Missy lives in a small town in Central Victoria with her husband, and her confused pets (a dog who think she's a cat, a cat who thinks he's a dog...you get the picture).
When she's not writing, she can usually be found looking for something to read.
*****FOUR STARS***** {ARC Generously Provided by Author}
DON’T GO THERE is a crazy and hilarious second chance romance which at times felt like the female version of the blockbuster hit movie, ”The Hangover”. Katie winds up in Vegas after her cousin Lily, convinces her to accompany her, but what she doesn’t know is that Lily’s ex-boyfriend is getting married and she wants to confront him before he walks down the aisle. The girls end up in a Karaoke bar and after having a little too much to drink, Katie gives the performance of a lifetime, singing a song she wrote when she was fourteen for her high school crush. The next day she finds out her cousin video recorded her singing and that it’s been sent to everyone on Lily’s contact list.
Adam, the high-school crush, happens to be in Vegas as well. He’s actually the best-man at Julian’s, Lily’s ex, wedding. A friend shows him the video of Katie and soon enough he’s on a mission to find Katie and her friends, under the guise of keeping them away from Julian. He has ulterior motives and the story got a little confusing until almost three-quarters of the way through it.
I think the comedic banter between Katie and Adam, and the plot with regards to Lily trying to break up the wedding was truly enough to make this an entertaining story. There wasn’t really a need for all of the other twists in the plot, and Adam’s tragic family history felt out of place. The story would have been even better if the author had stuck with the comedic aspect.
I can’t say that I didn’t enjoy this one though. There were several times that I laughed out loud and I loved the chemistry between Adam and Katie. The ”Awkward Love” series is one of my favorites written by Missy Johnson.
Katie lives in Seattle and spends most of her time working and studying. She's in the final year of her degree in forensics and loves her job as an emergency response cleaner. Her life is somewhat routine & then she reluctantly agrees to a weekend away in Vegas with her cousin Lily. Lily is emotionally unstable and lovesick over her ex who's getting married. She thinks it's her job to keep an eye on her cousin, and make sure she doesn't do anything stupid. Once they arrive she's blindsided by her cousins antics, and things begin to spiral out of control.
Vodka & karaoke mix to create a humiliating moment for Katie. She sings a song she wrote when she was fourteen about the guy she had a huge crush on. Then he suddenly shows up at her hotel room. She's stunned to see Adam. He picked on her in school, and broke her heart. He's still just as gorgeous, and just as arrogant. They end up on a road trip together to get her cousin home before she crashes the wedding. Adam has his own agenda full of secrets and lies. Katie is an unexpected complication, but he can't help how badly he wants her.
This was a cute romance full of humor and surprises. The girls trip from hell turns into reuniting with a high school crush. I really have enjoyed this Awkward Love series, and look forward to book 6.
You know that saying, ‘what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas’ right? If only that were true…
Katie is in Vegas with her best friend Darcy and their crazy friend Lily. Lily’s ex is getting married and she is determined to talk to him before he commits to someone else. Katie & Darcy are hell bent on keeping her away from him.
Part of the wedding entourage is Adam. The boy who Katie was in love with at school. You remember that feeling in your early teens when you develop your first crush and just wish that they would one day notice you? The name you drew all over your books, practicing what your name would look like with his surname. Well, Katie went one step further than that and even wrote a song about him.
This is where things take a different turn for them all. After getting absolutely plastered and singing karaoke, Katie is horrified when she realises she sang that ‘Adam’ song, and also confessed her childhood crush to her friends, they recorded it and somehow Adam gets sent the video.
Adam knocking on her hotel room door the next morning, while she is incapacitated by a hangover soon enlightens her to what went on in the last 12 hours. She is beyond humiliated and wishing the floor would swallow her.
Adam knows that having Lily show up at his best friend’s wedding will ruin everything so the only thing he can do is drive the girls back home. A 17 hour road trip with three hungover women, what could possibly go wrong?
This is another fun story in the Awkward Love series. Plenty of laugh out loud moments and really easy to read.
