Dude, Interrupted

Rate this book
Bryce Slater is eighteen. He's a bad boy hottie who has his pick of chicks. He parties a bit. Smokes a little dope now and then. Likes the occasional random hook-up. So what? He's determined NOT to follow in his father's FBI footsteps.

Avery Sinclair is 19. She's in college, and during the summer she works on her grandparents' horse stables and race track as team leader. She takes her work seriously. Her future is in equine operations. She has no time for slackers on her team. But thanks to her uncle doing a favor for a friend, Avery ends up with Bryce Slater for the summer.

"Slater the Slacker" soon becomes Avery's pet name for him, but damn if she isn't determined to whip him into shape. And while doing so, she finds herself inexplicably drawn to him. But he's so not her type!

Bryce Slater quickly gets on the bad side of his new boss, saucy little half-pint Avery Sinclair. She's a sexy little spitfire who is determined to break his spirit. But in the process, Bryce finds himself inexplicably drawn to her. But she's so not his type.

What started out to be a summer of tough love punishment, turns into something both Bryce and Avery never expected. Just as things are heating up, a blast from Bryce's past threatens the fragility of his new found relationship with Avery.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review.

Dude, Interrupted is the second book in Andrea Smith's G-Man Next Generation Series. You can read this book as a standalone but I highly recommend the first book in the series, Walk of Shame.

I loved this book. I thought it was just perfect. In Dude, Interrupted we meet Bryce Slater who if you have read the original G-Man series is Slate's son. He is a eighteen year old senior in high school who likes to party it up and of course have a hook up or two with no strings attached. He certainly isn't going to follow in his fathers footsteps by joining the military and becoming a FBI Agent. He also has this huge chip on her shoulder from being uprooted in his senior year from his school in D.C. During spring break however a party Bryce is at is raided and Bryce is arrested. Since he is already giving his parents such a hard time his dad uses his influence to make things right but Bryce will be going to a horse ranch as soon as he graduates to work to pay his debt and hopefully grow up. This is where he meets Avery Sinclair who is the nineteen year old daughter of Circuit Court Judge Trey Sinclair. She is Bryce's boss and is cutting him no slack. However, their is an attraction there but his actions kind of turn her off him until one day a stressful event occurs and the tables turn.

I loved Bryce and Avery. He is still kind of a wild child while she at nineteen seems to have it all together and does her job at the ranch like a boss. She is smart and sassy and a perfect match for Bryce. I loved watching these two come together and I loved watching Bryce become the man he was always meant to be. Through in a event from the past that comes back to haunt Bryce and reek havoc on Avery's life and you have the perfect blend of suspense with the romance to keep you reading this book in one sitting. You guys do not want to miss this book. Andrea Smith has never written a book that hasn't grabbed me by the heart and not let go. Her books are absolutely amazing and if you have never read anything she has written you are missing out on some of the best books I have ever read.

I have always loved Andrea's books and I was so happy with Dude Interrupted. If you're familiar with her work then you will know that Bryce is the son of Samantha and Eric from Diamond Girl and Avery is the daughter of Trey and Tylar from the Baby Series. Bryce has a major chip on his shoulder and winds in trouble, his parents decide to send him to the ranch that the Sinclair's run and Avery is his boss. These two get started on the wrong foot right from the beginning. I loved the banter between these two and I loved even more that they became friends first before anything else. Avery was a strong woman, at times she was stubborn, but when she finally gave into her feelings she was a force to be reckoned with. Bryce was grumpy and had an attitude. I really liked this book and I hope we get more from the G-Man series kids.

I really loved Dude Interrupted, but the reason for only 4 stars us that I hated Bryce is woe is me attitude got on my last nerve. I wanted to scream at him to man up. Teehee! The more I got into the book I wanted to throw my Kindle. That to me is a sign that Andrea Smith did a good job of writing to bring out that emotion from a reader. I loved Avery's character she is smart, sassy and strong. She takes no crap from Bryce. When it came time she gave him the space he needed to grow up and become the man, she knew he could be. When it came down to it, Bryce is a good man, he just needed to realize it. Andrea Smith brought characters back from previous books, which is always fun. Even though Bryce got on my nerves, in my opinion Dude Interrupted is worth reading. If you are a G-Man fan, in my opinion this is a great spin off series. It is fun reading about how the next generation navigates growing up and love. I received an ARC edition for my honest and voluntary review.

