Since the dawn of time, dogs have been the number one source of joy in this world. This is a book about the very best of them.
Powerful dogs, mythical dogs, heroic dogs, talented dogs, literary dogs, dogs who have changed the course of history, and dogs who have set the internet ablaze.
Dogs, dogs, dogs, dogs, dogs, dogs, dogs.
From the deeply misunderstood Cerberus, the multi-headed hound of Hades, to Red Dog, Rin Tin Tin, Hachikō, and Duke — the thrice-elected mayor of Cormorant, Minnesota (who is an actual dog).
With words by Jadan Carroll and illustrations by Molly Dyson, (Definitely) The Best Dogs of All Time will tell heart-warming, absurd, and informative stories of the most exceptional hounds to have bounded across the earth, their majestic tongues flowing in the breeze, and of the humans who love them.
A cute short book on some famous dogs and some should have been famous dogs. Dogs from history, myths and dogs that are making history in our time. The illustrations are bright and colorful and give a good feel of the individual story. These are just brief recaps of why the dog is famous, which makes it a perfect coffee table book or a gift book. I liked the story about my dog's namesake the best. :D
This book is more the type of book you would gift someone, more for the fun and laughs rather than for the actual content. It is a very entertaining book about the different dogs in history, and it was a very light and enjoyable read for me! The illustrations are rather cute and complement the stories well. My only complaint is probably how some dogs have much shorter stories than others and I think the author could have made more of an effort to write more about them. Other than that, this book would be a great gift / read for dog lovers or someone who just needs a cheering up!
(Definitely) The Best Dogs of All Time is definitely a book to add to your list (especially if you’re a dog lover). This short book explores many of the great dogs of history, some mythical and some real. Each of the dogs has earned their place on this author’s list, standing as legends in their particular culture.
While not much information is given on the various canines, we do learn a bit about their history and what it was that made them great.
As someone who typically stays immersed in fiction, I was quite surprised at how much I enjoyed Carroll’s retelling of these famous stories. And if the content itself is not enough to pique your interest, there are plenty of lovely illustrations to look at along the way. While there were plenty of famous hounds I recognized, there were also many that I had never heard of. This is a short and simple read, and that is the beauty of it. As someone with an ever-growing TBR pile, this book was easy to finish in one sitting and I enjoyed every minute of it.
The book features 42 furry, bald, cuddly and fluffy four-legged friends, and is ideal for anyone who wants to delve into the relationship between humans and dogs. Canines in the book vary in breed, size and nature, with Carroll explaining how each dog embodies the best of human nature. Herald Sun
Carroll writes about a selection of dogs with great affection and wit, accompanied by Molly Dyson’s wonderful artworks. Daily Telegraph
Captivating, and often moving … [A] gently humorous book, with stylishly lush illustrations by Molly Dyson … Sometimes, if I’m lucky, a dog will attach itself to me, accompanying me for a few metres, before its owner calls it back. It is impossible to finish this walk without a huge smile on your face. The same is true of reading Carroll. Shelley Gare
A jolly little hardback. Stephen Romei, Weekend Australian
No rhyme or reason to which dog chosen, but since the author thinks dogs are grand any would do. But the ones he picks are of legend, US Navy, of a dog park, pampered royalty and even a mayor. A real pick of the litter kind of book!
Great hostess gift or a little "stocking stuffer" or secret Santa gift.
This book was fantastic - i sorta resent that the author doesn't have a dog/has never shared his life with a dog, and there were a few dog fact errors that i found in the book but i won't hold that against it because i'm kinda extra about dogs. i actually was introduced to dogs in this book that I had never heard of and the art is gorgeous. i'm glad to have this book on my shelf
