When Jean Craig was able to resume her art lessons, she realized how important a career was to her, but the return of Ralph MacRae leaves her unable to make a decision.

I am smooth-reading this book and Project Gutenberg will publish it.

I was thoroughly confused by this book. The title is "Jean Craig Finds Romance," but the main character is Jean's sister, Kit Craig, and Jean is barely even in the book. She does find "romance," of sorts, but if by romance, Lyttleton means Jean gets engaged over the course of two pages 20 pages before the book ends, then I guess she does find "love." But there is no romance in this book, unless Kit's interaction with Frank counts. So I feel completely lied to by this book since I expected to read a story about a girl named Jean Craig who finds romance, and instead read about a girl named Kit Craig who goes to college.

Regarding the story itself, it was just all right. I don't feel like I got to know any of the characters very well, so I could never get into the book, and they all seemed very...fake. Kit says "swell" and "jeepers" a lot (I know this book was written in 1948, but still), and when the family house burns down/the family is in serious financial straits, no one seems overly concerned about it. It's very strange. So, though I tried to approach this book with an open mind (having read and enjoyed Nancy Drew books written only 15 or so years later), I just couldn't believe the characters or the plot of this novel.

Warnings (on a scale of 1-5):

None: This book is clean, though there is some insinuation that women are less intelligent than men and that they have to give up any thought of a career if they want to get married and have a family.

I honestly did not like this book, note that I held back and didn't say that I hated it. I'm sure during the time period that it was published in it was an acceptable piece of fiction. Also the title "Jean Craig Finds Romance" has nothing to do with the actual story, Jean Craig isn't even really in the story until the end when she gets engaged...sorry if that spoiled the story for you. The main character of this novel is Kit Craig, Jean's little sister and I have little else to say about this book.

WARNING: This book somewhat supports false notions that men are somehow superior to women. ha!

Honestly, not my favorite book. After I read it I dropped to my knees and thanked God that I didn't live in this time period and have to read these books. It was hard to know what was going on in the story. I felt like it jumped all over the place. The weird thing too is that it doesn't even mention Jean Craig a whole lot in the book. We get a few glimpses of her here and there but the book is more focused on Kit, Jean's younger sister. It's actually told from her point of view. So yeah, I don't really recommend it to anyone, unless you like old books, then go for it.

Warnings:
drugs: nope
sex: nope
rock n' roll: a teenage girl goes to college for some reason
language: nope
