Meh. I didn't care for the writing style or the characters. I thought both Cam and Martha were flat. The plot is interesting (framing a guy, threatening emails, etc) but that was the only good thing really.
Delta Force soldier Cam Sutton wants to prove that his team leader, Rex Danvers, isn't a terrorist, so he tracks down CIA translator Martha Drake, who forwarded on incriminating emails that were sent to her about Danvers, which is what prompted the investigation into him and labeling of him as a traitor. Martha thought there was something hinky-dinky about those emails and kept copies, so now somebody is trying to kill her. So it's up to Cam to protect her while they try to find out who's setting Danvers up.
Carol Ericson can write some good books, but not when she's dealing with plots that involve terrorists. This is boring, and mostly filled up with Cam and Martha flitting from one location to another, broken up by the occasional discovery of a dead body of someone connected with the cover-up. There's lots of chat about drinking water (?), our h and H's hygiene habits (they're always taking showers or baths), and, of course, endless chatter about food. When Ericson doesn't have much of a plot going on, she always has her H and h nattering endlessly about food. It's bizarre! One conversation goes on for more than three pages! Ericson also seems to favour totally cringeworthy dialogue during the big sex scene, too.
Lots of talk, little action. The climax is brief and totally blah. Then, by the end, we don't have any idea what the terrorists' motives for their attacks are, why they dragged a particular senator into the plot, nor why they were so interested in setting up Danvers. I mean, what's the point?
Shit like this just wastes my time! At least there's only three books.
This wasn't an easy book to read to be honest. The synopsis sounded interesting and every so often Harlequin has some really good Intrigue stories but this one has me scratching my head.
Cam Sutton comes out of now where and decides to help the CIA translator Martha Drake who's fathers past and her looks have her question everything that comes out of the handsome Delta Forces mouth.
Everything about this book comes of as personal attacks to each other Martha who is wealth and well educated and Cam who is the opposite and can't read due to his dyslexia. Martha has a lack of self confidence and Cam thinks she is hot and is attracted to a Intelligence than looks.
Most of the story about them trying to figure each other out and less about why someone is after Martha or his Military commander. There is sex but honestly it is really uncomfortable and removes readers from the adventure or the person who is trying to destroy everything about Martha and the life she created.
The story has a moral to it don't judge a book by its cover but it gets lost in the all inner monologue and awkward moments.
Thank you to Netgllaey and the publisher Harlequin Intrigue for the advance copy of Carol Ericson Delta Force
Martha is a CIA agent that found some questionable emails that implicate a Delta Force member that causes him to run. But figures something is up about those emails and makes a secret copy. Delta Force member Cam knows his friend isn't guilt and is working on proving his friends innocence and catching who is behind it, first he must go to the person who made those emails known Martha. With bodies and fishy evidences Martha is no longer safe and with the help of Cam will find out who is behind everything.
From start to end there was so much going on that'll leave the readers hooked. I loved that there was barely a moment peace keeping me wanting to know more, find out who is behind this mess. I couldn't help but be curious what else would come to light, or if someone would come after Martha. There was also bit of romance that was thrown into this book and what I liked about it was that this whole book wasn't centered around it. There was a steamy scene or two but it wasn't where everything revolved around whether or not these two got together, there was the whole mystery going on and they really had to be kept on their toes. Overall this was a pretty great book I really enjoyed it.
Electrifying drama from start to finish! A mystery arises that they set out to solve, but in the midst of it all attempts on her life keep happening. Lots of excitement, and a bit of romance as they fall for each other along the way. The ending of the book was rather abrupt, but overall I enjoyed it and it kept my attention easily.
CIA translator Martha Drake suspects something fishy is going on when she receives some anonymous emails implicating an Army big wig in wrong doing. There's just something off about the emails, so she keeps a copy for herself before turning them over to her superiors. When strange things start happening around her, and a stranger shows up offering assistance, she's not sure who to trust, but she takes a chance on the guy who's protecting her when things start going down.
Delta Force operative Cam Sutton is determined to clear his commanding officer's name of the wrong doing he knows he's not guilty of. He needs to get info on the emails that framed him ... and what better person to go to than the woman who turned them in. He walks into the middle of something going on with her though, and ends up having to keep her safe from danger around every corner as they set out to figure out who is doing this ... and why!
4 stars! Martha Drake works in the CIA translation department and for reasons unknown, she has been targeted with emails from an unverifiable source providing damaging information about Delta Force Major Rex Denver; who now is being hunted by army rangers. Following protocol she notified her superiors and provided the emails, but also voiced her opinion that something didn't seem right about their content. With her warnings unheeded and aware that the hunt was on for the Major, Martha has decided to take matters into her own hands, but someone now knows she is looking into the possible source and is sending threatening emails to her. A gut feeling that she is being followed isn't helping and a brush with an oncoming train cements her suspicions. In the last second a grab from behind saves disaster, but now she fears capture...Cam Sutton is part of Major Denver's crew and he has decided to take matters into his own hands, too; starting with the CIA translator. Totally not what he expected, but his first priority is his Major, or is it?
I loved reading this book. It was neat for it showed how a person can make a web and tangle a person in it. Martha Drake thinks she has a simple job and receives some emails. Follows the rules passes them on. But the spider draws her in. As you follow the story you will find yourself turning the page to see what is happening next. Cam Sutton is a important part of this story as well. But there is so much more to the story. I can't wait to read the next story to this one for it will be another part to the puzzle/web.
A fast paced story that will have you breathing hard as the story unfolds. When a Delta Force Commander is accused of fratonising with the enemy his team will go the length of loyalty to see that tbeir Commander is free of all charges. But there's one cacth a Nerdy CIA Computer Analyst thinks its a set up to so she takes emails that was sent to her home and with the help of one Delta Forces Sexy Soldier they will try and uncover the truth.
"Delta Force Defender" Cam Sutton is a man on a mission--he's out to prove that his commander, Major Rex Denver, is innocent of charges accusing him of being involved in a terrorist plot. CIA translator Martha Drake discovered the emails implicating the major and turned them over to the authorities. However, she had a feeling of unease about the communications, so she made copies of them. Cam needs to investigate those emails, so he heads for the best source--translator Martha. Someone else also wants to make contact with Martha--someone who wants to silence her for good. Cam soon finds himself protecting Martha while trying to clear his commander's name. The attraction between Martha and Cam won't stand a chance of growing into future happiness if they can't keep each other alive. Author Carol Ericson's thrilling romantic suspense tales feature strong characterizations, intriguing story lines, and involving romances. I very much enjoyed "Delta Force Defender", and I look forward to reading other entries in the "Red, White and Built: Pumped Up" series.

Delta Force Defender by Carol Ericson is the first book in the Red. White, and Built pumped up series. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Cam and Martha. They played well off one another. Martha is a CIA agent who found incriminating emails and turned them over. Those emails happen to incriminate Cam's superior officer. Whom he would defend with everything he has. This book is interesting and intense.
