I am not especially a "cat person", but I found this story fascinating, and well told. It is an enthralling account of Tomkies' endeavor to raise, breed, and reintroduce wildcats into the Scottish wilderness where he lives. He is an author who knows well how to keep to the point--though his life outside the cats seems as if it must be quite interesting, he keeps to the cats and tells one story at a time. His deep interest in animal behavior and his commitment to his environment is remarkable.
I love this book. Great storytelling and I missed the Wildcats when he finally releases them into the wild. I discovered this by accident looking for something completely different and I'm glad I did.
Mike Tomkies lived alone in the Scottish Highlands apart from a few animals. This is his account of rearing Scottish wildcat kittens, wildcats being an elusive but endangered species.
