What I hadn’t appreciated was that this is a short story with only 76 pages. So just as I was starting to relax into the narrative – it came to a sudden, abrupt stop. Which was a shame as I was just beginning to bond with poor old Jane and her problems. 7/10

Waking up is always a shock. Dead bodies don’t help.

Cpl Jane Poole died a horrible death. And now she is just what the spaceship Anvil needs, another totally dysfunctional and untrustworthy crewmember. She has this secret without knowing what it is. She woke up with no idea who she is or why her world is disintegrating. And taking a someone else’s name is the least of her problems.

Michael Penmore has crafted a new series that begins with a bang. And he sends his most unlikely space heroes to save the day.

Rhys and his crew of misfits can never resist a new challenge. And their new guest is just as clueless as they are. Things always get complicated when the Anvil shows up.

I received a free kindle copy of The Sigma Protocol: A Thrilling Sci-Fi Short by Michael Penmore in an Amazon promotion. If you are a fan of fiction science or otherwise I highly recommend this work as it is a good quick read at only 87 pages. The author sets up a story that is rich and full of depth. With a character that wakes up from a medically induced coma not knowing anything about herself, the ship she is on, or the danger she is in. Follow Corporal Jane Pool and together find answers to the imaginative world that is presented before you.

Short but satisfying.

Michael Penmore has done a good job of setting up his universe. We get to meet all the major players and are given a taste of what life is like in this reality. Mr Penmore is a new author and in my opinion shows promise. I look forward to discovering more of the universe as he sees it.

I definitely would recommend this story and those that follow to anyone who enjoys character development and plot. A good story does not have to be constant conflict and explosions.

Amazon recommended the 2nd book in the series to me & when I saw it was the second book I went & bought the first one to read it properly. First, let me say the author sat down & wrote a book which is something that I myself can’t do. Saying that I think this book would maybe be better targeted as a YA book, I found the narrative to be very one dimensional & oddly paced . I stayed through over 50% of the book wanting to give it a fair chance and I had to just give up on it.

Fast paced, Excellent beginning for a novella.

Usually I do not read books like this i.e. a person who can’t remember their name Ella Bourne identity. When you have a memory deficit you are not operating on all cylinders, you are not totally whole and complete. But this novella I liked it because it was short fast-paced and interesting I will give the next one a try. I only gave it four stars because it was too short. I definitely want to read more.

An explosive start to a new story

I was going to give this book four * but changed this to five* when I decided this short first story had me interested enough to go search for more. A fast and explosive start (literally) to what promises to be a good story-line. I just hope future books are a bit longer!

I liked the way this story was written. The confusion and uncertainty Sgma/Jane Poole had when woken was realistic, and finding that she had been the captain of the Copernicus made sense of why she understood/knew about certain things. Even though her memory seems to lost (at least temporarily) her semantic and procedural memory was intack. Great lead-in to the series.

This was a great - an excellent start to the series. (It's a really quick read.) Sigma Protocol a/k/a Jane Poole is one feisty woman. Now on to the rest of the story -- so many gaps need to be filled in.

Very short, but well told. While it does not resolve anything, it is interesting enough to want to continue reading the story. Also, as short as it is, there is not very much character development yet. Just lots of introductions.

This book has interesting characters and well-described action scenes. I wish the plot extended further since it did little more than introduce the protagonists and bad guys before the story ends in a cliff-hanger.

Picked this story for a fast read, but found the characters interesting enough to actually pick up the next story. Hope it unravels some of the mystery.

Great Mystery,

Author does a superb job of present the story with drama, unfolding each tidbit in turn to keep the reader and engrossed. I’m ready for book two,

Very disappointing, it was a bit derivative and the characters were two dimensional and cliched. I won't be reading the rest.

WHAT?

This starts off really well and then suddenly ends after about 3 chapters. Hardly a book, in fact more like a short story. I was enjoying this and hated that it ended so abruptly. This the 3 stars!
