I am a huge fan of Lee Strobel's works and have been trying to work through some of his books here lately, but being a busy Mom of two young children it can be hard to find time to read, so I was utterly delighted to receive this devotional that is broken down into a much more manageable format of small two pages that even I can fit into my busy day. I feel like though the pages are not very long the content is still very good and I feel like it is great way to start out my day and get me thinking about deeper things.

I feel like especially as a Mother I need to be studying and researching my faith more, too often as Christians we just blindly follow and don't realize that there is so much evidence for Christ. I think it is vitally important to know some of the evidence so when our children are presented with alternative viewpoints we can thoughtfully and intellectually discuss it with them and help them understand that while faith is a very important aspect of our walk we also have evidence for Christ and it does not all have to be taken on faith.

Insightful and engaging this book would make an excellent addition to anyone's bookshelf or it would be a fabulous gift for anyone in your life. I cannot recommend it enough!

I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

This book contains 180 devotions that focus on defending or explaining what Christians believe. Each devotion was two pages in length and started with a verse or two from the Bible. The body of the devotion usually began with a critical comment about Christianity by an atheist or non-Christian. This was followed by a counter argument by a Christian scholar or apologist (like Michael Behe, Craig Evans, Ravi Zacharias, C.S. Lewis, William Lane Craig, and the authors).

A large number of the devotions were taken from Lee Strobel's "Case for..." books, so they talked about things like evidence for God creating the universe and time (which they implied He did through the Big Bang), the question of suffering, and evidence for Jesus' divinity, life, resurrection, and death. Each devotion ended with a short thought for reflection. If you've read Strobel's books or other in-depth apologetics books, you probably won't find much new here. However, if you (or a friend) are interested but don't have the time to read those books, this is a nice, bite-sized way to get informed.

I bought copies of this devotional for my grandsons, who are all college age or slightly above. However, I wanted to read it before I gave it to these guys to make sure it was writings that they could relate to. I have to say it exceeded my expectations and hopes. I think my grandsons will find it intellectually stimulating and spiritually uplifting and informative. It also should appeal to some of them because of the short format—180 different writings. They all are very busy and most are spending many hours per day reading and writing for their college courses. I like the short essays for myself, because the information is a lot to take in and remember. This book should appeal to all adult or near-adult ages. I highly recommend it.

I absolutely love this book! I would recommend it to just about anyone, it offers such a great balance of intellectual and spiritual advice and knowledge for a Christian today. It also gives great evidence to someone who is doubting. This is quite possibly my favorite devotional I have read, praise God for men like Strobel and Mittelberg!

Strobel walks through basic questions for Christians and non Christians about what we believe and why we believe it. I’d rather read a longer form book like the Case For Christ but this does a decent job I guess.

An excellent devotional! The logical analyses of the Bible and references to archaeological and historical evidence really appealed to me. I have read some devotionals where I felt like it was a responsibility to read periodically, but not this one. I highly recommend it!

I am a huge fan of the writings and teachings of both Lee Strobel and Mark Mittelberg so I knew that the devotional, Today's Moment of Truth: Devotions to Deepen Your Faith in Christ, would be a great book.

As a journalistic, Lee Stroebel questions everything. Not only does he question everything but he passes that information along to his readers. The foundation of all Christian learning is the Bible. Stroebel ensures that followers have the evidence to back up the claims of the bible. When speaking with non believers it is essential that Christians have the back up to support the words of the Bible as we witness.

I liked the devotionals on archaeology and the bible. There is archaeological evidence that supports the words in the Old Testament and the New Testament. For example in Archaeology and the Bible, Part II, Stroebel bases his devotion on the words of Luke:

“This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.”

LUKE 24:44

“Now, Acts was authored by the historian Luke. Hemer gives more than a dozen reasons why Acts had to have been written before AD 62, or about thirty years after Jesus’ crucifixion. Even earlier, Luke wrote the gospel of Luke, which is substantially the same as the other biblical accounts of Jesus’ life.

“So here you have an impeccable historian, who has been proven right in hundreds of details and never proven wrong, writing the whole history of Jesus and the early church. And it’s written within one generation while eyewitnesses were still alive and could have disputed it if it were exaggerated or false. You don’t have anything like that from any other religious book from the ancient world.”

Stroebel further directs readers to check out Zondervan's Archaeological Study Bible as well as the web site of the Biblical Archaeological Review which is a great bi-monthly publication.

Each devotion in Today's Moment of Truth begins with a bible quote, a devotion usually based on Stroebel's personal observations and experiences and then today's moment of truth which helps us apply the information to our daily life and our conversations with non-believers.

I highly recommend Today's Moment of Truth: Devotions to Deepen Your Faith in Christ by Lee Strobel and Mark Mittelberg. It is very enlightening and a great resource for bible study and reflection.

Today's Moment of Truth: Devotions to Deepen Your Faith in ChristWhy Do We Believe What We Believe?

Leading apologists Lee Strobel and Mark Mittelberg present 180 insightful devotions that will give you daily infusions of spiritual truth while deepening your knowledge of the evidence for Christianity. Each devotional is based on scientific, historical, or biblical facts that will bolster your confidence in Christ. You will be inspired, encouraged, and equipped to “give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have” (1 Peter 3:15). Practical takeaway will allow you to put this confidence and knowledge into action. You’ll emerge with a deeper understanding of why you believe what you believe. In the process, you’ll find your love of truth—and your passion to share it—growing each day.

You may remember Lee Strobel's The Case for..., he and Mark Mittelberg, author of The Contagious Church, have worked together on this devotional.  So not only will you get easy background on why we believe what we do, but scripture, further thinking and truth for today.  The contents reveal any topical index you would need for the 180 devotions.  The devotions are interesting, concise and thought provoking.  One that sticks in my head is the 6 E's of the Resurrection; Execution, the Empty Tomb, Eyewitnesses, Early accounts, Extra Biblical reports, and the Emergence of the church all points to the truth of the Resurrection.

The hardcover handles well and the devotional has a ribbon to mark your spot.  This devotional may be used individually, within a small group or as a family devotional.

Each devotional started with a short verse from the Bible, was usually followed by a critical comment about the Bible (related to the verse) by an atheist, and then briefly described a scientific, archeological, or Biblical point (like prophecy) that supports the Bible account. If you've read Strobel's books or other in-depth apologetics books, you probably won't find much new here. However, if you (or a friend) are interested but don't have the time to read those books, this is a nice, bite-sized way to get informed. It's more for strengthening your faith than learning to counter arguments. The entry's are too brief to give a full argument on a topic.

I recevied a complimentary copy.

First you must undoubtedly have a strong faith and wanting to be a part of something more with God. Next you should have a few minutes cleared each day and the will to learn. Last you should read this book and spread the word, instead of just putting it back down. The authors created a great learning and growing experience for the readers, to connect with Christianity in an easy to understand way.

A different sort of devotional. I didn't like it until I did. Let the reading simmer for a while and it'll begin to speak to you. Especially when you try to connect the verse with the final thought of the day. This one grows on you and I think that is a good thing.
