A complete mess, I'm not sure dynamite knew what they wanted this to be. Firstly this series started with Kevin Smith's run called Green Hornet, then they changed it to Legacy later on when they created a new Green Hornet title by Mark Waid and then they had this. What a bloody mess, I'm glad I went the omnibus route and had comicvine to tell me what came where.

Anyway the plot for this if you can call it that, Britt Reid has disappeared so Kate must become the Green Hornet.

So given the plot, it seems pretty straight forward right? Well it would be if each issue wasn't told my a different narrative perspective. One of these should have been Mulan because she is now the Green Hornet but no instead everyone else gets to speak for her, not exactly the strong presence the Green Hornet requires. They're a lot of odd choices in this like for one panel after Mulan almost dies, one panel gives her a buzz cut since before and after she has a fringe, it only drives home that this was never really mapped out or planned.

This could have been a wonderful exploration of a female taking on a legacy, that had previous been held by a man. With a strong character driven story but we got a mess that had to explain in great depth everything that happened throughout the five issues to make any sense. It still doesn't how can someone be an active hero before they've even been a hero, see how confusing that sentence is. Some guy is a hero 5 months ago but he's only been a hero for a few days, he didn't retire he only put the costume on a few days ago there was no legacy it's just a mess.

I would also like to say I hate how they tackled Britt Reid Jr in this, they basically drag him through the mud. It was his fault that Mulan disappear for 9 months, not telling her that she wasn't dead. Then proceeding to blame him for cheating on her, he thought you were dead for 9 months. You didn't tell him or give him any signs, you weren't in a coma so he grieved for you then moved on but no because he moved on it's his fault. What nonsense is that, there is also the fact it straight up says he never wanted to be the Green Hornet, we just had 42 issues, 6 graphic novels half of them taking on fake Green Hornets, to ensure that his fathers legacy now his is not tarnished but yeah of course he never really cared. Only risked his life a few times, no sweat.

Aside from that you have Kato Sr being the head of the sentinel, because it was established early on he likes working in the shadows, what best place to be than in the limelight. Clutch can now speak another language and has bros worldwide great, he's now got brown hair as well. The Katos don't even look Asian and Mulan had a massive breast reduction. Sigh screw this comic, even without the run that came before, this is an incoherent mess.

I've been a sucker for the Green Hornet since I saw Bruce Lee as Kato on the TV show. Over the years I have explored GH's history and back story and found out he is related to one of by boyhood TV heroes, The Lone Ranger. I also collected various iterations of the character in comics. This incarnation has a change, from the old to the new. The action and adventure is there, but the story has substance. A perfect jumping on point for new readers. Not too heavy on the past but respectful of it. Fans of the old TV shows will like it as will new readers who never saw Lee terrify Burt Ward in the Batman crossover. From the boardrooms of a major newspaper in the USA to Turkey and Hong Kong. The Green Hornet and Kato unravel a conspiracy that has far reaching global repercussions. But the old certainties are gone and our heroes are not who you expect them to be.

So it's nigh on illegal anymore to write a Green Hornet tale without a masked villain and a
shocking' reveal every six year old could see coming?
