She made me a better man, but I still wasn’t good enough to keep her.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, with sleeve tattoos, ripped muscle and a cold-hearted stare, I am who I am.  The bad boy she knew to stay away from.

I knew we were never supposed to last.  But the way her lips tasted, the way her curves felt under my hands…  I couldn’t let go. I did everything I could to keep her.

I put on a ring on her finger and straightened out my life.  All for her.

I should’ve known better.

One mistake tore us apart and I don’t know what I can do to salvage what we once had.

I knew it wasn’t supposed to last, but if I could make her stay with me once...  I can do it again.

Watch me. I love my sweetheart; I’m not losing her again.

Willow started writing after having her little girl, Evie, December 2015. All during her pregnancy with Evie she continued to read and she only wanted to read romance. She was reading a book a day — sometimes two.

In January 2016 Willow was staying up late with Evie and just thinking of all these stories. They came to her constantly so she finally sat down and just started writing. She always wanted to do it so she figured, why not? Today Willow cannot be happier for making that decision!

Willow Winters just Damaged and Scarred my heart. But guess what...I loved every moment of it!! Gah! Evan and Kat's story is her best yet! The angst, the drama. The mystery, the danger. I. Could. Not. Get. Enough! I can't wait to devour the entire series! I hope Jake’s story is in the line-up soon. I fell in love with him!

I learned a couple things while reading Scarred.
1. Willow Winters is a dealer. Angst junkies! Line up now for your next fix.
2. Mason is still the shit! If you haven't read Imperfect and Unforgiven, get them now. He’s fucking awesome and can lock me in room anytime! 😭😍
3. When you're on page 2 of a book and already passed out, shit is about to get real.

4. I really am a drama-whore. Hmmm….who knew!

So…about the book. The story picks up exactly where Book 1 left off and we find Evan in the middle of the biggest mess ever. I won’t go into details since I don’t want to spoil the story, but if you read book 1, you’ll be pleased. The central theme overall is how much is too much? Both main characters face their own trials and tribulations and have the reader guessing throughout, “what on earth is going to happen?” I was on the edge of my seat and couldn’t flip the pages fast enough.

Very well written and positively my new favorite by Willow Winters! The cover is sexy, the plot is exceptional, and the writing is solid! It’s a winner!

Recommended for readers who enjoy a dash of angst and heavy dose of intrigue with their romance.

descriptionYESH...this one was as exhausting as the first book and I honestly am not sure how I feel about it. I read both books back to back like a mad woman, so I guess that means I did like them. *lol* The two main characters though...ugh. They both annoyed me to no end, and I again spent the majority of the book wanting to smack them upside their heads.

description

With that said, this one had the same excellent writing. The pace moved along quite quickly. The plot was engaging and kept me turning the pages (but I did figure out the twist early on.) Again as with this first book, it wasn't heavy on the sex, but I didn't miss it. The same secondary characters pop up in this one (thankfully the friend were less annoying) along with Mason (the hero from the first duet). We again have some OW/OM drama. Unfortunately, one of the things or rather the "who" that turned me off the hero in book one plays a significant role in this one which served to keep reminding me of his past indiscretions, and that is partially to blame for why I just never warmed up to Evan. On the other hand, I welcomed the OM drama, and I am going to whisper this quietly...I kind of wish Ya, sorry, but after all the lies Evan told and continued to tell Kat, she deserved to move on with someone better.

description

The major miss for me in this duet was Evan himself. The author never redeemed him in my eyes. He and kept it quiet for years. He lied continually. He put himself in bad situations over and over again. He made bad decisions over and over again. He just came across weak to me. Kat, on the other hand, I did like slightly more, but she kept taking Evan back way too easily and allowing him to treat her like crap over and over again. Honestly, the only way I could be convinced these two would make it for the long haul was if the author had written that they were both in counseling separately and together...serious counseling!

So yea, like I said the author did pull me into both books and I couldn't put them down and even not loving the main characters I still found myself engaged and curious to see where this was heading. Therefore this one is also getting two thumbs up from yours truly. Bring on the next duet...description

SCARRED is LIVE!

OMGosh!! I am so excited!!! The emotional conclusion to Evan & Kat's story is now live!