I really enjoyed the slow pace of the relationship growth between Bryce and Avery. Although they were attracted to one another they didn't rush into anything other than a friendship at first. Avery was the one Bryce reported to for work, and although they did have a boss/employee relationship it never came into play and was definitely not something I would consider taboo. Things didn't go smoothly for them, but honestly anything worth having is worth fighting for.

Bryce Slater is pissed off young man. His parents are at the end of their rope with him. So there send of to a ranch to work for the summer. There he meets Avery Sinclair. Boy is he in for a different world when he get to the ranch and meets Avery. This is the second book in the G-Men next Generation. Loved the book. As always with this author you get it all in her books. I love all her books. I would tell everyone to read this series and the G-men series.

Bryce is nicely flawed in the beginning, someone enjoying a privileged but undisciplined life, is living the wildness that we strait arrows wished there was more of in our history. It all blows up and he is off to shovel shit at a horse farm giving the space to change his ways.

It was interesting to have Bryces parents drop into the story here. Having later read some of their back story in "Diamond Girl", they seem oddly normal when they appear in this story.

But this story is really about Bryce, who comes to value the experience of being part of a family who are strongly connected to each other. Avery is distant at first, but attractive in all the right ways. I looked forward to seeing this unlikely pair find their way to connect. Avery's attraction is motivation for Bryce to recognize another path. Bryce accepts and comes to value that while low on the totem pole his work is respected. If anything, I wanted him to find a path to grow as a contributor to the enterprise of the farm.

Avery is a good girl, who finds appeal in the bad boy. She's organized, with focus, taking on a responsible role for someone so young. When the sex comes, she lets herself go into it, trusting her desirability as a woman. The connection between the two is powerful and believable when it happens. If anything, I wanted Avery to break more of her own boundaries as she rode Bryce.

i enjoyed the transformation of Bryce through the story, but was disappointed in his decision to join the military as a next step towards becoming complete as a man. In his experience at the farm, he made mistakes and struggled to grow. Instead of continuing, in a fully adult relationship with Avery, to grow, he cedes his next steps to military discipline.

Recommended. I am looking forward to reading more by this author.

I love Andrea's G-Men Series and having spin offs with the G-Men children are just icing on the Funfetti (my favorite, don't judge) cake for me! I'm not usually into teenage romance, legal of course, but this book really made me think otherwise. At first, our H starts off as a cocky, immature jock, but because of circumstances, he quickly turns it around and captures my attention with his hot body and bad boy-turned-southern gentleman charm. What a delicious combo! I loved the h as well. A strong girl with snark for days, but also a softy who never knew she was looking for love until it stumbled into her life. This book had everything that I look for and more. I just can't wait to see what comes next in their story!

I was given a code for this book on Audible by the amazing Andrea Smith!

Bryce is sent to a friends Horse Farm to earn money so he can pay off his legal bills from slacking off and partying to hard at home in DC! He is a Senior in high school and refuses to follow in his fathers legal footsteps. At the horse his responsibility is manual labor, and Avery is in charge of making sure he does his job. She is also the grand-daughter of the Horse Farm owner.
I enjoyed this story line and the characters in this sweet and hot young love romance! It had romance, surprises and some drama, but a happily ever after!

Great Story & Audible Listen🎧 Loving❤️G-Man’s Next Generation!
Dude Interrupted
G-Man, Book 7
By: Andrea Smith
Narrated by: David Black

I loved this story, it captivated me from start to end. I have become a huge fan of Andrea Smith’s work, she has a wonderful writing style and creates stories and characters that are interesting and real. I’ve had the pleasure to enjoy the first two books in the G-Man series and am anxiously waiting for the rest of the series to become available on Audible, which is happening soon. While waiting I was happy to see this new release on audible. Dude Interrupted is a G-Man, Next Generation is Bryce’s story, his parents Samantha and Slate are from Diamond Girl. If you were expecting Bryce to be just like his Dad, a diehard G-man, well think again. He is more like a typical angsty teen, though he did inherit a badass attitude and good looks, with no plans to follow his Dad’s footsteps. But he finds himself in a heap of trouble and with a court order he gets sent away to go work on horse ranch cut off from friends and life as he knows it. He is not happy about it but abides and tries to acclimate. Avery Sinclair is the supervisor for all summer workers, including Bryce. She has a take no crap attitude and great work ethic. I loved when these two first met, I loved that she had no problem setting him straight right from the start. I also loved how their opinions of each other begin to change and they start to become friends. All is starting to go well for Bryce until something from his past comes for a surprise visit. A lot goes on in this story, it is well plotted with some plenty of drama, angst and some great plot twists. I loved the build up to romance between Bryce and Avery and most of all I loved the direction Bryce chose to take his life and the great ending. Andrea Smith, thank you for another great story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

