Exploring Creation with Physical Science, 2nd Edition is designed to help your student make the transition from junior high to high school science. During this course, your student will study their physical environment and the basic laws that make it work. Topics include the Earth’s atmosphere, weather, motion, Newton’s laws, gravity, atomic structure, radiation, nuclear reaction, and outer space. Experiments for this course include examining carbon dioxide and the greenhouse effect, exploring the forces between molecules, modeling plate tectonics, predicting weather, and much more. We recommend that your student take this course while taking or after completing pre-algebra math.
Jay Wile learned about his love for chemistry when his dedicated parents bought him his first chemistry set. Many stink bombs and a few explosions later, he was hooked! Although he loved chemistry, he also had many other interests. For a while, he thought about becoming a concert pianist, but unfortunately, his fingers were not long enough (no kidding!). As he was finishing up his high school years, he became extremely interested in the theater and began to pursue a career in acting. Partly because he learned the science behind some of the special effects of the plays in which he performed, he eventually went back to his first love: chemistry.
He went to the University of Rochester in upstate New York to study chemistry, and while he was there, he began working on nuclear chemistry experiments. He became so fascinated with nuclear chemistry that he stayed at the University of Rochester and got a Ph.D. in that field. For several years, he did research in the field under the auspices of the Department of Energy and the National Science Foundation. This research led to several grants and many publications. While doing research, Dr. Wile was also an assistant professor of chemistry.
Dr. Wile's love of science is demonstrated by the many awards he has won for excellence in teaching and research. He has also presented numerous lectures on the topics of Nuclear Chemistry, Christian Apologetics, Homeschooling, and Creation vs. Evolution. He has published 30 articles on these subjects in nationally-recognized, peer-reviewed journals, and has 9 books to his credit, most of which belong to the award-winning "Exploring Creation with" series of junior-high and high-school science courses.
You did it Dr. Wile, you really got me hooked! This is such an enjoyable, fascinatingly interesting, and stunningly phenomenal piece of work! To learn about the stunning physical world we live in, created by an All-loving God is such a wonderful gift! This book has SO much color which really fascinated me and kept me moving through it. Actually, the pictures were not what kept me moving... it was the content. But the addition of all the colors made it sooooo much more enjoyable (not that it wasn't enjoyable enough... trust me). If you are looking to learn about the physical world and simple astrophysics, the atmosphere, hydrosphere, weather, structure of the earth, environmentalism, Newton's laws, and so much more, then this book will surely keep you engaged 100% all the way through!! Such a remarkable book! I also love that it stresses the importance that every simple thing was created by God!
simply terrible. it is really disappointing to have your science book constantly trying to counter the overwhelming scientific evidence that disproves young-earth creationism. when the author calms down about young-earth “evidence” and actually starts teaching about the topics students need to learn in physical science, he does so in an over-complicated, patronizing, and badly-formatted style. no one should have to read this book when there are so many other textbooks that could teach physical science.
I did the second edition course in a co-op setting and learned so much, yet enjoyed it at the same time. You can currently buy the textbook and solutions/tests books here: http://www.rainbowresource.com/proddt...
Most of the supplies needed to complete the course's 48 experiments are items you'll already have in your house, although the items you're less likely to have can be purchased here: http://www.hometrainingtools.com/phys...
I finished this course on May 14, 2015. This book was my first textbook by Dr. Wile. I loved the style of clarity and conversation he took in writing this book. My one regret is that I didn't do General Science by Dr. Wile in 7th grade, because now I will be going into high school and starting Exploring Creation with Biology.
COMING SOON: A detailed review of this course on my blog. Visit kaylasnotebook.blogspot.com to see it.