While Scarred can be read as a standalone it is advised to read Damaged (book 1 in the duet) first.

What I like about this book...it’s about an existing couple. A marriage. It’s about keeping a marriage together, fighting for each other even in the face of extreme adversity. It’s different from other books out there in this way and that makes it a refreshing, albeit gut clawing, read. You can read this on its own, but it’s just not the same if you don’t read Damaged first. Like these characters, the books can stand on their own but they’re better together. Read it and be prepared for a book hangover. Got this as an early version and this is my true and honest thoughts.

If you thought reading Damaged was hard then brace yourselves because you are not prepared. I was waiting to see how Evan and Kat's story played out and GOD OH GOD it turned out to be more emotional, raw and heartfelt than I thought.

The whole mystery/suspense worked perfectly with the story. I am just happy Evan and Kat got their deserved HEA.

I can't wait to read more by Willow Winters.

The haunting poetry in these books makes it so hard not to become emotionally invested. (I totally was.)

Evan and Kat break before our very eyes and all we can do is hold on. Hold on to hope, hold on to love, and hold on to our hopelessly romantic hearts. It isn't easy.

So many things happen that will lead you astray. You will fight it. You will justify it. You will deny. But in the end, you will be content. Evan and Kat need this. Whether it's make or break, they need this time.

It hurts. Their hearts, my heart, and according to Willow Winters, her heart too. "You're the reason my heart is scarred." Powerful words that evoke so many different emotions. This book is almost like a room of fun house mirrors. Not in a weird and creepy way, but in the sense that there are so many ways of looking at something and never quite seeing it all. So many ways to feel a certain line out of context but in context it evokes a more substantial feeling. I'm not sure you are still reading this because most people think I am cuckoo but sometimes a book's "feels" speak to us more than the words.

As a reader, we judge books. We decide how we feel about them. But when books make us their puppets...those are my favorites. I love when the book leads you around and makes you follow their directions. Willow Winters is definitely my puppet master today.

This duet conclusion was everything I could have hoped for and more. The suspense and emotions were high throughout the entire story. Evan and Kat had my heart breaking right along with theirs as they both went through the pain of being apart and trying to decide what was best for themselves and each other. So many of the twists thrown in had me anxious to know what was really going on, what would happen next or just sad over what had just happened. But through all the ups and downs I experienced, the author managed to bring everything to a great conclusion.

This duet was a good introduction to Willow Winters books. It peaked my interest in reading more. I look forward to checking out the first duet in this series. Mason certainly made an impression and I feel like I need to know his story. I also hope there will be more of these duets to come. One of Kat's friends in particular is lingering in my mind and I will keep my fingers crossed that she has her own set of books coming.

As always Willow brings her duet to a wonderful end. Kat and Evan have had a long journey and deserve a happy ending. With this conclusion you start where the last one ended and jump into the fair of what is going on. Evan has a lot of explaining to do and Kat has a lot of emotions to deal with and a half ass husband is not cutting it.

These two characters are so beautiful and their story is wonderfully told. It also has a wonderful supporting cast, in Mason and Jules. And hopefully we will see what is going on with Suzette and her mystery man next.

Willow Winters has taken my all of my emotions, put them in a blender and turned them into a clustered mess of feels puree! I honestly could not be happier about it!

*Shivers with excitement* Folks this is the follow-up book to Damaged, one I had been highly anticipating! Eeek- Oh my, what tangled webs, Evan and Kat have woven themselves into and must begin to untangle to help understand one another's plights if they want to try to rebuild the connection that has been lost.
This beautifully heartbreaking story has had me so caught up in its maddening twists and surprising turns, the relatable characters had me tearing up with them, or on the other end of that spectrum, I wanted to shake them, bring them out of them out of their stubborn stance!
Either way, this hold close to the heart tale had me on the edge of my seat watching, silently rooting for Evan and Kat as they faced the off with the darkness that surrounds them who's threatens everything they hold dear.
SO. MUCH. EMOTIONAL.WRECKAGE. I loved every minute of this conclusion!
A spectacular must read!
Ms. Winters keeps upping the ante with each new book she gives us!
I look forward to seeing the next fictional getaway she has in store for us!

After the ending of Damaged left me with so many questions I couldn’t wait to get started with this book.