I do feel like I need to warn you that you should NOT GOOGLE THE 2 WORDS Adam asks Katie to google, no matter what don't do it. I handled it well, but some of you might not.
After some thought, I have decided to lower my original 4-star rating to a 3 because I feel like this is the weakest book in the series. I am all in for the crazy plots so far and I will read the next book, but this one didn't even manage to make smile or wonder why I was reading a very absurd book (and I mean that in a nice way). I just wasn't a big fan of the book and the main characters. They didn't work for me, unfortunately. I am also a little disappointed with the way Lily's story ended. I was expecting something more.
The book in total wasn't bad and I had no trouble reading it. I just didn't love it as much as I was expecting and the thing is that I started reading the arc as soon as I got it on my kindle. I have come to expect some funny scenes with situations that normally would have a person stop reading the book because they are preposterous. I am not sure on the recommendation though.
This has been my favorite of the series so far, so many LAUGH OUT LOUD moments and a few times I had to wipe tears from my eyes. This was a nice break from some of the heavier books I have been reading lately and dare I say it put me in the mood for some karaoke ;)
What Happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas is a great tagline but unfortunately not always true especially when you have to much alcohol in your system and someone videos you singing some really awful karaoke about a guy that broke your heart when you were fourteen and then sends it to her contact list....YEP! OMG I'm still laughing over that, I can totally see someone doing that - not on purpose but regardless can you imagine the embarrassment it would cause you....and what if said guy that broke your heart saw it? How would you feel then? Oh god I think I'd hide in my house for the next few years...LOL
ROAD TRIP! Fun right? Well what if your trying to get your friend away from her ex so she doesn't crash his wedding...would you still think it was fun? Maybe not, but, this road trip had a ton of LOL moments which definitely made it one for the memories.
This book was not only funny but it was steamy as well. The chemistry between Katie and Adam was great, I don't know if it was the fact that they were both into one another as teenagers or if it was more because it was an enemy-to-lovers type romance, either way they were great together! This story had a couple of surprises, one I figured out pretty early on and the other one really shock the shit out of me. Yep didn't see that one coming AT ALL!
Don't Go There is the fifth book in the Awkward Love series but can be read as a standalone. I would recommend this story to just about everyone, it's light, it's fun, and it has a lot of sexy times too. One bit of advice though, the author mentions a few words/terms that you may not be familiar with and she puts a disclaimer at the end of the book about them...for the love of all things good in this world DO NOT GOOGLE IMAGES OF BLUE WAFFLES! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!! Happy Reading!!!

This was my first Missy Johnson book but it won’t be my last! The story line was fantastic, hilarious, and a little unique. I thought the writing was great and the story flowed smoothly. All of the characters were one of a kind, witty, sarcastic and funny.
Katie had a huge crush on Adam in high school. It was so bad that she wrote poems and a song about him. A song that she ends up singing while drunk in Vegas. And to top it off, her cousin Lily ends up getting it on video and sends it to everyone in her contacts. Things spiral from there but get ready for a wild ride!
I loved how awkward Katie was and how embarrassed she got. There were several places I had to put the book down for a minute because I felt so embarrassed for her. I was on the fence about Adam. I couldn’t figure out if he was a good guy or a mob guy, a sweetheart or a caring jerk. He won me over in the end! I loved everything about this book and I cannot wait to read more books in this series.
This is my first book by Missy Johnson and let me say it is freaking hilarious. These characters are fun, witty and extremely loveable. Katie had a huge crush on Adam in high school. Running into him years later on a trip to Vegas is the last thing she needs. Especially after she’s gotten drunk and he’s seen her in a very damaging video. Thrown together in unusual circumstances and you end up with a very funny and lighthearted read. It’s just what I needed to cheer me up after a terrible week. I really enjoyed it, it’s definitely a must read.
