Rush Duet #1

Rebel Heir

Rate this book
From New York Times Bestselling authors Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward, comes the first book in a new, sexy duet.

How to kick off a great summer in the Hamptons:

Snag a gorgeous rental on the beach. Check.

Get a job at a trendy summer haunt. Check.

How to screw up a great summer in the Hamptons:

Fall for the one guy with a dark leather jacket, scruff on his face, and intense eyes that doesn’t fit in with the rest of the tony looking crowd. A guy you can’t have when you’ll be leaving at the end of the season.

Check. Check. Check.

I should add—especially when the guy is your sexy, tattooed God of a boss.

Especially when he not only owns your place of employment but inherited half of the town.

Especially when he’s mean to you.

Or so I thought.

Until one night when he demanded I get in his car so he could drive me home because he didn’t want me walking in the dark.

That was sort of how it all started with Rush.

And then little by little, some of the walls of this hardass man started to come down.

I never expected that the two of us, seemingly opposites from the outside, would grow so close.

I wasn't supposed to fall for the rebel heir, especially when he made it clear he didn’t want to cross the line with me.

As the temperature turned cooler, the nights became hotter. My summer became a lot more interesting—and complicated.

All good things must come to an end, right?

Except our ending was one I didn’t see coming.

Rebel Heir is the first book in the Rush Series Duet. Book Two, Rebel Heart, will release six weeks later on May, 22, 2018.

“You ever just look at someone and know that if you let them, they could turn your life upside down…completely ruin you?”

description
description

Ever got yourself a massive pizza with stuffed crust and extra carbs on the side to go. Placed it on the kitchen counter top, stared at it and thought, "You are no good to me whatsoever, I have experienced your effects multiple times and have seen what you do to me." Then, just when you're about to close the box and outsmart that fucking pizza, you say damn it all to hell... and you stuff your "I deserve this" mouth.

That was a brief summary of what this book was like to read.

___________

Alex Explains the Pizza Symbolism
Now, although a lot of the tropes and the cliches in this book were done before - I do want to go ahead and start this by saying this was a massive guilty pleasure. In fact, it was the epitome of one - because I know for a fact if I read this again and sit down and think about it, I would list out a whole bunch of reasons why this book and me wouldn't gel well.

However, beyond the cliches and the predictable plot lines lay a page-turner. True to every sense of the word. I don't know if it was because it was a slow burn romance or because it was humorous at times or even because I was stuck on a 5 and a half hour flight. I kept reading and I couldn't stop myself.

That being said, it does end in a cliffhanger and I feel no push to read the second book. It's a weird predicament I'm in. I found more wrong with this than right but I still really enjoyed myself. I can follow every literary criticism with a point that went well, yet that doesn't negate the fact that there is a plethora of those critiques.

See, it's weird!!!

The Plot
Rebel Heir is centered around Rush and Gia. Both of them are sass queens and both of them fuel off each other - the minute they meet, sparks seem to fly and once the realization sets in that Rush is Gia's 'boss', the sexual tension rises to an all time high. A summer in the Hamptons is set in store for both characters as Gia tries to finish writing her upcoming romance novel and keep her mind off her new boss. Both of which, she fails terribly at doing.

I really enjoyed seeing the control that Gia had and how her demands for a serious relationship were actually taken... serious. I liked that the authors embedded a sense of realness in the relationship and didn't set it out to be artificial and 'perfect' like most NA writers do.

Then again, there were some instances were the dialogue was awkward and chipped off and could have really done with some heavy re-thinking.

I wouldn't be me if I didn't provide with example(s):

i)
"Of course, I was also borderline obsessed with being inside her—not just getting her off and finishing myself off either. I wanted to fill every orifice of that damn woman."

...
...
every orifice???
description

ii)
"If I didn’t already dig this chick, she had to go and tell me she threw a baby doll into a fire. Something about that whole twisted story just warmed my black heart."

description

iii)
"My cock twitched. Down boy."

description
^^^
get it, I used a Woody gif.

