Dr. Tommy John's unique a diet, lifestyle, and movement plan (Rethink. Rebuild. Replenish. Recover) for injury- and performance-proofing young athletes in every sport
Beginning as early as age 6 and continuing through the teenage years and on into their twenties, both male and female athletes are more at risk of serious injuries at younger ages than ever before. Dr. Tommy John, son of lefty pitcher Tommy John and also a sports performance and healing specialist, offers an invaluable diet, lifestyle, and movement plan (Rethink. Rebuild. Replenish. Recover) for injury- and performance-proofing young athletes in every sport. Dr. John explores the sudden rise of Tommy John surgeries being performed on young athletes today, as well as the many injuries--and the surgeries required to fix them--increasing at an alarming rate in baseball and all youth sports. Dr. John's book outlines the three top causes behind this "injury epidemic": The American lifestyle, the business of youth sports (from coaches to corporations), and the decisions we believe as parents are truly benefiting our children. Minimize Injury, Maximize Performance focuses on prevention, and also offers tips on how to tailor the advice for athletes coming back from an injury, with over 120 black and white photographs.
For anyone that actually is in the realm of youth athlete training, this book is complete garbage. Dr. Tommy John's "Tommy John Solution" is utter nonsense and is more likely to injure a youth athlete than it is to help them. It is obvious why this book is not endorsed anywhere within it by a genuine, certified strength and conditioning coach with any background in sports science.
Please, any parents reading it, don't follow this methodology. The "workouts" that are laid out within the book are not backed by any real science. Don't buy into it just because this man is a doctor and is the son of a professional athlete. It's not going to help your kids.
Hate to see stuff like this published, as it pushes back the fitness field and gives actual training a bad name. Go somewhere else for advice because this just isn't it.
This is thought-provoking. My daughter just broke her leg from soccer in April so this is making us rethink things altogether. Its all about money - the more you spend you can really overload these kids and there is really no one but the parent being their advocate. Thank you for writing this book and helping parents weed through the sports and all their extras.
While the information is extremely useful for not just parents with sporty kids, but any human, it falls short in no PDF to go along with the audiobook. This really isn't a book you can just listen to. It's hardly applicable without the routine diagrams and such. Do not get this on audio, but the paperback.