I love Missy Johnson books. So freaking funny, and this series is awkwardly hilarious but also sweet as all get out!!! Katie is coerced into going to Las Vegas by her aloof trouble making cousin, and she is not happy about it. Her Bff shows up and then there were 3! They are sooo funny together when they're drunk and when they're not drunk. The arguments between Lily and Darcy...sooo funny. They go out to karaoke one night, and the next morning, Katie does not remember much. But no need, her cousin films the whole thing, embarrassing her especially the song she sang to and about Adam when she was 14 years old. Hahahah, that's hilarious, well guess who sees it??!!! 😬
Adam and Katie know each other from back in the day all throughout school. He used to tease her, bully her, aggravate her, and he can't believe she's in the same place he is, and he is totally hot for her.
This was such a funny, awkward story, I totally enjoyed it!!! Katie and Adam have the right chemistry, they pick and prod each other but do care for one another. Definitely pick this book up and any Missy Johnson book, they will really keep you entertained.
Arc provided for an honest review. I’d give this about 2.5 stars. The dialogue was confusing mess. I had no idea what the heck they were talking about more than half the time. I didn’t realize that this was part of a series, one I haven’t read. It felt like there was some back story missing, that was needed to understand the storyline. Katie, she went from uptight to sex kitten at the blink of an eye. She didn’t even try to put up a fight with Adam’s constant sexual innuendo’s. She thought Adam was a criminal, yet she jumped right in when she was trying to get into a competitive job within law enforcement? Adam, he was a bit soft for supposedly doing what he was doing for the time he was supposed to have been doing it. Perhaps it was Broadway mafia? I’m not quite sure how the ending worked out either, it was completely different than what Adam was saying had to happen. Darcy was the best part of the book, with her crazy personality.
This book was so awesome and hilarious!! I am absolutely loving this series!!! But this book had me in stiches almost from the very beginning to the end!! The girls night out was epicness, the road trip was just crazy, the pranks was out of this world!!! I mean I am jealous I want to live in this book!! This by far is definitely on my top reads of 2018!!! I highly highly recommend this book!!! - By Tina
Don’t Go There by Missy Johnson is part of her standalone Awkward Love series. I have to say I am loving this series. They are funny, sexy and just great overall reads with very engaging stories and characters!
Adam and Katie have history and not the good kind, but now they also have all kinds of chemistry as well! Then one night happens that includes vodka and karaoke, what can go wrong?
Katie loves her cousin Lily, which is why she is with her in Vegas trying to stop her from making a mistake. What she did not count on was seeing the one man she never wanted to see again. Now they are on a road trip to get her cousin away from her ex’s wedding.
I loved all the characters in this stories. Good friends, enemies and some very hilarious antics! Katie was sweet and caring and loves her friends and family. Adam was not always the nicest, but we begin to see different sides of him throughout the story.
Don’t Go There by Missy Johnson was such a fun read with all kinds of awkwardness and laugh out loud moments. I loved Adam and Katie and their banter. Another great read in this series!
Don’t Go There was another laugh out loud sexy romance from Missy Johnson. I am loving this series and these books. This is one you don’t want to miss, especially if you ever wrote something for a boy you crushed on who didn’t return your feelings. Let’s just say that Katie’s song to Adam, well it topped anything I ever dreamed of writing when I was a teenager, and no that is not a compliment, the song was horrible but hilarious at the same time.
Adam is trying to keep his friend’s ex-girlfriend from crashing his friend’s wedding, her cousin just happens to be Katie, the same Katie who drunkenly sang a song to him that she wrote during karaoke that got send to Adam and other’s phones. Adam was the boy Katie loved to hate but crushed on at the same time. When these two join forces to keep Katie’s cousin away from the wedding, the chemistry between them explodes and things get really hot. Add in some over the top drama, secrets revealed, and you have a book that will have you smiling, snorting and laughing throughout it.
Don’t Go There was another enjoyable and fast paced read from Missy Johnson and one that I can easily say needs to be on your TBR lists. I can’t wait for the next book and I hope you give these books a try.
OMG I swear with each book it keep getting better. I have read every single book in the awkward series and they keep getting better and better. I completely loved this couple they were to funny and way to cute. Katie and Adam aka Frederick were so funny. I loved the fact that they had a history from school and that they reconnected. Sure it was an awkward reconnect but none the less amazingly funny. This book is a domino effect of events that get funnier and brings the main characters closer together. There are so many moments that will have you laughing out loud so make sure and read alone and not in public. I absolute love Darcy and would love to hear her story and I would like to know if even Lily gets her happy ending. I can’t say enough about his book with out saying to much and give away the really good parts but it is so worth the purchase so make sure you do go and buy a copy you will be laughing so much.
