Kill Me a Husband

Rate this book
It galled luscious, golden-haired Alma Chrysler to be tied to a husband as stodgy and unexciting as Norman. She didn't think a man should spend his evenings tinkering with a car. Variety was the spice of love, Almla believed, and proved her theory with Scotty, Jim, Bob, and others she could hardly remember. Now it was Ward Green and he was the best of the lot -- a slave to her passion for her -- but could she maneuver him into going along with her plan for the permanent removal of her husband? Only time and her exquisitely formed body would decide whether she could manipulated Ward's hunger for her, giving and then withholding, sating and then starving, until he was ready to obey her slightest command...

Paperback Sleaze

"Kill Me A Husband" is the tawdry story of Alma Chrysler, a modern-day Eve who took more than one bite from the apple. She's the type of no-good tramp that Orrie Hitt would write about. She didn't just rip up her marriage vows, but put them through the woodchipper too. And, she wishes she could've thrown her husband in that chipper too. And, by George, she's going to use her charms and her assets to get some poor sucker to do the dirty deed. The writing is smooth and it's one of those quick reading pulps, but don't expect too much complexity of character. At points, the characters, particularly Alma, are so overdrawn, it’s farcical.

Femme fatale and latent sociopath Alma convinces her meek and alcoholic lover Ward to help kill her husband, but their plan is clumsy and the book turns into a courtroom drama. Bordering on sleaze, the story is mainly interesting for the portrayal of Ward as he falls hard for Alma’s blatant sexuality, and his descent into obsession and alcoholism. The story oddly takes place in the 1920s although it was written in 1960. The writing reminded me of Orrie Hitt’s work - 8th grade reading level and noirish, and although this is darker and grimier, it should appeal to Hitt admirers.

The Book took me to years when James Hadley Chase were the only fictions I read ;) !!!

They had a Woman, A Lover , A Cruel Husband, A Motive, Detective and NO GPS , NO Mobile Records, NO Hi-Fi Forensics, .

All these were enough to Churn out a good Pulp Fiction !!!

This Book has a A Woman unsatisfied with her husband, involved in many affairs outside her marriage, who, finally creates a plot to get her husband killed.

Out of all the men she has been enticing , she chooses a weakling to do the job. They pull the job, but it turns out clumsy.

It's like usual book , that happened lots during the pulp fiction years. The book is a quick read reminding you of all the early fiction writers and movie makers like Hitchcock.

Three and a Half star Actually !!!

PS. The copy I read had many Typos with poor proofreading, but it does not take away joy of reading a good book !!!

A true noir,
affairs
murder
lies and deceit.
And many cringe moments for me of an adult man saying to the object of his sexual desire "mommy please."
Very worthy of current reprinting/reading.