So we know that Kat and Evan’s marriage is in serious trouble but what had he done to put such strain on their relationship.

Evan although with the best of intentions completely alienated his wife at times so much so that I wanted to slap him silly at times. I really wanted Kat to show more of a backbone at times and not give into him so easily.

This was a story that kept me engaged throughout, it kept me guessing trying to negotiate my way through the clues and red herrings. It’s been quite a ride over the space of the two books.

I was so happy when this dropped in my kindle! I had been patienly waiting for this so I could see how everything was going to unfold between Evan and Kat.

This had as much if not more angst then Damaged, and I say that because at one point I thought all would be lost and there might be no hope for these two. In that regard this book had me on the edge of my seat. And God it had a couple really sad bits that just really get to you. *sheds tear*

All the drama and mystery behind Tony's murder unfolds, and woah plot twist! I felt so bad for Evan, he was really shook with the truth, and with good reason too.

Everything came out in the end and everything was worked out, both regarding the murder plot and the romance plot. I'm so happy that Evan and Kat worked everything out and actually talked about the whole mess whilst being honest with each other. Even if Evan isn't much the sharing his feelings type, he managed to do it anyway. However, in the end he couldn't help but sin one last time and keep one last secret. Even if the bastard deserved what he got. He was a bad boy through and through, but this time he was bad with good intentions and to protect his family.

Buried deep inside of me, he whispers, “Tell me you love me.” “Always,” the word slips out easily, my eyes still closed. I slowly open them to see Evan’s expression. I’m struck by the intensity of his gaze. The need, the desire, the possession. “Say the words,” he commands. “I’ll always love you,” I tell him softly, the words barely audible.

I loved reading this duet. It was different from what I'm used to reading but I really enjoyed it. Angst-y books always do it for me. I don't even question it anymore.

I'm excited to go back and read Jules and Mason's duet, and for the rest of the series!

"He’s got a spell over me. It must be some kind of dark magic because he makes me forget reason. He makes me forget how angry I am at him. I melt into him as if I was meant to be held by him from the very start. The worst part is that I don’t want him to ever let me go."

Scarred is the 4th book in the Sins and Secrets series, and the conclusion of the Damaged.

I felt more emotionally attached to the first part of this duet, Damaged. It was more angsty. Scarred basically continues with the same story, lies and more lies, miscommunication, hurting Kat, she being depressed...

In this part the truth finally comes out, because Evan is afraid he would lose Kat forever so he kinda had to confess what's happening and it turned out great because she was the key to resolving the biggest issue in the story.

They discovered that the truth is the only thing that keeps them together and makes them stronger.

“I’d rather die beside you than live without you.”

If you like mystery, angst, broody and sexy Alfa male like Evan then this is a book for you. It can be read as a standalone, but I recommend reading Damaged first.

Like always another great read by Willow.. I got lucky to read the ARC of this book.. I really enjoyed reading the end of Evan and Kat story.. It still pulled at my heart but not as bad as Damage. I really don't want to give to much away since it has not been released but you would want to read their end of their story.. I can't wait to see what Willow has next.. I love her books💖

After reading Damaged I couldn’t wait until I could read Scarred.
It did not disappoint!
I was so invested in Evan and Kat’s story.
I really liked Evan from bk. 1 and loved him in Scarred.
Very emotional book that had me in tears and pulling at my heart.
Ms. Winters not only delivered a great book but blow it out of the water!
Written perfectly with a twist that’s jaw dropping.
Great storyline and plot.
The characters are well developed and have depth to them.
They are likable and relatable.
Most marriages go through a rough patch,it may not be to the extent of what Kat and Evan are dealing but mistakes are made in marriages. Some come with more consequences than others.
How strong their love is and how great of a bond they have will determine what outcome they will have.

Scarred was one of the most interesting books that I have read by Ms. Winters. It was an emotional book that made me cry, which I don’t do very often. It tore at my heart strings, made me feel so much for both characters, Evan and Kat. Their marriage was falling apart but they still loved one another. They just didn’t know how to get it back to the way it used to be. So many mistakes but Evan refused to let the love of his life go. Kat still loved Evan but didn’t know to fix their situation either and was ready to give up, until she finally understood what was going on and together they worked on the problem and came up with a solution. With some help through a close friend things fell into place and luckily they were able to come together and rebuild their marriage. This book was such an awesome ❤️ story, and I highly recommend it to the readers. I did receive an advance copy, and it is well worth it.

