Not only a great story, but also lovely touch-and-feel. Some books don't really get that right, but this one did!

This book is the story of the owl flying through different scenes of a farm. Each page has a patch that has a texture that your child can touch. The art work is pretty good and the text is fine. The patches are high quality and are a good mixture of textures. The reason I gave this book three stars is that the text one each page is written in a dark ink, even on pages that are dark blue backgrounds. This makes it quite difficult to read. I typically read books to my son in a room with dimmed lights to help set the bedtime mood. The dark font on dark pages just made some parts of this book too difficult to read. It is a perplexing choice that I've never seen in other books. Reading shouldn't be an effort that requires me to squint and shift the book this way and that. Perhaps in the next edition they will update this flaw.

This book was adorable for a young child. This book takes place on a farm where an owl flies around to check on the other animals getting ready for sleep. Each page in the story has a spot where kids can touch and feel. The feeling parts were minimal for how big the book was. I was surprised by that. The pictures offered many different colors and beautiful sketched-out and detailed animals. There are so many different textures in the book, giving a child plenty of variety. I found some of the pages hard to read because of the words and some of the pages to be dark. This can be distracting for a parent reading this when their child is in bed trying to fall asleep, and they cannot read it with just a night light on. That is honestly the biggest complaint I have. Besides that, the book is sweet and to the point, and it even rhymes.

Larger than most touch and feel books but the textured part of each page is just as small as a baby size board book. It shows how owl wakes up as the other animals go to sleep and then as morning approaches it is owl's turn to go to sleep. Owl, pigs, horses, scarecrow (w/mice), cows, hen w/chicks, tractor, duck, and sheep.

We read this book almost every night in my house. It not only sets the tone for bedtime, but it explores different elements of a farm and includes touch-and-feel pages that make it more realistic. The rhyming scheme and the repetition makes it simple for young children to recite.

While the storyline is good, the illustration is very dark and there isn’t enough contrast with the font making it challenging to read at times. A little long for newborns and young babies; better to wait for toddler years.

The color of the font is too dark. Trying to read to a child, while they are in bed and the lights low, is impossible.

Despite the 5 stars I'm writing a review specifically to complain. It's perfect for my 10 month old except for one thing. I got it as a bedtime story and the dark text against dark images on some pages make it hard to read in dim lighting.

Rhyming texts describes how the animals of the farm settle in for a long night's rest. Though text is a little long for a board book, I think this one will still work as a read aloud, especially because the touch-and-feel features will keep little hands busy.

Recommended for Babies and Toddlers.

In this charming board book, rhyming text describes how the animals on the farm settle down to sleep as night falls. But Owl's sleeping time has ended, and she flies over the land and notices all the sleeping animals far below. Each double-page spread shows the farm creatures, including pigs, horses, cows, chicks, and ducks slumbering on. There are even objects such as a scarecrow in the field and a tractor near the shed that have gone to sleep. Youngsters will be drawn to the images, many of which have material that they can stroke in order to feel the down on the chicks or the mane on the horses, for instance. This one is perfectly suited for sharing with little ones who are likely to clamor to hear it over and over again.
