Ahhh!!! Eric Hobbs why do you do this to me?!

These are the best stories. I LOVE how familiar characters are included and how every day consequences are played out. The very idea that what we do in the "real" world could change the lands in our stories, is scary. And vice versa. If some of our favorite childhood stories were erased....what would that do to the world???

I DO NOT WANT TO WAIT FOR THE NEXT BOOK!!!!!!!! Gimme Gimme Gimme!!!!!!

The Librarian
Randy, Douglas, and Taylor have joined up with Hook and some of his pirates. So, they are stuck there until the story corrects itself. The Librian says if it’s any consolation, he doesn’t think Douglas would hurt Taylor. He just took her along in all the chaos. Wesley gets upset because of the urgency to save her, but the Librian says they just have to be patient. Wesley gets an idea when the Librian says they can’t just click their heels and go home. They then find Dorothy’s friends who are reluctant but Wes guilts them into it. The Librian notices the change in Wes and it scares him.

Meanwhile, D Douglas, leads his party to find an army of 52 to help the Queen defeat the beast the Jabberwocky. While there’s a distraction, Taylor takes advantage of this, knocks Smee down, and takes off and makes a run for it into the woods. Taylor discovers the voices she heard are coming from a family of mice having a picnic. Doughlas and Hook burst into the clearing, but only find the -so they think-hidden nice. Douglas snatches up one of the mice-that turns out to be the son- and threatens his life if Taylor doesn’t come out0despite Randy pleading with him to stop. Taylor does. Taylor tells Douglas she sees where Randy gets where he threatening others smaller than him from-which rattles Douglas.

Wes is told by the Librian that Douglas is after “The Book of Real” or as he likes to call it “The Manuscript”. It lets the holder control events in the real world. He says this will be his job as his apprentice to watch over the book. He’s getting older and can’t be the Librarian forever. He just realizes that Randy was his apprentice when there’s an earthquake. There’s an a avalanche but they’re all able to make it safety. The Librian uses his staff to shield them from the falling debris all around them by creating a dome around them.

Taylor tells Randy and Hope how her life has been changed because of the library. Randy says she’s not the only one. His father use to be the Librarians assistant but when he went to the storybook lands when he got back it was as if he never existed and the Elders refused to change things back. Taylor says it doesn’t excuse what he’s done. Hope reminds her that she just said she’d do anything to get her family back. Well, Douglas feels the same way and that’s what he’s trying to d (get his old life back). But Randy wonders what kind of things he’ll do to change things back. Hope says he’ll have to ask Doughlas.

Douglas, Randy, Taylor, Hook, and Smee make it to the Queen’s Castle. The Cards won’t let them in so D Douglas wants to draw his gun but Randy tells him to find another way. But it’s about to go down. Hook draws his sword. The Painters ready their weapons, but the group convinces the painters they’ll take all responsibility if she’s mad. The Librarian teaches Wes how to use his own magic by getting him to think of what inspires him-being an author-and in doing this the stones start to move. The Librian tells him they need to hurry. The story is resetting itself.

When they get to Dorothy’s grave the straw that once marked it isn’t there. The adjacent hill starts to come back to life Then they spot Dorothy’s grave. They do find Dorothy’s body and the Librian tries to use CPR to bring her back, but to no avail. There’s a surge of power from the staff that shoots through Wes and all of a sudden Dorothy is brought back to life. Taylor, Douglas Randy, Hook, and smee are then headed to the Queen whose about to have a trial. The Hatter is sentenced for helping Alice. When he and the Hare are taken away, Taylor protests, but the Queen then accuses her of looking like Alice (and says if she says she thinks her nane is Alice is Alice). The tone of her voice makes Taylor shrink back and the trial continues. Douglas tells her they’re not there to be sentenced. He’s there because he’s the King of Historia and he’s there to save her kingdom.

On their journey (at this point not sure where0, Dorthey asks about Wes’s feelings for Tay and he admits he has a crush on her but doesn’t think he’s her kind of guy. Dorthy suggests he a Hesk but he knows he won’t. Dorothy’s shoes open the portal and Wes and the Librian say their goodbyes. While playing a game of croquet, Douglas makes a deal with the Queen. In exchange for her assistance getting the Manuscript he’ll give her weapons to defeat the Jabberwock. She turns him down and says her Card army is too busy there to join him, The Queen says she’s more concerned about Alice than her people’s protection from the monster. The queen and Hook are shocked to find out the books are named after their nemesis and in them their made to look like villains. When they find out Taylor is a fan of Alice, she orders her head be taken off. Then they take her away.

Randy pleads with his dad to stop them; He sees the card men take her to the chopping block. Randy starts to fight off the soldiers Douglas sends Bones to get Randy and take out anyone who gets in his way. Randy and Taylor have taken off running tho, They hide out inside a treat while the soldeiers close in, Taylor lets out a gasp and the soldiers hear and jab their spears into the tree causing them some cuts. They then start to cut down the tree. But then the Jabberwock comes and takes out the soldiers. But it’s not the Jabberwock. It’s Bones.

Randy is snatched up by Bones and Taylor comes after him attempting to fight Bones. Bones is about to bring his weapon down on Taylor but Randy diverts the blow. Randy pelts him with rocks until it eventually takes off his head. When his weapon is extinguished, they find his head and throw it in the water. One of the Card Man ends up getting shot by Doughlas when he defends the Queen after Douglas lets it be known he won’t stand for anything happening to his son. Smee is delighted that they’ll get similar weapons against Pan. When they get back, the library is falling apart, there’s no one outside, and there’s a haze in the sky. The Librian says they should focus on what they can control-finding Taylor-. Then they’ll find Douglas.

