As a graduate student this work was required class reading and am glad the instructor assigned it. Any student, or aficionado, of early American history will find this work a great addendum to their library. It is well written, well researched, and provides a critical key to understanding to the emergence and legacy of future American and Native American leaders and how their experiences provided for a colorful background in the unique American experience during the decades following America's war for independence.

I am a lover of history, and this is a good historical review of the South west. It's old, but you will still get a lot of value out of the read.
