing werewolf was interesting, I could have done without the stereotypical paranormal romance where the girl has to choose her future or a man. It's been done and the choice is always the same. I think that this book would have warranted a better rating if the author had chosen to go in a different direction or if, at the very least, the relationships felt more authentic.

I’m so happy that i’d started the new year with such a great book, i enjoyed every word of it
I liked this book because it was about werewolves (my favorit supernatural thing),mystery and crime ,with some romance too ,and OMG I loved it.

Keinsington is a werewolf princess who lives with a deep secret that kept her far from her pack in Germany, she works as a private investigator, and when Jonah, an alpha from another wolf pack, asked her to find Raven the missing girl , she accepted and decided that it is the great opportunity for her to look after her Mom’s pack’s origins. Drake(Jonah’s protector) is assigned to be her guide, and it happen to be an awfully handsome sexy man.., taught for Keinsi who is not insensitive to his charms.

I really liked the way that I found my self sucked into the book from the first chapter (and believe me it doesn’t happen) , mostly because of the really smooth and pleasant writing which flows well as the author introduces us to Kensi, who wants more than anything to be an alpha werewolf.
Through the reading we get into Keinsi’s shoes and try to solve the case with her, in the same time fall for Drake with his dominance, personality and wolf aura.
I also enjoyed the little funny details in the dialogues that make this book come to life.

I would absolutely recommend this book to any werewolves, shifting, crime lover

Why Drake? Leo at least talks, why not him?

Love this book. What is it like to be a werewolf that can't shift? How about an alpha that can't show their dominance? If you want to know then this is the book to read. Kensi is the daughter of an alpha and a private detective. She is hired to find a missing werewolf. When she gets to the town the werewolf went missing she is reminded why she doesn't like being around other werewolves.

She is assigned a werewolf to protect her while she investigates, which she is not thrilled about. Granted she likes having the eye candy to look at and if she wasn't so independent she might really enjoy any one of their members. She gets paired up with the only one she didn't want to be paired with.

This is a must read for all the antics and to find out if the assignment is every solved.

Great story and mystery. Kensi is the only child of the alpha and king of her pack. But for some reason she has never been able to shift nor exhibit dominance over another shifter as she should be able to as the future alpha of her pack. Then she goes to Colorado to help another pack locate a missing woman. She is also on another mission. Her mother was originally from this area, and she wants to find out about the missing “travelers”. She hopes to also find out why she can’t shift. She has a real connection to Drake, one of the protectors to alpha of the pack she is helping, but he tries many times to dominate her and she can’t ever tell him her secret. As a P.I Kensi was after answers but not only for her investigation if not for her future as an alpha. Struggling with her self-doubts, her feelings for the alpha protector and her duty Kensi had to face the reality of her destiny and don’t be afraid of embracing it. An intriguing and very interesting story that kept my attention to the details of the plot development. Predictable? At all. Kensi’s character was compelling with good and clear insight and witty and amusing comments. Liked the mystery, the suspense and how the author kept me reading between lines connecting dots. I’ll keep a close eye on this author. Received the book from Hidden Gems.

So, it appears the theme of my weekend is werewolf royalty; from king to queen and now to princess. I know I read the blurb, but I still didn’t know what I was about to get myself into with this book. There’s a lot of story in here. A lot. And it’s all complex and detailed and intricate. There was no skimming allowed if I wanted to keep track of all the threads that Kensi’s following. I almost think my favorite part of the book was watching Kensi and Drake try to fight their attraction. Their resistance was futile, but so completely adorable. I can’t wait to read more about this pack.

Kensi high aspirations . . . can be achieved

Overall 4 out of 5 stars
Performance 4 out of 5 stars
Story 4 out of 5 stars

I got more than I was expecting when I started this one. I was expecting a PNR that gave as good as it got, but then there was a slight twist on things. Kensi finds she has high aspiration for one in her predicament. She will need help reaching the shelf she wants. In come Drake. Things are not as they appear and things continue to become a bit of a challenge for Kensi. Narration was clean, clear, and flowing.

This book is so different from most shifter/paranormal stories, as it also includes an honest Nancy Drew investigation type heroine. For Kensi, being an alpha is all she's ever dreamed of so when she's paired with Drake to solve the Wild Pack's missing person's case, all bets are of, since Kensi is trying to hide that she is unable to shift while trying to show that she is able to lead.

This story is something else. It is awesome. Kensi is a PI and she loves a mystery. The case is a good one. Some twists and turns. And Kensi had a secret. It made her a little harder than most. All she had endured as a child. But the best is the ending the biggest mystery of all. I received a complimentary review copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving a honest review.

Promise of Love

I can't explain how I knew but I knew who the killer was and I just read for the ride to see how it would all unfold. Other than that it was a great story with a very independent and strong woman in Kensi. The author does a good job of providing a back story and keeping you engaged in the mystery. The love hate thing between the two characters will keep you entertained.
