When Goldie Bloom moved to her uncle's house, I'll bet she never dreamed there would be so many changes in her life-and many of them having to do with archaic laws of her community. But to start off, inheriting a pet wombat named Persnickle must have been quite the challenge. When Persnickle charged through the screen door and fence because he hates the color orange, he was charging because a group of Dutch runners happened by, all dressed in orange. Somehow he managed to overtake a slow runner and knock him over, remove one running shoe. and proceed to eat the shoe! Worried that Persnickle would suffer ill effects, Goldie got him in the car and quickly went to the only vet in the community. Only no one was there. Sure the door was open, but there were no cars, no people, just an open empty vet office. Goldie went in calling out for help and wandering around looking for someone. Imagine her shock when the only person she discovered was dead! She barely took in the scene when the door flew open and the vet nurse rushed in. She insisted that they leave the room and call the police.
Before long police were at the vet office asking questions of both women. Part of the archaic laws must have been to hire stupid police officers, because the detective kept asking the same questions of the two women over and over, not listening to or believing the answer the women gave. Goldie is a Sea Witch, and part of her abilities were being able to see and talk with ghosts when Persnickle was with her. She couldn't exactly talk to the victim while everyone was around, but at least it gave her a way to access information in the future!
Between Goldie's fear of jail time, her friends who help her with investigating the murder, Persnickle, Paddy (a pademelon Goldie is roped into taking care of while the owner has medical treatment), and the crazy laws of her town, there is plenty to laugh about. Add in the Dutch runners and the fact Goldie chased Persnickle while wearing hot rollers in her hair, a green facial masque, and a bathrobe you can imagine the shock of the Dutch runners and people on the bus who saw her. They all thought she was a reptile woman. Lots of funny comments about Goldie followed all that.
This book is determined to get to the bottom of who killed the vet, but it was slow reading because of all the laughing I was doing! The author has such a witty sense of humor expressed in her writing that there is never a shortage of funny situations. Although I am American and some of the terms, plants, and animals are unfamiliar to me, it is obvious through the author's tone and descriptions that funny is funny no matter what your native land. Besides all that, it turned out to be a very good murder mystery that surprised me. I was also glad the author expounded on sea witches a little more and Goldie figured out something else she could do with her powers. A surprise ending makes me anxiously waiting for the next book in this series.
Many thanks to the author for allowing me to read her book before publication. The comments expressed are strictly my own.

This is a great book; this is the third book in the Sea Witch Series written by Morgana Best. Goldie Bloom’s womb is empty. Not that she minds—only her dead mother’s busybody bestie, Gertrude Hyacinth Clutterbuck, won’t stop harassing her. Goldie’s got other things on her mind, like her wombat’s terrorizing of the Dutch running club, fighting her attraction to the infuriatingly gorgeous Detective Max Grayson, and the melon she is asked to mind. This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. This book will keep you reading long into the night. If you are looking for a great book, then you need to read this book. I am looking forward to reading the next book by this great author. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader’s copy of this book. The free book held no determination on my personal review.

Another enjoyable and entertaining book by Morgana Best!
In this book, the reader is back with Goldie, and her wombat familiar (Persnickle), along with the rest of the "gang". Persnickle has eaten something he shouldn't have so Goldie has to take him to the vet. The problem is that the vet is lying behind his desk dead! Thus begins the mystery in which Goldie finds herself one of the suspects. Since Goldie can see and hear ghosts when Persnickle is next to her, she finds that the vet is no help as he was shot from behind and didn't see who it was that shot him.
If you have read this series and liked the first 2 books, I believe you will like and enjoy this one. Morgana Best is well... THE best writer of all the cozy mystery paranormal books I have read! And believe me, I have read a LOT of them by various authors.

Goldie Bloom takes her pet wombat to the vet to be checked over after he attacks a runner from another country and eats one of his sneakers. The sneaker was orange, the wombat hates anything orange and attacks it on the spot. (I actually think he sees orange and believes it's just a large carrot. His favorite snack.)
When Goldie arrives at the vet's, the business is empty, she walks through an open door and discovers the body of the recently murdered vet.
Because the lead detective believes Goldie to be the main suspect. She, Oleander and Athanasius investigate on their own. Their suspects are the vet's wife, his mistress, his best friend, and his mistresses husband.
Another good story in the series.

Broom for One More is Book 3 in the Sea Witch Cozy Mystery Series and each book is better and better! This book was so fun and the best book in the series by far! I laughed out loud so many times.
Goldie has gotten caught up in another murder, this time she discovers the body of the town vet after her familiar Persnickle (who is a wombat LOL) eats a shoe and Goldie rushes him to the vet.
This book has everything you could want in a cozy paranormal and more! I am so hooked on this series and cannot wait for the next one.

Moderately paranormal absolutely fun series
Goldie is a sea witch who can speak to ghosts when in the presence of her magical pet wombat. This is city girl moves to sea side village with entertaining results. In this book, Goldie happens upon the body of the town vet. Since she's a suspect, Goldie and friends are off on a mission to find the killer. If you are drawn to paranormal cozies as I am, this is a fun series.

Persnickle the wombat is the best part of this series! He gets Goldie into some (hilarious) trouble when he runs outside and eats an orange running shoe off the foot of a runner because he hates the color orange. When Goldie takes him to the vet to make sure he's all right after eating the shoe, she discovers a murder.
There were so many funny scenes in this book that they overshadowed the murder investigation, but I don't see that as a downside. This is one of my favorite series!

The wombat and the Colour Orange
A good read. A case of a vet being shot and murdered in his practice. Our intrepid gang of investigators are on the case especially as our heroine seems to be one of the main suspects.
It all started with the orange clad runners, her wombat's hatred of the colour orange and ended with her as a suspect in the murder of the local vet. Who would want to kill him? His string of lovers, his fed up wife, his oldest friend or the nurse stealing from the practice. Wayward spells, a babysitter for another pet, a disgruntled ghost, an IA investigation at the police station and police officers who ignore her and her claims. Will she work out who the killer is? Will she stay local? How will her attraction to a certain detective end?

3. Broom for one more.
Persnickle chases some Dutch runners and eats a runners shoe, so Goldie takes him to the vet only to find him dead in his office.
That's how she is considered a suspect as well as others. That's when she and her friends decide to investigate who murdered the veterinarian with a gunshot in the back.
This is a funny and fast read and shows humor along the whole book.
Ms Best has been able to create a wonderful series and has left me wanting to start reading the next book.

I have been so terrible with keeping up with reviews, so much so this is my first one for 2025, and it's for a book I read in November 24!
Of course I don't remember much, but what I can say is that these books are so much fun! I always listen to the audio version and I end up constantly cackling because they are absolutely hilarious.

This one tops the series so far! I laughed so hard in multiple places! Persnickle is so cute and funny. And yay, he's a pet wombat that Goldie got as part of her inheritance. I read it in one day because it wouldn't let me go. It was a blast to read!

There is another murder but can Goldie solve it or will the police arrest the wrong person again
April 1, 2018
Of course I loved it!
Goldie is a recent transplant from Sidney to the seaside village of East Bucklebury with its odd laws and learned that she is a sea witch and can influence the weather. The opening chapter is hilarious and kept me laughing throughout the whole entrancing book! Goldie has a pet wombat who allows her to see ghosts, and is also a therapy wombat at the nearby retirement home. I don't do spoilers, but I will tell you that the Aunt Gertrude thing is not a major part in this fun murder mystery in an
Australian village where coffee is illegal. Goldie does her best to stay out of the watch house by sleuthing with her two elderly friends and gets into more trouble than the Pademelon she is petsitting.
Enjoy!