I listened to the Audible edition, David Black is a terrific narrator and voice performer. He brings these characters to life, gives each their own voice and personality. He did a great job projecting the emotions of the characters as well as the drama of the story into his performance. He his an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for a great listen🎧

Bryce and Avery's story rocked it! This NA romance was a hit from beginning to end. Bryce is a footloose and wild young man who is still finding himself. Avery is a responsible young woman who lives life a bit too controlled. I loved their story, the drama, the suspense, and the passion. It was awesome to see the older generation now and where their lives are at. Fantastic continuation of the Diamond-Girl and Baby series!

Dude Interrupted is the sweet love story of Bryce Slater, a troubled teen trying to live up to his FBI father’s expectations and Avery Sinclair, a good girl, who’s father is a sitting Federal Judge. It’s true that opposites attract and Andrea Smith’s love story of these two young adults coming together to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles. A heartwarming and funny must read to find out if Bryce and Avery get their HEA.

I seriously hated Bryce at first, especially for what he did to Mandy at that party!!
And I was glad Slate sent him off to work off his debt. But around the time that he saw how upset Avery was, and manned up to the situation, he totally had me!!

Let's get real, being a teenager is not an easy thing to go through. All the changes, physical and mental, are sometimes overwhelming, add to that your parents moving you from what you know and are familiar with to another city and you have more things to worry about and another environment to get used to.

That's exactly what happened to Bryce Slater and for better or worse, he didn't fit well where his parents moved to. The pressures of not fitting in and following in his dad's footsteps send him in a spiral of something that looked a bit like self-destruction. But his parents quick thinking send him somewhere where he could very well find his salvation. Avery Sinclair is the manager for her family's horses' farm, a good girl with a good head on her shoulders and who perhaps is the only one to get Bryce to go back to his usual self before the move.

I'm a big fan of the G-Man series and I love to see their children all grown up and living their own lives. Bryce and Avery are simply perfect for each other, while he's a little wild she's the girl that brings stability and order to his life. I appreciate that the author made their relationship a slow burn and that they were friends before they became lovers. The twist the author wrote into the story gave it the perfect push to make it even more interesting.

This is a quick, fun read with a bit of suspense mixed into it, it will have its audience rooting for Bryce and Avery. Well done!

"Dude, Interrupted," by Andrea Smith, is the second book in the "G-Man, Next Generation" series of books.

Bryce, Slate's son from the original G-Man series, is an 18-year-old rebel. After a bit of trouble, his parents decide that he needs a bit of tough love and send him to do a summer job. The job is where he meets Avery.

Avery is 19-years-old and works the family farm. She is the daughter of Circuit Court Judge Trey Sinclair. Avery becomes Bryce's boss at the stables. With the legal trouble that Bryce had been in and his cavalier attitude, Avery started with a pretty poor opinion of Bryce. It didn't take long for things to turn around.

"Dude, Interrupted" took a different path from the other books, and I loved the rustic setting. The tension is as thick as tar when a blast from Bryce's past enters the fray. It wasn't just a case of a blast from the past, but the mystery surrounding her. Avery and Bryce took a long while to connect, even though they had a connection immediately. This mystery girl brings devastation to their lives. Is she enough to break this bond between Avery and Bryce, or will this help solidify their relationship?! You've definitely got to read this book to find out.

I highly recommend reading this book if you love romance, crime, mysteries, country settings, and even a bit of a coming-of-age story.

Book 7 in Smith's G-Man series and can be read / listened to as a stand alone. This is the first of the series that I've listened to and I really did love it. Bryce starts off as such an a$$ but from the very beginning has his own set of rules he stays true to. Through out the read his character grows by leaps and bounds. Avery by contrast is the goodie girl next door and these two clash from the start. But as both grow into themselves and mature (they're only 18 and 19 respectively) their chemistry cannot be contained or denied. Plenty of steam and lots of sweet romance too. A great, well written / narrated romance read with a good flow to the story line which kept me peaked until the very end.