I received a copy or the ARC but purchased one for my sister as a gift is was too good.
"My emotionally unstable and lovesick cousin just blindsided me into going on the girl's trip from hell."
Katie can't help trying to save her cousin from her own craziness, even if it means going to Vegas to stop her from trying to stop her ex's wedding! Unfortunately, what happens in Vegas doesn't stay in Vegas when a cringeworthy video of Katie ends up in the last place Katie would ever want it to end up!
"It's the smile that gets me. That's the reason I can't look away...I swallow the lump forming in my throat and sit forward."
Adam is the guy who teased and bullied Katie mercilessly at school. When his path crosses with Katie's he's blindsided by his attraction to her, but also in very real danger of his secrets coming to light. So, he does the only thing he can do....he coerces them into a road trip home - away from Vegas. Unfortunately, things don't go exactly to plan.
This series is not called Awkward Love for nothing! Embarrassing incidents, ignominious pranks, and comedy capers abound!
Katie is quite a sweet character with her heart in the right place, and a strong sense of duty. Adam comes across as a jerk who can't resist yanking her chain. However, their chemistry is strong and sexy, and I loved the fun they had with each other.
Don't Go There by Missy Johnson is a good read. It's book five in the Awkward Love series but it can be read as a standalone. This one is a fun read.
Katie gets suckered into going to with her cousin Lily on a girl weekend trip. Lily isn't all that truthful on why she wants to go on the trip to Vegas. Katie's friend Darcy ends up going to. Lily is trying to talk to her ex before he gets married. Katie is definitely a lot more mellow than Lily and Darcy. Katie's path crosses with Adam who was her crush in high school. Their are sparks between them. Adam is a great guy but he has a secret that he's keeping. This was was a great read from beginning to end.
Everyone of these awkward love books are amazing and hilarious. Katie works and goes to school. But he cousin Lily wants her to come spend the weekend in Vegas with her. When Katie finds out Lilys ex is getting married she knows she needs to go to keep her out of trouble. Along with her bestie Darcy they go to Vegas and while out at a karaoke bar she sings a song she wrote about her high school crush. Lily accidentally sends it to her whole contact list. Adam is in Vegas undercover but no one knows not even his best friend Julian and with his wedding coming up he needs to get anyone from finding out. Laughs, love and sexy abound. I can't wait to see what comes out next!
Well written and enjoyable. A trip to Vegas becomes so much more. She gets dragged to Vegas thinking she is going for an easy vacation. Little does she know there is so much more to this. A drucken night of singing leads to a video that will forever change her life. I absolutely loved this storyline. some great laugh out loud moments while reading this one. What these two do to each other will have you laughing out loud. Enjoyable highly recommend.
What a crazy story this was, loved every page! Could not put it down , I had to know what happened next. It's been yrs since Katie seen her Jr high crush, Adam. And there he is randomly at her hotel door in Vegas. Bad boy meets good girl with a ton of laughs and extreme chemistry. This book is a must read
These Awkward Love books by Missy Johnson are simply amazing. Laugh out loud. sometimes til you cry, funny. Don't Go There was a hilarious romp that kept me engaged from start to finish. Even though it's Book 5 in the series, it was a stand-alone story so no need to have read the earlier books (they were just as good though!). Although it appears in Book 6 we get Darcy's story. Looking forward to that wild ride!
Missy always finds new and embarrassing situations to put her characters in and it makes for one hell of a read. Reading this book brought tears of laughter and odd looks from the people around me and it was worth it. Another great read.
Another great addition to this series of books. Adam and Katie are a hilarious couple with some great laugh out loud pranks that lead to some embarrassing situations.
