FIONE Affection and acceptance were what I needed most from the dogs and horses out at my boarding facility, The Bark'n'Neigh. But when Deputy Reese Tenenbaum showed up one morn, with so much soul in his blue eyes it awakened a yearning I thought had left me years ago, the insecurities that had kept me single started melting away. Trusting him? Yeah, it could've been my greatest accomplishment or my worst...
REESE I hadn't seen or spoken to Fione Whiteapple for four years. Even now, she still drew on all the iron in my blood like the positive charge to my negative. The shimmering compassion behind those steely eyes, the brightness that shone outward from beneath her skin was almost enough to make my nickname--The Munford Man-Whore--irrelevant. Almost. But if we had a chance at forever, we had to be friends before I took her to bed...
Together. Together, we find out what is on the other side of trust.
The movie Airplane! and watching SNL from fourth grade into the early 2000's, helped shape Courtney Lea's wacky sense of humor--hence why she crushed on Steve Martin prior to her "tween" years. DON'T ask her about Luke Perry or Jean-Claude Van Dame unless she has a cocktail in-hand...those "celebrity" crushes were traumatizing (for both obvious, yet unique, reasons).Using her freelance writing experience, after volunteering to judge prestigious writing contests, and becoming addicted to Texas A&M's Writer's Academy, Courtney finally bit the bullet and pressed that blasted "publish" button on Amazon. She lives in northern Arizona, currently runs her own dog/cat boarding business, and has a rescue named Brodick (who smacks on command!) FB: @lovebycourtneylea
The Other Side of Trust is the second book in the Other Side series. It was my second read by Courtney Lea. I’m really liking the author’s books! This novel is sweet, emotional, beautiful, romantic and a little suspenseful.
Fione is caring, kind, independent, loving, passionate and reliable. She loves animals and she loves taking care of them. Fione owns a facility where she takes cares of several animals and that facility is her life. She works hard at it, but she doesn’t mind it at all. Fione focuses on the animals and not on finding love. She’s attracted to Reese, but she doesn’t think that he likes her.
Reese is strong, hardworking, honest, caring and smart. He’s a cop. He lives and breathes his job. He works crazy hours, but he doesn’t mind. Reese was a player once, but that’s no longer true. Fione also changes his priorities and he likes spending time with her. He has always felt something for her, but he has been keeping his distant. When Fione gets some weird messages, Reese will do anything to protect her.
I adored the setting. Both the small town and Fione’s facility. There are living some amazing people at that town and the friendships are amazing. The facility is a beautiful project and Fione loves it. I definitely wouldn’t have minded it if the animals or even the work there were mentioned more.
I also adored Fione and Reese together. They act like they can’t stand each other, but there has always been some attraction between them. They take their time getting to know each other, but they love what they learn and love being together. Fione and Reese are a beautiful, sweet and solid couple.

*I received this book in exchange for an honest review from NABC.*
This book is about Fione (Fee) and Reese, Fione runs a boarding kennel and Reese works for the Sheriff's office.
Fione is a sweet and trusting woman who adores animals and loves the fact that they don't care about the way she looks or the fact that she is a size 12. That is what she finds most comforting about working with animals and that is also the reason she hasn't had a relationship for 3 years, she doesn't like the human expectations to look like a super model. Then comes along Reese and throws a kink into all of her issues.
Reese is a deputy for the Clarkson County Sheriff's office, he is consider the "Munford Man-Whore". He can't deny his past and he feels he can't escape his nickname, but he's changed and the only person he has let close enough to see that is his father.. until Fee comes into his life and he is reminded of how much she throws him off kilter and makes him want things that he's never even considered before which sends him into a panic.
I love how open and raw the emotions are between the two of them. The love you can see they both feel but don't know how or are too afraid to delve into it. They are sweet and steamy all rolled into one.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and could not put it down. It was the perfect blend of sweetness, romance, steamy love, and even suspense. Yes, you read that right. There is a twist that will set you on edge and make you just as scared as the characters are wondering what the heck is going on!