In order to read this book, you must be emotionally fit.
Scarred is a serious rollercoaster of all senses and every emotion.
Marriage on the rocks.
Marriage on the brink.
Evan and Kat want to be together but a mountain of the things unsaid, lies, and human obstacles get in their way.
Evan's past has come back to haunt him in a major way.
Kat is playing with fire.
Both are drowning in their sorrow for each other, they yearn for each other, but when they speak every word comes out wrong.
When trouble comes for Evan, he backs away from Kat to keep her safe.
In turn, temptation circles Kat.
Which one will break first?

I enjoyed Evan and Kat's story, but I couldn't take Kat's internal dialogue! Stop flip flopping! Make a decision already and stand by it. Evan, stop lying!

Scarred was a very deep and dark love story, it had a very gritty feel to it as you read the story of Evan and Kat.
As I read through this book I soon realized that this was the 2nd part to Evan and Kat's love story, so I was definitely lost and confused about some things, but this did not prevent me from enjoying their story and being intrigued about how it would end.

Both Evan and Kat have made sacrifices in order to have their love stay strong, they are both fighters, and they both suffer severe losses but what captivated me was their love for each other and their fight to remain strong and loyal to one another.

I now want to read this series from the beginning and get the whole story of Evan and Kat put together.

Willow Winters did a great job of setting a tone and feel of desperation and intensity between Evan and Kat, you felt all of their struggles to remain true to on another.

Unlike most books, this is a story of a couple that have been married for years, they’ve grown together and know each other well, or so Kat Thompson thought in Damaged, the first book in this duet and one that you need to read before Scarred.
Scarred is the conclusion to this heart-wrenching, emotional roller coaster of a duet. It’s hard not to get overly invested in Willow’s stories, even when you know they’re going to end in a cliffhanger with the first book, but I did just that with Kat and Evan’s story in Damaged so Scarred had a lot to live up to. I’m glad to say it did, with added extra.
This one was even more emotional, Kat has a lot to deal with, and even though she loves Evan deeply, she’s hurting and just feels like she needs to let him go. Evan’s not on the same page and is determined to fight her, to get them back to a good place and start again.
He’s made mistakes, he knows that, but his love for Kat is all consuming and he can’t give up.That’s what I loved most about the story, his willingness not to surrender to fate. This was a gritty, angsty and passionate story, they had a ton of stuff to battle through to reach the end.
Did they make it out intact?
Is their marriage over for good?
Or has the Damage been done, leaving them forever Scarred?

This book was an emotional roller coaster. Evan & Kat belong together but secrets are destroying their marriage. Evan, ugh where to I begin, you want to like him but his lies and how much he is hurting Kat drove me insane but I get where he is coming from to keep her safe. Kat, she loves Evan with everything she has and it’s just heartbreaking to read what she is going through. Evan will do anything to keep his wife but will she be tempted by the sweet talking Jake? Interesting story that will definitely have you reading in one sitting.

This is the second part and the conclusion to Kat and Evans story. It will definitely leave you and emotional mess from beginning til end. Everything he does is to protect her but just goes about it the wrong way. She loves him so much and just wishes he'd tell her what's going on the help him. My heart really broke for these two and everything they had to go through. There was a twist that made the betrayal even more shocking. Truly an amazing book that you can not put down. Scarred is the fourth book in the Sins & Secrets series, but is the sequel to book #3, Damaged, and should be read after that.

*Possible Spoilers throughout if you haven’t read Damaged*
I was super excited for this book and it did not disappoint… for the most part.

More of the plot is focused on the police investigation into Tony’s death than in Damaged. It moved steadily and was interesting, but by the 35% mark, I figured out who the killer was and my frustration with Evan’s short-sightedness just increased every chapter after that. (Can’t go into specifics without spoilers, sorry.)

