History, maps, old photos, first-hand letter exerpts--what's not to like? Plenty. This 1981 reprint of Ellison's 1931 effort suffers from all the shortcomings of the original. That the current editors make "no pretense" to overcome the admitted shortcomings of the original is no excuse. If reads as if they were just rushing something to print to offer to tourists.
The narrative is halting and stilted; it frequently is out of chronological order; and several times repeats itself--not word-for-word but retells the same story.
Why two stars, instead of one? Those maps and old photos.

Interesting History

This is a very good history of Fort Bridger . In addition, it goes into a brief history of Jim Bridger, Judge Cater,& the conflicts with the Indians & Mormons. A nice little book to have & read.
