I have always loved a good mystery. From my early years watching Murder She Wrote to more recent shows like Monk, Psych, and my absolute favorite BBC show ever, Sherlock, I have studied what it takes to make an entertaining mystery. I am truly blessed to be able to write and share my own mysteries with you. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I loved writing them :)
Ok, I only read the first 4 books in the box set. I did enjoy the mysteries so I was torn between a 3 or a 4 rating. But I went with 3 because the heroine of the series was so annoying I had no desire to finish reading the other books. In the first book she says she is 44 and attracted to a young policeman in his mid 20's. No reason given other than she likes younger men who can keep up with her. The policeman she is attracted to seems to have a very bland personality, but overall seems like a nice person. We are not given much information on his background, likes, or dislikes. His character has not been developed enough to form an attachment to him. My gut reaction even after 4 books is that it is unattractive seeing a mid 40's man with a mid 20's woman. It looks no better when it is an older woman with a younger man unless there is true passion and charisma between the characters. There is not in this series. In a later book the heroine's age turns to 41 and the policeman love interest becomes late 20's. Still no charisma in the relationship. Other reasons I simply do not like the heroine is, she has been married and divorced 3 times. Three? Maybe there is a good reason for this but the author has failed to provide any except as regards her first marriage, where she bailed on her husband when he was questioned in a murder. He was not arrested or convicted and the murderer was never found. The thing is the heroine says she does not believe her first husband killed anyone. Yet she walked out on him. Hmmmm. Going on, the heroine frequently lies to people. Not little white lies, but lies that a good person would not say. They are not horrible lies, but the fact she lies makes me dislike her. Going on again, the heroine has 2 dogs. One she is with constantly and one she leaves home alone all the time. Just because the littler dog is smaller and has trouble keeping up. I guess she does not like men or dogs who cannot keep up with her. The heroine also lacks tact or finesse in questioning her suspects. And like other reviewers have pointed out, why hire Brenda to work in her craft store when Brenda is so rude to the heroine? But honestly, the heroine is just as rude to Brenda, which does not make her much of a heroine to me. What this series needs for me to become invested is better character development and more likeable characters.
This is a very enjoyable light mystery series featuring a young woman who owns a craft shop and keeps getting embroiled in murder mysteries. I really like the character of George, and her relationships with her friends and colleagues. This box set is a great way to read the entire series in one book, and follow the development of the characters from beginning to end. The plots are all clever and keep the reader involved, and are great fun. I have received and read all the individual books in this series as ARCs and I have previously posted honest reviews of the individual books.
Actually I bought two sets, don't know how or why, but I'm glad I did. I must've bought the first set, before she finished the series(books 1-6, second set was the whole series books 1-9...which I recommend)! I really enjoyed the characters, "George" can be a little flighty at times, but when it comes to murder...she seems to always figure it out. Although a little too close for comfort sometimes. I love her two canines, especially the Border Collie Basket (maybe because we have one...and he definitely has his own "human" personality too). Then there is the cute cop...possible boyfriend, Ryan, Brenda...who's a crafter specialist, or so she says, and one of her ex-husbands shows up too...Adam. I thought each book, made our main character more endearing. The only thing I think these cozy mysteries needed that was lacking, was instructions on how to make a few crafts at the end of each book,. After all, it is supposed to be a "Craft Circle". There is mentioning of different crafts throughout, but it sure would be neat to instruct us on how to! Just a thought!
I was a little dubious going into this series, but despite the main character reminding us every chapter or so how old she was, and dwelling rather unhealthily in my opinion on how much younger Ryan was - these books did draw me in.
My favourite character was Jasper - sorry but true.
Whilst I respect other people's reviews, I don't agree that there was anything wrong with these books vis a vis content knowledge of crafting etc., However in the final book in the boxed set, there does appear to be a rather strange typo - Adam's fiancé goes from being called Felicity to Fiona and the dog goes from Fiona to Felicity but hey it didn't spoil my fun reading them though.
So, sit back and enjoy a set of simple but enjoyable stories and let it take you away to a much simpler place.
This could have been a decent box set. Continuity problems make it less enjoyable.
In the first story, Georgiana is 43. Second story, 44, third story, 41. When the author is unable to remember how old the characters are, there is a problem. The stories are listed in the box set as being in proper order, so the changes of age is rather, in your face.
Second, she's got two dogs, yet we see/hear almost nothing about the smaller rescue dog. It's like it was a one and done, like me, cries the MC.
I don't have time for silly mistakes that should have been fixed by a once over, looking just for those types of things. If it was published traditionaly, the editor should have caught it. So should the author have, to be honest.
Couldn't get past the first few chapters of book one. The main character just met the "victim" once, shows up at her house and without going inside decides the cops are wrong, and she didn't fall down the stairs, she was murdered. Even though the ONE time they met both were guzzling wine... Plus main character just moved to town, opened a craft store without any crafting experience, and has three customers, who don't buy anything. Maybe later something is said to make sense of this, but it was too far fetched for me.
I finished this series because I hoped the marine's character would be developed . We know nothing about her other than she's been married multiple times and has moved to transient life and has curly blond hair . She is not likable , lacks good judgment , apparently is a very good artist , why does she run a craft store ? She wears angles that she has made but we are never witnessed her doing any crafts . There's no consistency throughout these books. Storyline could be very good if it were developed better . Very disappointing .
George has been a bit of a free spirit married five times never in one place for to long. Then she made her way to a small town that seems just right, finds a house and à business and settled down. Then the nice quiet town wasn't so quiet anymore. Mysteries abound, romance, and humour inbetween them, good read.
The stories are great and I really enjoyed them. My only problem has been the editing of the books. I hate having to figure out the correct wording while I am reading. Also, I believe that Adam married Felicity and Fiona was her dog. This was switched in the last books. Hope this gets better as the stories are entertaining.
I found these stories very enjoyable. If you are a dog lover, all the better. George can get in more trouble, but is able to wiggle out of it in the end. I love cozy mysteries and highly recommend Craft Circle Cozey Mystery Box Set: Books 1-9.
My review is based solely on my own preferences for reading. I enjoyed them and if you like reading lighthearted mysteries then you will enjoy theses as much as me.
These books were a really good read. I loved the characters and her love for her dogs. The last book tells us that we all have a better future ahead of us if we only dream and think smart. I would recommend these books to anyone.
Wow, what a find. Nine books to love about George who owns a Craft Store. She’s very involved in Pottsville. Of course mysteries happen. Couldn’t stop reading.
I have read each one of these stories. The characters are great, the story lines are wonderful. Each one is different in it's own way. Very good, clean cozy mysteries.
Georgina or George to all her friends is a sassy and fun woman who has a knack for solving murders. I enjoyed going along for the ride on her many adventures.