I love this Awkward series because every situation that each couple finds themselves in, I cannot fathom how they come about or how you would get out of it! In this case Katie goes with her cousin Lily to Vegas as she wants to speak with her ex Julian before he gets married. When they arrive Katie’s friend Darcy joins them and they go out drinking. Katie and drinking don’t really mix but add in some karaoke and it’s all downhill from there. Then Lily sends the recorded video message to Julian and inadvertently her ENTIRE contact list...oops! When they wake up the next morning, the last person they ever expected to knock on the door is Adam, oh and the video message Lily sent was all about Adam and Katie’s crush on him in school....double oops! Now they have to road trip home with Adam driving them.....super awkward:)
Loved the book and got our HEA! Thank you Missy for my advanced copy for which I leave my honest and willing review:)
This is the fifth book in this series. Every book is hilarious. Every couple has an awkward start to their relationship and Katie and Adam are no different.
Katie spends her days between working and going to school. She doesn’t have time for anything else.
Katie’s cousin Lily comes over begging her to come to Las Vegas for a weekend getaway. Lily know what to say to get Katie to agree to her crazy antics. After Katie calls her best friend Darcy she realizes that there’s a reason behind Lily’s Las Vegas trip. Her ex-boyfriend Julian is getting married.
Katie’s reasons for going are easy. Keeping Lily away from Julian’s wedding. Luckily for her, her best friend shows up to help. When Lily and Darcy talk Katie into getting out of the hotel room and have some fun Katie knew it was a bad idea but went anyway.
Katie wakes up the next morning with a major hangover. But, that’s not the worst of it. Katie quickly learns that Lily and Darcy talked her into singing karaoke. It wasn’t just any song. Nope. It was the song she wrote when she was a love sick teenager. She was in love with Adam and he spent his high school days taunting and bullying her but she was in love with him anyway.
Katie wrote an entire song to him explaining all her fantasy’s about him. Little did Katie know Lily recorded the song and meant to send it to Julian but accidentally sent it to her entire contact list. If that wasn’t bad enough, Katie wakes up to somebody banging on her door. When she opens the door imagine her surprise when Adams standing there looking fine and yet full of trouble.
Adam is on a mission. He’s been living a double life for so long. His best friend Julian has known him since they were in school. But, thinks he’s in witness protection and goes by the name Frederick. Adam works for a mafia crime boss and Julian’s marrying his daughter.
Adam gets a text from Julian’s ex-girlfriend Lily. He’s shocked for two reasons, the first because it’s Katie singing karaoke a song all about him. He always had a crush on her. She’s even more beautiful then Adam remembered. The other reason he’s shocked is Katie, Lily and Darcy are here in Las Vegas and he knows it’s bc Lily wants to stop the wedding.
Adam knows if Julian’s soon to be FIL sees the girls they’ll be issues or if somebody here’s them call him Adam somebody will die. Adam insists on driving the girls back home. That means he’ll be in the car with Katie, Lily and Darcy for 17 hours. He knows it’s going to be a long awkward interesting drive.
I finished this book in one afternoon. It had me laughing so hard at certain parts it was unreal. The things Katie and Adam did to each other was both wrong yet hysterical at the same time. Not including some of the situations they got themselves into had me dying. Their chemistry was hot, sizzling and perfect.
I really like this series. Every storyline is great and gets me hooked from the first page. I’m looking forward to the next book.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.
Vodka should come with a warning. Mixing with Karaoke will make you do stupid stuff, like sing that song you wrote when you were fourteen, about he boy who broke your heart. At least he didn't see it. Oh wait. He did. I should've just stayed home. The only reason I came was to stop Lily from doing something stupid, like crash he wedding of her ex-boyfriend When I open my hotel room door to find Adam standing there, that sexy smirk tells me he's hasn't changed. He's still the same arrogant asshole who make my childhood hell. He insist on driving us home, and while he's the last person I want to be around, he and I both know it's a bad idea for Lily to be anywhere near that wedding. I am on the road trip from hell with my heartbroken cousin, and the one guy I can't stand. What was I thinking?
