This full-length novel is intended for mature audiences.
Gen Géricault is a USA Today bestselling author. She grew up on ghost stories, iced tea, and her granny's peach cobbler. She called the historic city of Savannah home for most of her life, but she now lives abroad.
Her stories explore love, longing, and the tangled truths behind the things that go bump in the night.
As the blurb gives a good set up to the story, I will not be rehashing it in my review.
This book is labeled as a bear shifter romance. While that is true, it's so much more! It's not just a shifter story, it's full on paranormal as it has witches and magic weaved through the heart of the story as well.
Finally a full length pnr book that isn't $4.99 or more. And it was good! I was very impressed and pleased by this book. It's a first in a series (the others have not been released yet). The author put a unique twist on this family full of shifters. Of course there are fated mates (thank you) and some cheesy bear puns (it seems be unavoidable, but at least these didn't annoy me), but it's the centuries old mystery/curse that has the story flowing effortlessly and keeps the reader engaged.
I'm looking forward to the other books in the series! I need to know what happens next with the other brothers, their mates, and the curse!
Rite of Spring is an absolutely addictive smokin' hot, action-packed suspenseful paranormal romance that kept me up all night reading and turning pages as fast as I could. The plot keeps U on the edge of UR seat wondering what's going to happen next!
Gorgeous Grizzly bear shifter Houston Afters is under a dark curse and only his true mate can save him. He has just about given up when he meets Hope a sweet feisty little Goldilocks she is his and he will do anything to claim her but something evil is lurking in the shadows!
Houston & Hope totally stole my heart with sizzlin' chemistry and lol funny banter!!! I Ordered book 2 End of Summer before I was even finished reading can't wait to sink my teeth into more of this awesome series! Gen Géricault 5 Sexy Stars all the way!!!

When she listens to her instincts she goes off track to a bed and breakfast while there she asks about some attractions and the owner tells her of the Apple orchard. Houston is one of four quadruplets. Sadly they are cursed only being awake different three months each. The only way to break the curse is to be mated. So when hope comes along when Houston only has 3 days left. Can she break the spell??? Must read..
One of the most original plot lines that I have read in ages. All the Ever After books have been amazing, sad that Ms. Gericault was not able to finish the series.
Title: Winter Solstice Book 0.5 Rite of Spring Book 1 Series: Ever Afters Author: Gen Géricault Reviewer: Ingrid Stephanie Jordan Genre: #PRN #BearShifters #Witch My Score: #5Stars☆☆☆☆☆ ♡•°•♡•°•♡•°•♡•°•♡•°•♡•°•♡•°•♡•°•♡ My Goodness I started reading this and boy oh boy I loved it. The characters are remarkable together. Ms. Gen just flows through each page. I don't know why Book 0.5 is at the end of this book but I read it first. Book 0.5 Clementine Weatherspoon is a Good Witch coming from a family that were evil. But Clementine tried to make up for the evilness with her goodness. Than the unexpected happened. But things started to become creepy and Dodger was on edge, she didn't see anything but she felt like she was being watched. A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion.
This is the first book in the Ever Afters Series. I loved this book. I loved the story line which is very original and I loved how the characters develop throughout the book. Like how Houston hates witches and doesn’t want to have anything to do with Clementine but by the end of the book is defending her to everybody that is mean to her. I loved the chemistry between Houston and Hope. This book was so entertaining that I couldn’t put it down and read it in one sitting. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series about Braxton. Thanks Gen for an awesome new series to read. I received this free book in exchange for an honest review. The Afters Brothers Are Cursed. *Gah* This book had me at the prequel (Winters Solstice) and I thoroughly enjoyed every page!!! It was like an episode of Buffy, without the slayer, vamps and the Scooby gang.....haha......so maybe not too much like the characters?? But the essence?? It had the action, shifters, BAMF spirits, some lovin', a Willow-esque witch and plenty of salt , " originals" history (just squealed a little over this bit - I do love me some research) and a mother of all curses!!!
I must admit "suspense" is not my usual type of read, but the blurb was too intriguing and although the timeline is initially 3-days, it packs a punch and manages to roll through a well developed plot and characters and the page count allowed this - whoop!