Oh - I also loved the famous quotes shared throughout!

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

Bryce Slater started this story aged 18, as a bit of a delinquent partying his way through school. When things go a bit too far, he’s shipped off to a ranch in the middle of nowhere for the summer. Avery Sinclair, the 19 year old granddaughter of the ranch owner manages the staff, and she’s not going to let Bryce get away with doing nothing. A wonderful coming of age romance, in which we see Bryce mature to be the man I would expect to be raised by Sammie and Slate (Diamond Girl, G-Man, book 1). We also see a little bit of drama thrown in to the mix that I loved, because, everyone loves a bad guy or girl in the storyline, right? Great characters, great story, and perfect narration from David Black, who pegs both Avery and Bryce with perfect teenage tones.

I love that Andrea is continuing the G-Men books. I love that she brought Bryce and Avery together. It is the perfect mix. When Bryce's past catches up with him, he is sent off to a horse ranch where he meets Avery. Things are going well until Mandy, from his past, shows up. This book is a fun read. Learn about Bryce, Avery, and Mandy's story. This excellent story is coming out in March.

Dude Interrupted is the story of Bryce and Avery. I really enjoyed this story and I loved how strong Avery was. Bryce had no chance of overpowering her. After a rough start, he turned out to be a great guy, but there was quite a bump to overcome first.

This review is based on the audiobook. It was a real pleasure to listen to this book. The narrator did a great job with both male and female voices.

Another great story in this series from Andrea Smith.
Dude interrupted is Bryce and Averys romance.
I really enjoyed listening to this book which is Narrated solely by David Black who portrays all characters male and female.I think he did a fantastic job at seperating the male and female voices, and he was so expressive and showed all the emotions neccessary.
I LOved hearing this book read to me by David.
Bryce is a teenager with a huge chip on his shoulder,he had to uproot everything to move because of his dad's work...He is so resentful so he goes off the rails and doesn't seem to care about anything.
Drinking, smoking, partying and sex thats what he lives for,he has no thought or care for his future.
Then one night at a party things go wrong and Bryce ends up in jail..which angers his parents and this is when they give him an ultimatum..Clean up his act and go to work for the summer at a horse ranch/race track, earn a decent wage to pay off his jail fees...or he will end up in jail.
He has no choice but to go to the farm taking with him his bad attitude arriving at the farm he is secluded from the outside world.
Avery is attending college but works at her grandparents farm in between classes etc...The new guy who arrives on the ranch will be working with her crew..He may be HOT and gorgeous but he gets under her skin and aggrivates her.She doesn't have much hope for him being a good worker his whole attitude stinks.
They clash big time the banter is so funny and I found Bryce so amusing at times,he was so put out by everything. But it was good to see him like this because by the end of the book when you compare him to the lost and angry young man he is when he arrives at the farm.To the confident, self assured man he becomes, his whole demeanor changes completely and it is wonderful to read/listen.
Avery is surprised by Bryce and how hard working he his,she is drawn to him and she has no idea why they get so close and the chemistry between them is so potent and they embark on a slow burn relationship.
Then just when everything is falling into place for Bryce someone from his past finds him and blows his life apart, putting the new romance with Avery at risk and his new reputation in jeopardy.
This book had me laughing and swooning at the same time..there is a really good plot that I won't disclose but it really brings out the love between Avery and Bryce despite the challenge ahead.
This is a glorious enemies to lovers kind of book with great characters and a really riveting
storyline.I loved it !!
Superb.

This book could have been good, but Avery and Bryce becoming friends isn’t shown and then it’s just ex drama.

I liked Avery, and Bryce was fine after he decided to change. The problem was that they decided to become friends before trying to date, which I liked, except it wasn’t shown at all. It says that they spent a month getting to know each other and spending time together, but it’s all in the background so you don’t actually see them being friends. There were some scenes showing them dating, but then the conflict happens, and I stopped caring about the book.

There were some side characters, but they were all in the background. Also, it’s mentioned when Avery and Bryce are working, but you don’t really get the atmosphere of them working at a ranch.

Apart from the conflict and ex drama, I didn’t like how the book ended. Bryce makes some choices and Avery is happy to follow them.

This book could have been good, but I didn’t like how things happened, the ex drama, and the ending. I’m not going to continue with this series, and I’m not sure if I’d want to try other books by this author.