I love angsty romance, and Damaged is a Mount Everest of angst, so I was giddily prepared for the yelling, the slapping, the jealousy, the angry make-up sex - but I wasn’t prepared for the shitshow that was Evan’s and Kat’s ability to communicate with each other. I understood it in the first book, but the more I learned about Evan’s problems, the more I pulled my hair and thought, ‘Good God that is the stupidest idea I’ve ever heard’, and after a while, it surpassed exciting into frustrating.

Kat keeps her backbone in Scarred and even manages to bite back a little (although it borderlines into crazy territory after a bit), but by the last confrontation, I didn’t see enough growth and enlightenment from Evan to justify her forgiveness. Really, all Evan did was listen to what Mason told him to do. I wanted him to think for himself and stop acting like such a dunce.

The book didn’t really go the way I wanted it to go, but it was still great and Damaged was so amazing that I’d reread it again just for that.

This book certainly has the wow factor. My emotions were all over the place reading this book but in a good way, I must add!
It was refreshing to read a story about a couple already in a marriage rather than a couple just meeting and starting out. I think for me that was what had me gripped from the beginning.
It also wasn’t all rainbows and sunshine which I found quite refreshing.
I had a soft spot for Evan. He got caught up in some bad stuff and could come across as cold hearted but his love for Kat was real. I do also love a bad tattooed male lead!
My heart broke for Kat. With every chapter she faced the battle of heart over head and at times I genuinely could have cried for her.
The writing style was perfect for the story, it flowed great and really expressed the characters feelings to the reader.

What more is there to say about Willow Winters that is not obvious when reading her books. Her literary genius and her creative mind surprises you every single time. When a book touches you right down to your soul, to your core at the first few paragraphs, you know that you are in for an epic adventure. And epic is the journey through Scarred. I read this book three times before submitting my review because it was that good.

When you can read a book in one setting twice, still be thinking about it days later and planning to read it again, you know that this book is not only good. It's "freaking" awesome. As a passionate and avid reader, I enjoy almost any type of books. However, what I enjoy the most, seek out, is to be touched as deeply as possible by a book and establish a connection with the characters. For the book to leave me kind of perplexed, second guessing what I previously taught as facts or what I've come to view as acceptable, normal. Scarred did more than that. It shook me to my core. When I finished reading it, it's like I went on a rollercoaster ride through the different intricacies of raw passion and pure sexe. The story is so well written and the characters so well developed that you are engrossed in this book from the beginning and you can't put it down until you're done reading. It is by far one of the best book that I have read in a long time. What I really like about this book is how beautifully Willow Winters brought to life, in vivid and poignant words; an intense, heart pounding, second chance romance story.

This is a dark and twisted love story, with a lot of twists and turns that you can't begin to imagine. It's full of unconditional love based on a past shared experience, one that has broken their hearts and souls but that themselves can mend, and subsequently heal each other.

Scarred is Kat and Evan's journey through life but most importantly to each other. You will particularly like how strong Kat and Evan evolved to be and how they remained true to each other. So many factors could have ruined their relationship but they fought with all their might and endured a lot for a relationship that blossomed into a fairytale kind of love.

Pick up your copy today. You will hate yourself if you don't.

Scarred picks up right where Damaged left off and I just wasn't sure how much more hurt my heart could take. I just couldn't get enough though. I had to ride out this emotional journey. This journey that had me sitting at the edge of my seat. This journey that had my heart pounding. This journey that had me so captivated I read it in one sitting. This journey that had my heart yearning for an all consuming love the way Evan and Kat had for each other. More Lies. Betrayal. Deceit. Love......... Willow Winters delivers a phenomenal story and by far the most powerful and all consuming love story I've read all year!!!

GOOD GOSH! I don't even think my words can do this book or this author justice. Evan and Kat's story needs to be read. It needs to be experienced. It needs to be felt. These characters are almost so real it's scary. While the author delivers an exceptional story line, I think it was the characters that really pulled me in. Willow Winters with her talented writing was able to evoke so many emotions from me. I'm not sure how many times I cried but I just felt...... everything! I cried tears of sadness, tears of anger, tears of pure agony and hurt, I cried tears of joy. This book was just absolutely PERFECTION in EVERY way!

Definitely worthy of a re-read and I highly recommend reading Evan and Kat's journey. Willow Winters certainly did not disappoint. The suspense and every little twist and turn was so perfectly planned out. Evan's determination and protectiveness just added to his appeal and made him all the more sexy. I'd look past all the lies and betrayal too if I had a man that loved me half as fiercely as Evan loved Kat. The love this man had for his wife was just so damn beautiful.