I became fully invested in the characters. There was plenty of banter and some god- awful jokes, but the relationships didn't seem patchy, even the insta-love of fated mates between Hope and her Werewookie was acceptable!! I adored Vangie, the ever protective baby sister looking after her dum-dum brothers as they sleep....and the stoic Clementine, still needing to find the key to it all, but is it for penance or love???
It ends on a strong and maybe a tad sappy HFN, but leaves me desperately wanting Braxton's story......because, ultimately, it just gets me closer to when Clementine can save Clayton!!!
THis did have a bit of a slow burn to start, but once we were off and running it was a great story. Hunky bear shifters with a Rip Van Winkle like curse - what's not to love!!!
Hope is still reeling from the recent death of her father and decides to hike a trail they had intended to walk together. With her dads dog for company she's making great time but she soon fears someone is watching her, she keeps getting these vibes which set her skin on edge.
Houston is a bear shifter, one of 4 brothers and a sister. The brothers were all cursed by a witch and now they all awaken for only one season at a time, and never together. Poor Vangie is left to hold down the fort at the farm and fill them in when they wake up. But when he smells a heavenly scent and stumbles across Hope, he managed to rescue her from the shadow which had been terrorising her!
The sexual tension between these too is combustible!!! But they are also sweet, sexy and snarky! Will they find out they have a common enemy or history? Will they be able to crack the curse of the Afters?
I cannot wait to read the rest of the brothers stories, and I do hope Vangie gets her own HEA cos she so deserves it after all she's been through caring for these dumdum brothers of hers LOL
I have to confess that for the first couple of chapters in the book, I thought things were a bit slow, but I am happy to say things did pick up and get downright interesting after chapter 2. I really liked Hope and Houston. Houston is a sexy bear shifter who happens to find his mate, hiking up Appalachian Trail. He protects her from the shadow that is intent on doing her harm. Sparks fly hard and fast with these two and the sexual tension was HIGH! The story is chalk full of awesome with paranormal twists and magic around every corner.
This is a interesting and sexy paranormal delight! Once we get past the first couple of chapters, things pick up and soon the world Hope finds herself entering is both magical and amazing. Houston made one hell of a great hero and I am interested to see where else this series will take us in future books.
Rite Of Spring got a SPLENDID FOUR SHOOTING STARS! Its full of surprises, mystery, hot sex, and fantastic characters.
I like the series so far, including the short story/novella that comes before this one. I think you should definitely start out with that one as it introduces characters and situations it's good to know about for this one.
The reason I have only three stars is a matter of timing. The author insists on all the action taking place within just two or three days, and it's just too much. For me, having an urgent deadline so soon makes the budding romance happen way too fast.
If the timeline was just two weeks, the tension would build up better, and the "will she/won't she?" would be more satisfying. And maybe it's just been used to much, but insta-love as a plot device just does not work for me, even in fantasy fiction. It's not satisfying.
The history of the family, the mythological creatures, the connection to witches and magic are all excellent. I wanted to stay with Clementine and do research rather than witnessing the main characters' romance and sex scenes. Clementine is the reason I'm staying with the series.
Rite of Spring is the first book of this wonderfully addictive and exciting series. The prequel "Winter Solstice" had won my heart already, and this book just reinforced my love for the characters. I feel so much fondness for them that my heart actually aches. It really took such a short time for me to fall in love with both of the lead characters, Farm Boy and Hiker Girl as they so affectionately call each other. Their chemistry is through the roof, their banter is hilarious, and their love and devotion for each other is so heart-warming, you will find yourself rooting for these two with all your heart, and you will be super curious about the whole mystery of the story which is so thoughtfully created and artfully written. You will also find yourself unable to drop this book, and SO excited about the next one, because you will not be able to get enough of this series and the Afters brothers. REALLY.
Hope Hemmington is hiking the Appalachian Trail, something she and her father were going to do together. After months on the trail she decides to spend the night at Harpers Ferry. She decides to get a meal and explore. The proprietor of the B&B recommends a trip to Ever Afters, Hope and her dog, Dodger, start the three mile trek to the orchards. They are almost at their distination when Hope feels that someone, or something is watching her and is terrified. Fortunately, Houston Afters, one of four cursed brothers and a bear shifters, scents her fear and runs to her rescue. Wow! Magic, shifters, witches good and bad, an exciting and suspenseful book. Fantastic, I loved this book and look forward to the next book in this series!
