Clarke has had a rough week. His girlfriend told him it was over, his drug dealer is trying to kill him, and he's being followed by that nasty bird everywhere he goes. Now he's hell bent on settling the score and teaching every last one of them that he's not a man to be taken lightly... especially the beady-eyed pigeon that has taken more from him than his pride. Lennon & Motz bring you an exciting, horrific, fast-paced story, packed with violence, gore, mutilation... and angry birds! No one is safe and nothing goes unseen beneath the watchful eye of The Pigeon.

Don't let this rather vague-looking cover trick you into thinking this is not a full-fledged horror story. THE PIGEON is not some little psychological tale with a talking bird or poetry like an Edgar Allan Poe story. And it's not some fancy literary fiction either. It's an in-your-face, fast paced, gory, twisty-turny little novella that might even make you laugh at times. How much fun is that? A lot! It's a LOT of fun.
When Andrew Lennon asked me if I could review this book last fall I think it was, I said sure without really knowing what I was getting myself into. If I had known it was this short, I probably would have tried to squeeze it in even sooner.
A young lady hates her job and is being stalked by her ex-boyfriend. He shows up at her house and things just go downhill from there. Fast! There's no way I can get across to you how surprised I was at nearly every turn this story took. And it's because of the fact that I want you to be surprised too, that I'm not going to go further into the plot.
If you like your horror unpredictable, bloody and gory, with a sense of humor on the side? THE PIGEON is for you!
Man, oh man. Clarke is the type of guy I could really dig...a grave for! He is our main focus, as he parades around, killing person after person (Mostly women), and living a very sadistic and violent life. You dislike him immensely from his initial interactions with Lauren, and it just deepens as he takes on Tracy and Greg, along with the multitude of other victims. Now I really enjoyed the animosity that grew between this strained, married couple, and wanted a lot more from it. Greg has a decent introduction, but it just felt like he was we went from him being an avoidant, alcoholic, inadequate spouse to someone willing to kill his wife, very quickly. I'm not saying it was a bad plot point, but I wanted some more lead up, showing his strife and his marital issues with Tracy, and then bringing in Clarke to do the dirty work. I also feel like the children could have been used in a much more substantial role, instead of being delegated as pawns between the husband and wife, only getting brief references as the story went on. But the pigeon was wonderful as sort of the albatross around Clarke's neck, and his psychosis and acts of bloodlust were wonderful. Well, maybe wonderful isn't a good word...let's say satisfying? No, that doesn't work, either. Well-written? Yeah, let's use that. So, while far from being a perfect story, this was still a very entertaining experience that will appeal to horror fans and thriller fans alike.
This one was another pick from the BoH indie brawl list of contenders and it turned out to be something of a wild card for me since I really wasn't sold on Lennon's writing style based on his entry from last year (A Life to Waste).
I can recognize his gruesome imagery but there's more charm and fun here. The story was snappy, wild, and fast-paced with just the right amount of chaos. The beginning had my blood boiling, and I was immediately hooked, then the authors threw me a curve ball with a scene that almost made me choke trying not to ugly cackle. There's absolutely no down time between the wild things that keep happening and it made for a highly entertaining read.
It's worth the read even if just for the first couple of chapters.
Another Great!! I just love Andrew Lennon's books and The Pigeon didn't disappoint!! The details of gore send shivers down your spine!! At one point in the story I had to put the book down, take a breather and then get back to it. Well written, fully engaging and a very cringe worthy experience!!
I've recently been having a lot of trouble choosing what books to read. I've decided to allow fate to choose for me and that's what brought me to reading this book. I was walking in a snow storm to my friend Shirleen's house. It's been bitter cold. In the negative degrees outside. So, my nose was starting to feel like it might fall off. I couldn't feel my feet. Plows had made giant snow mounds everywhere. It was a freezing wasteland outside. I trip and fall in the snow and twist my ankle. Surely, I will freeze and die here. No one will come out and see me laying here because its -85°F. Im shivering and thinking back on life. All the things I've done. All the things I should have done. Then I hear a fluttering. It must be an angel, coming to take me away. I close my eyes, embracing the inevitable when I hear a weird, guttural coo. Pidgey, the neighborhood flying rat (whom maybe I've befriended), is sitting on the snow mound just looking at me. In his tiny talons, he's managed to grip and carry THIS exact book. He chucks it toward me, which makes me flail and roll away to avoid being hit with it. I then realized that I am not immobile, as I once suspected and can, in fact, walk. Pidge and I walked the rest of the way to Shirleen's where I gave him some seeds for his trouble.
This book was a joy to read and I couldn't put it down. Action packed, funny, original. I read it in one sitting after Shirleen stopped gabbing about her boyfriend drama. I would 100% recommend it.
These two horror authors get together to write a story and what you get is a chilling, excruciating journey of a psychopath's meltdown after being rejected and maimed by an ex-girlfriend. Oh yeah, there's also this matter of a certain pigeon who is really getting on the psycho's nerves. I recommend this book to anyone who loves graphic, bloody horror at it's best. NOT FOR PEOPLE WITH WEAK STOMACHS! I really hope Lennon and Motz team up together again to give us more great reads.
This book was awesome and violent with lots of gore. It wasn't used just to shock but made the story that much darker. And if course in my messed up mind I'm sucker than the guys who wrote this for laughing and looking forward to the violent scenes.
This book is a gore fest, I mean serious blood and guts to the extreme. You could read the pleasure the authors found in writing those parts, and in some ways the story felt constructed round those parts. Sometimes it was so extreme it almost felt humourous. I didn't mind it, although I did feel there was a certain level of women hating going on - but then it was counterbalanced by the men not really getting away with much either.
The story jumped about between three characters, and the pigeon was sort of a background figment that taunted the main character. The events weren't particularly believable, and the characters weren't as developed or rounded as they could have been. I felt what let this book down was that it needed a good edit. Not in terms of simple typos, of which there weren't any, but in terms of miswording, grammar, inconsistencies in storyline and movement in scenes, headhopping, and the layout of the book, all of which detracted from what could have been a plausible murder rampage rather than an unbelievable one.
The style of writing flowed as did pacing, and I was compelled enough to keep reading and turning the page so if you fancy a gore fest of murder, then give it a shot. But as an editor I felt that this was an example of where self-published authors rushed to publish, and/or needed to hone their story/skill.
Well, it was fast paced, fun and gory. Ever want a book where you hate all the characters, Lennon and Motz got your back. Some of the twists, I did not see coming, which is always good. Actually, there is one character you can root for, The Pigeon :)
Lots of gore! While I appreciated that aspect of the book, I did not love the story. Too much inconsistency. But, if you're looking to read some cringe worthy descriptions of mutilation, here ya go! 😂