I could probably go on and on about this beautiful and emotional love story but at the end of the day it was just fucking BRILLIANT! Pure GENIUS! This is the epitome of how a romantic suspense story should be written. A story that leaves you guessing. A story that has you glued to the pages. A story that has a solid plot. A story that has twist and turns. A story that has amazing characters. And a story that has a love so epic it takes your breath away. Willow Winters delivers and she fucking nailed it!!

This book picks up where we left off in Damaged , Evan behind bars and Kat learning that she's pregnant and alone. In some ways, it felt like I was in the middle of a superhero tale - where the selfless hero denies his love in order to protect her from the evil-doers who will harm her if they know it will torture the un-hurtable super.

In this case however, they're all just flesh and blood humans. And the bad guys already know that Kat is Evan's weak spot - separated or not. This was one of my main nits with this book. Subverted somewhat by the protection she was given at several times in the story, but IMO, not quite enough for my tastes.

Kat and Evan kept doing the same dance throughout. Evan can't stay away, Kat keeps giving in. And I use "giving in" for a reason. I really wanted her to have more backbone. I was also pretty peeved at her for some other stuff that happened, because wishy-washy much?

I'm not saying the book isn't good, because it is. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it, but at times it was frustrating. I don't mind red herrings, character dances, lies for safety sake, and secret love-fests, I just wish these two books were condensed into one - or there was a little less of the push/pull keep-away dance.

On the bright side, and yes there is one, I love Willow Winters' work, and her writing is what brings me back for more.

I give this one 3 "instances of stumbling onto evidence" stars

Scarred picks up where Damaged left us, a heart broken Kat and lost Evan. Evan is determined to get to the bottom of who is trying to frame him for murder, but in the process he has to distance himself from the love of his life, his soul mate, his everything, Kat. It's easier said than done. All he wants is to wrap himself up in Kat and forget the world, but the nightmares that torture him every night of Kat dead, laying in her own pool of blood because of him is enough to keep him away.
Kat is done, so she says. She has had enough of Evan's games but as much as she says it is over, all she longs is for her husband back. Lonely, Kat turns to another man for comfort even though she knows it is wrong. Although this man makes her feel desired and wanted, she just can't get Evan out of her mind. She doesn't understand how Evan has thrown her away even after he claims to love her and thrilled about the child she is carrying. She starts to blame herself for pushing him away.
Evan can't take being apart from Kat and finally tells her why he has been staying away? Can the truth set Evan free and help him reclaim his life with Kat? Will Kat be able to forgive Evan for everything he has put her through? Will the real person responsible for Tony's death be brought to justice?
Scarred is filled with secrets, deceit, danger, and true love. Evan and Kat's love for each other is endless. Even in the mist of their worst moments, they can't stop thinking, loving, defending and fighting for each other. Willow Winters wrote a gut wrenching love story that shows just how much true love can endure and conquer. Evan and Kat have become one of my ultimate favorite couples. Well done Willow, well done!

AHHHH! I liked this one even more then Damaged!!!! Scarred starts off where Damaged left off and although you could read it as a stand alone, why would you!? I feel like the intensity was cranked up even more on this one.

I like the way Willow had me on the edge of my seat, always guessing, always speculating and wondering who was doing what, why and what the outcome would be. It was INSANE!

At times I definitely wanted to pull my hair out because Evan and Kat just couldn't seem to get it together. If you read Damaged then you know that Evan's work isn't always on the up and up and that he works with some dangerous people. He never thought that someone he was close to would turn on him and put him in harms way. He'll never let anything happen to Kat but the lies, the deception, the secrets are all coming back to bite him and he just may lose the most important thing he has.

Kat is going through something that she shouldn't have to face alone. While having to deal with that she's hearing rumors about Evan, she's reading articles in the paper and she's seeing things with her own eyes that don't add up. She knows he's not telling her the truth and the person she's choosing to lean on wants her. Will she give into her loneliness and confusion with Jacob or will all the dark things come to light and reveal Evan to be the man she always thought him to be.

Get ready for a crazy ride!