I received this ARC free from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I was given an ARC of this book for an honest review
I absolutely loved this book. I was lucky enough to read the first book in this series in the anthology shifters in the snow and just HAD to continue on. Gen is an amazing author she pulls you in from the start and hang on because it is a wild ride
Houston is the alpha of the family of 5 bears a sister and a set of Quadruples that have been cursed. Hope is fulfilling the hike of the Appalachian trail that her late father and her had planned when she gets close to Harkers Ferry something in the woods is stalking her, she leaves the trail and her life is changed in ways she would have never imagined. I have to say I absolutely love the way Vee, Hope, Clementine, and Houston interact with each other, I laughed I cried just such a great book.
I am anxiously awaiting Summer the next book in the series, Braxtons book.
Contemporary paranormal. This is the first book in the series.
We met the Afters brothers in a short story in the "Shifters In The Snow" anthology. They are 4 quadruplet bear shifters who have been cursed by an evil witch. They sleep for 9 months a year, except for the season that is "theirs". Houston has Spring. After 10 years, he must find his true mate or sleep forever.
I have been trying out some new authors & found it's really hard to find a decent shifter writer. Most write mediocre fan fic. GG is really good! She's taken this story & given it nuance & layers. What should be a straightforward story - Hou finds his mate & HEA, becomes something else all together. We find dark plots & a sordid history of shifters & witches. It turns into a story I looked forward to. I can't wait for the next book!
A superb read. This was a really good story full of tension, weirdness, family and humour through adversity. I loved the way this is all pulling together and Clementine is an integral part of it. Hope was wonderful and lived up to her name. Houston is the Alpha of the Afters sleuth and the oldest of the quadruplets. What has been done to the family is terrible and we learn a bit more in this book. We get to interact with Vangie more which was lovely. Except for Houston's testosterone stupidity in the barn, it was a really griping read. I understand why he did it, but he was warned what it was after and yet he broke the salt circle because of the threat to his mate. No win situation really. Cannot wait to get into book 2.
There's just nothing strong enough to say how good this book was. I read a short story in the Shifters in the Snow collection that got it started and I got so involved I quit reading the collection because I had to read more of this series. Now I'm on to book 2.
This is a great read. Awesome story line. Great characters. fluid dialogue. Details described nicely.
Written as a multi pov. I loved the characters . They were so well written . I cannot wait to read more of this series .
There was so much depth to the story. There was Heartache and heartbreak , deception, redemption , and of course a HEA for these characters but the story doesn't end here .
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this story, and was pulled in from the very beginning. Houston and Hope are an adorable couple, and are the perfect match for each other. I really enjoyed seeing them get to know each other, and get their HEA. I'm looking forward to seeing Houston's brothers, and hopefully his sister as well, get their own stories and HEAs in the future!
Msg Gericault did an amazing job in writing "Rite of Spring". Outstanding story line with main characters (Hope and Houston) that you root for. Love the way Houston explained how shifters work and how the mating ritual effects them. First time I have ever read it in a book. Well worth your effort to read the book. Hope book two is as good.
I like a good shifter story but have reconciled to the fact that many of them have a good story but the writing is not that good but here I didn't have to compromise...yay!
The writing was so good, the edit was clean and the story was original and engaging ...wow. my new favorite shifter author by far. I highly recommend.
What a great book. I couldn't put it down. Read it in one night and can't wait to read the rest of the series. Romance, mystery and intrigue all rolled into one amazing book. I'm a fan of Gen Gericault for sure. I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.
I gave this book four stars because it made me smile. I like the fact that at least one brother got to see the other brother after ten years. I liked that Red was there to help and that Hope took the bite. I just wonder will Red every have her happy ending.
Storyline is compelling. Characters are unexpected and believable. Magical. Bear meets Witch, true mates. Curses, magic, Love, misunderstanding. Can't wait to read the rest of the series.
I really enjoyed reading this book. I don't think I've read any other books by this author, but I'm definitely a fan now. This is definitely a must read. Can't wait to start the next one, I've already downloaded it.