Hook goes to the Queen and tells her they should be free to live out there days in the real world where Standford lives so they woun’t have to be prisoners of the story. They both see the alternative. They should be the ones to get the book for themselves. Randy and Taylor are in the dark woods and come across a cottage. They let themselves in and it appears to be deserted. On the table they find a piece of cake that says “Eat
Randy and Taylor refuse to come with Douglas. Randy surprises him by knowing that he wants the book for revenge on the library. The house is all of a sudden torched and the kids eat the cat. Taylor and Randy don’t grow tho they shrink. Douglas tries to grab them but they run into the kitchen and hide. The whold house goes up and Douglas leaves them and makes a run for it. Thanks to Father Mouse and the Knights, the kids are led to safety through an exit in the back of a cabnet. The King tells Douglas it was the Jokers who started the fire. Taylor and Randy come across the Caterpillar and he guides them to the Great Wall where they’ll find mudrooms. Only one side will make them shrink further and the other will return them to their normal size.

Wes finds Taylor mentioned in a book that never existed in the Wonderland series “The Queen’s Revenge”. Then he sees a picture of her and Randy and wonders if they are together again but dismisses the thought. The Librian says they’re going to need a staff. Now back to their normal size after finding and eating the mushrooms, Randy and Taylor see Wes step of of the shadows. As they debate between taking Taylor back or going to the Queen’s castle to save Doug, Card Soldiers appear It’s the Jokers. They attack by tossing their hates, but the Librian is able to block them with his staff. When it looks like he can do no more they find a cave and retreat to it. But there’s a rock slide and they find themselves caved in. (Also randy and Taylor turn themselves over to the Jokers to distract them).

Wes and the Librian come across the sleeping jabberwock and all his treasure. Wes tries to magic up a bubble to fly them out of there but it pops. The Librian tho is able to conjure them a magic carpet that lies them out of the cave. The Queen and Hook and Douglas have a confrontation in where Hook and the Queen want an amulet in exchange for the children. Hope sacrifices herself and ends up dying frin a soear wound to help Douglas escape. Douglas makes his escape by leaping from the balcony. Douglas comes face to face with the Librian after this and is about to shoot him, but instead collapses as he catches him when told he didn’t deserve this just as he said Hope didn’t.

Randy and Taye are thrown into a cell with the Hatter, Harem and Duchess and are set to be executed. Doulgas, Wes, and the Librian come up with a plan to get the jabberwock to follow them to the castle and distract the residents so they can free Taye and Randy. Wes’s staff saves Taylor when it grabs the executioners ax. The Jabberwock is then let lose and it clears the crowd. Only we find out from Wes they have to hurry because it’s not the real one. Hook and Smee tho notice something odd about the dragon. He keeps appearing and disappearing and sometimes appears transparent. Wes frees the ones that were about to be executed. With the help of a mushroom, Wes grows in size and is able to take out the Jokers and get the others to safety. With Randy’s help in moving the chest pieces to a new cottage and rehanging the mirror the story goes from “The Queen’s Revenge” back to “Through the Looking Glass”. Hook makes a deal with the Queen to be over her army and in exchange he’ll find Alice. Hook shots Douglas (in the battle). The old men uses his staff and wipes out Hook and all his men. Douglas dies after telling Randy he wasn’t doing it to help Hook. Then they all go through the portal. Hook says “So I take it you’re the one.” And their eyes lock as Randy goes through the portal.

My Thoughts
Sadly for me this didn’t get interesting until the Epilogue where Douglas meets the “Muse”. And even that was a lead to nowhere because there’s no following book. Don’t get me wrong this wasn’t a bad story, It’s just that a lot of things made it seem longer when I was reading it than necessary. Maybe it was because the reader I was reading it on stopped after every page and didn’t have long lengths to the pages. Maybe it was because (and this is just my opinion) I didn’t think you should repeat in a flashback (unless you add something to it) what you told between two characters having a conversation about the same thing. Then maybe you also don’t need to add (and this is just my pet peeve) long drawn-out detailed game (or sport) plays. For example, the croquet scene went on WAY to long! So little things like that just made this seem to go on and on and on. There were little things I liked tho. The Joker’s hat attack was unique. I liked how the fairy tale characters were also added and used.

The third in the series finds our heroes trying to set things right in Oz as things in Wonderland begin to heat up. Taylor is kidnapped and is forced to reevaluate her attitude towards Randy, who begins to see his father in a much different light. Once again ending on a cliffhanger, I look forward to seeing how our cast of characters is going to survive with the powerful duo of the bloodthirsty Queen of Hearts and Captain Hook set on a course of taking over our world and leaving their bookish existence behind. Great character development in this one giving us a backstory for one, forcing others to work together and trust each other and one who is discovering untapped powers.

I enjoyed both of the the first two books but simply loved this one! Book two was all about the growth of the two main characters but this one was all about the growth and development of the "bad guys". It was non stop action and a total page turner with a major twist at the end that I simply did not expect.

And it continues

I stumbled on to this series through a discount offer and I'm glad I did. Another twist on the fairy tale world's we know so we'll (or do we). I hope that book four comes out faster then this one.
