Fück Yöu: Rock and Roll Portraits
For more than 30 years, legendary music photographer Neil Zlozower has shot a who's-who of rock and metal titans. When the session demands, Neil has been known to yell, "Give me some fucking attitude!" The go-to gesture in the next photo frame is nearly always the rocker giving Neil the finger. Fck Yu assembles a veritable R 'n' R hall of fame of musicians flipping the birda playful parade of obscenity and a celebration of pure rock attitude. Here and telling the world to fuck off are Slash, Eddie Van Halen, Judas Priest, Slipknot, Ratt, Motley Crue, Aerosmith, Ozzy Osbourne, Korn, Bon Jovi, Slayer, Anthrax, and many more, sharing the love with each flying finger.

Not technically a good "read" since there's virtually no text in this book (though you can read both the endflaps and a semi-literate introduction from Zloz), but worth a flip through for anyone who loves metal (e.g. me). Speaking of flipping, every single photo finds at least one of its subjects flipping the bird at the camera.
Premise-wise a bit precious, to be sure, but worth it particularly because even with photo shoots that are very familiar at this point (e.g. Shout at the Devil era Motley Crue covered in blood, Ratt in a public restroom), because of the um, provocative gestures, these are usually pics you haven't seen in print before. The downside is that, likely trying to appeal to the widest audience possible, you get a lot of bottomfeeders that Zlozower has photographed over the years (one of the Pussycat Dolls, an American Idol top ten finisher) as well as a heavy dose of horrible 90s nu-metal (Slipknot, POD, Avenged Sevenfold, etc.). Also disproportionately well represented are people you have to guess Neil is simply friends with (the drummer from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Billy Sheehan photographed long after his career had gone south).
Anyway though, as someone with a (at this point) quite large collection of metal-related ephemera, this book was a worthy addition. Finding it remaindered for $5 certainly didn't hurt either.

This small book does exactly as the title
suggests being a compilation of photos taken by
Neil Zlozower of rock bands and performers
giving him the finger! It's mainly metal acts
from Aerosmith to all the members of Guns and
Roses classic period except AXL to skid row to
Joan Jett and on to the pussycat dolls!!
Though of course no book of this type could
possibly not feature Scott Ian of Anthrax and
several other bands in this book. As well as
Scientology's finest Finger giver mr Chick
Corea!!
It takes about 30 minutes to flick through this
book and it put a smile on my face for much of
that 30 minutes it took me, both Jet and I read
it on the day we bought it discounted in the
Berlin Photography museum. A fun find to leave
lying around for your friends to flick through
or to look at when you feel the need to vent!!

I am so lucky to find this book in Booksale. The cover is really eye catching, showing a rock star with a bright pink guitar. This is a book showing photos of some hair metal/rock bands like Van Halen, Poison, Motley Crue etc. giving the photographer the dirty finger. I really enjoyed browsing through the photos because I am a fan of the this music genre. No photos of Axl Rose though... I wonder why? XD