I loved the southern slang, it was captured perfectly! Being from the south we don't use the "g" in most of our words (like sayin' somethin') and that was throughout the book in all the dialog and it fit perfectly!
I would definitely recommend this book if you like suspense and romance all rolled into one!
“All I did know, was eternity didn’t seem long enough stretch of time, not with her”
A feel-good, light-hearted, and all around fun and sexy read for those of you who are a fan of romance! The Other Side of Trust is a compelling story about two people who are trying to see past their flaws and imperfections. This kind of romance is the perfect kind to go home to.
Fione Whiteapple owned a boarding facility exclusively for dogs and horses. She worked tooth and nail to build her business, and it was all worth it. Nevertheless, she was way past lonely when it comes to relationship.
She met deputy Reese Tennenbaum four years ago on her 21st birthday. 5 minutes was all it took for Reese to fall for Fione without her ever knowing. Now, he showed up with the full intention of keeping her safe. But he got a history, and in Munford, everybody knows his history. But before she could make up her mind about him, she had to take the risk of being his friend.
I enjoy this story a lot! It has all the premises I never knew I liked before? It doesn’t rely too heavily on the characters but also has its equal balance in the plotline leading up to the climax. I like the writing style, not too edgy or subjectively driven. it was actually pretty subtle, and so the deliverance of what the character feels and what their thoughts are enjoyable to read.
overall, I give this book a full on 5 stars!
Massive thank you to New Adult Book Club on Goodreads for this book in exchange for an honest review!
I was lucky enough to get a copy of this book for an honest review. While it took me a little time to get into this, it was a refreshing change to read. The setting was great, whilst I got used to the lingo (the author had given a heads up at the start of the book) thankfully. It was great to see how this love story unfolded.
Fione runs a boarding facility and leads a pretty closed off life. She doesn't date much, but that's because an ex-boyfriend helped to feed her insecurities about her weight. So she buries herself in work.
Reese is known for his way with women, having a new one each night, the entire town has a nickname for him. But Reese is more than that nickname and when he sees Fione again after 4 years, he decides he's waited long enough. But convincing her she's as beautiful as he sees her isn't going to be easy as her scars run deep.
While an insecure heroine isn't my favorite trope, I enjoyed watching Reese helping Fione to blossom. Watching their relationship evolve from best friends to more was sweet, and I think we all want that in our relationships. Reese is deep, and he loves deeply. He helps Fione to do the same. Their relationship, while it has its trials, works well because they work at it. As Lea writes "Relationships were a different realm, required a fluid currency between give and take." They have some seriously hot and swoony moments.
All of the characters were rich and deep, and I seriously am ready for Lea to write Zeke's story as I believe we have a lot in common. I loved the fact that while I jumped into the series in book 2, it wasn't a big problem, as this can be read as a standalone. Though I do want to go back and read book 1.
After reading the The Other Side of Anger I was very excited to read more from Courtney Lea. For me this is a solid three star book, the plot is not overly complicated and it did not immediately grab me but I definitely felt the need to see it through. That being said, this is a sweet love story that has a bit of mystery and suspense. One of the things that I loved about the first book was how passionate Bryant and Orion were about what they do and that theme definitely carries over in the telling of Fione and Reese’s story. Fione is the proud owner of The Bark ’n’ Neigh where she specializes in T-Touch and the ultimate care for the animals she boards. Reese is an officer of the law whose main goal is to serve and protect all in his jurisdiction not just those deemed important by his superior. Not without their flaws, though Fione is very insecure and Reese is trying to live down a terrible reputation that comes with an unflattering nickname. That feels a little spoilery but it doesn’t reveal any specific plot points and my point is that this is a story about two hardworking and relatable individuals. The secondary characters in this story are especially likable if a little prickly at times. I am very much looking forward to more in this series.
I loved this fun story and it was a breeze to read. It had all the components of a great romance novel and I never felt bored or disconnected from the characters. I would gladly read Courtney's next book in the series.