This book is filled with so many things happening. You have Katie whose cousin Lily has invited her on a trip to Vegas. This too also happens to be the weekend that Katie's ex is getting married and Katie feels obligated to go and keep her from ruining Julian's wedding. She has not business being anywhere near that wedding. However once they get to Vegas Katie's best friend Darcy is there and is going to help keep Lily away from this wedding. Then you have Adam who works for a mafia boss as his right hand man but who is also now called Fredrick and keeping a huge secret from everyone who thinks that he is in witness protection. Adam sees Lily in the bar down in the hotel lobby but when he gets back she is gone and he wasn't sure if he was seeing things or not. That is until he gets this video of Katie singing a song about him that she wrote when she was fourteen that Lily just sent to every single person on her contact list. Finding them he insist that they have to get out of there and back to Seattle before Lily is able to mess with Julian's wedding since she isn't aware that his father in law to be and fiance are mafia people. I am sure I left something out. But this is a hilarious read about a girl determined to stop a wedding and Katie having to go try to prevent this and then running into Adam her high school crush that she has never forgotten. Trust me there is some serious chemistry between these two and they give as good as they get with the practical jokes the smirks and comments. This book was fun to read.
Ever been in a situation that is so awkward all you can do is laugh? Well that's basically every page of this book. Don't Go There is part of the Awkward Love series so it's fitting.
Katie is wrangled into going to Vegas with her selfish, flighty cousin, Lily. She thinks she's there to help her mend her broken heart because her ex is getting married...to someone else but Lily has other plans, like crashing the wedding. Thank God, Darcy, Katie's best friend, shows up because despite how crazy she is, it's going to take both of them to keep Lily under control. Against Katie's wishes, Darcy is determined that getting Lily's mind off it and making Katie have some fun for once, is the perfect remedy to their current woes. After a drunken night out, where the song Katie wrote for her teenage heartthrob makes it's karaoke debut, she's shocked to find that same heartthrob at her hotel door.
Adam Jenkins sees Lily in the lobby of their hotel and instantly knows she's up to no good. Leave it to Lily to fly all the way to Vegas to ruin Julian's wedding. He's got to get her out of Vegas and save his best friend's wedding and maybe even his own life. You see Adam works for the bride's mafia father and he'll be none too pleased if the wedding doesn't go as planned. But the last thing Adam expects is to wake up to a video of little Katie Harris singing her "Adam" song... badly. Stuck between hysterics and utter fascination with Katie (leftover from their high school days), he's got to figure out how to get these three ridiculous women out of Vegas before things go from bad to worse.
Katie knows road tripping with Adam Jenkins is the worst idea ever. She has no idea how much worse it can be but she's about to find out.
This book was an over the top, completely ridiculous story along the lines of the Hangover, complete with different identities, missing friends, incriminating videos and copious amounts of booze. There's more under the story but you'll find yourself laughing at the antics and the completely insane prank war. Funny and endearing read.

Don’t go There is the 5th book in the Awkward Love series, a standalone book that will leave you in tears from laughing so much.
Katie got suckered into a girl’s weekend with her cousin, when she figures out she will be enabling her to crashing her ex’s wedding she goes about stopping her. Katie lets go, she has her job and studies and not a lot of time or desire to go out, when she is forced out for the night with some liquid courage a video is created and accidently sent out to an entire contacts list. Adam cannot believe his eyes, he is watching Katie confess her teenage love for him including an original song, when he realises that their presence could ruin his best friend’s wedding he jumps into action to save the day but starts to feel the pressure from juggling to many secrets. Will he lose everything that matters to him when the ball drops?
Katie and Adam are hilarious, their constant banter and pranks left you giggling to myself throughout the book. Their relationship turned steamy and they never looked back, giving into their feelings and letting their chemistry explode on the pages. I could not get enough of them.
Missy does not disappoint with this book and I am again left hanging for the next book the moment I turned the last page. Her minor characters are quirky and have their own loud personalities leaving me wanting to be part of their trip to Vegas.
I personally loved this book, if you are looking for a rom-com novel that leaves you in stitches this is the book and series for you. Missy has landed the jackpot with this one, I cannot wait to read the next Awkward Love book.