Wow, I need sleep.

KITTY KATS CRAZY ABOUT BOOKS

‘REBEL HEIR:’ Is the first book in V. Keeland's & P. Ward’s ‘Rush Series Duet’ In this we meet ‘Rush and Gia’ Spoken in 'Dual Perspectives'

Rush is the owner of ‘The Heights’ the local bar/restaurant and pretty much everything else in town. Gia is on holiday in the Hampton's trying to get inspiration for her book she’s in the process of writing.

When Gia’s best friend asks her to cover her night shift at the local bar Gia couldn’t let her down even though she’d never so much as poured a drink in her life. Needing the extra money she couldn’t it down. With the knowledge that the boss wouldn’t stop in for the night she readily agrees because she’d already blown the ten-grand her publisher had already advanced her on the house share rental for the summer whilst she worked on her book.

Filling drink orders she notices a drop dead gorgeous guy down the bar watching her whilst she works making her way over to take his order next she asks him...

“What can I get you?”
He quickly replies back with “What do you know how to make?”
Which she replies back with “I know how to make beer.”

Needless to say she’s come face to face with the owner of the place and he’s not a happy chappy. He's down right angry and on the verge of firing not just her but her best friend too.

After pouring wrong drinks, and overcharging he’s ready to fire her but he finds out that he’s short staff and needs a front desk hostess, hoping that surely she couldn’t f#ck that up either.

Rush makes no qualms that he’s an arrogant crass bustard he’s well known for the fact, he’s unapproachable, at the best of times a jerk but Gia with her sassy mouthed fire cracker with a take no prisoners attitude puts him in his place, and slowly you see a different side of Rush evolve. A tender, protective side emerges.

As per usual as soon as I picked this I was engrossed with what I was reading, the banter, the sizzling attraction, her sassiness, his hotness all made for an entertaining read. He’s the sharp shooter with a forked tongue, she pushes him out of his comfort zone to the point that he doesn’t know if he’s coming or going.

She frazzles him, and bedazzles him, their attraction sizzles in the background waiting to be ignited but he has this one rule that he never shits where he eats..

*****FOUR STARS*****
{ARC Generously Provided by Authors}

”You’ve always really had it.” “You’re loyalty?” He shook his head. ”You said, sometimes you have to let go of the things you never really had. You’ve had my love since day one. You’ve had me since day one. I was just too chicken-shit to admit it.”

REBEL HEIR is the first installment of a duet series written by the incomparable writing due of Vi Keeland & Penelope Ward. I have loved just about every book they’ve created together as well as their individual projects. For the first time, they are tackling a series together. So far the ”RUSH DUET” is off to a very good start!

Gia is a feisty and wildly spirited young woman. She's an aspiring romance author who is renting a house in the Hamptons with several other tenants in order to give her inspiration while she attempts to write her first novel. She meets Rush, the sinfully sexy but rough around the edges businessman while she covers her roommate’s bartending shift at a popular local restaurant/bar. Gia fails miserably as a bartender and unfortunately for her the owner witnesses the entire debacle. He threatens to fire her friend while also acting like a complete belligerent jerk towards her. But Gia is not the kind of women to meekly bow out from a confrontation and she gives back just as good as she gets from Rush. He winds up giving her a job as a Hostess and from that night on the two are nearly inseparable and there’s no denying the white-hot chemistry that exists between them.

While Rush can be hot-headed and is feared by most of his employees, Gia knows that he has a kind heart underneath it all and nothing he says or does seems to get to her. She’s the only one aside from his mother, who knows how to handle him. From the moment they met Rush has lusted after Gia but he puts the brakes on any chances at a romantic entanglement with her when he makes it clear that he NEVER gets involved with his employees. But every day that they spend together seems to be wearing the both of them down.

Rush has never been in a serious relationship and it stems from his childhood. He was raised by an amazing single mom but knowing what his deadbeat loser of a father did to her, has left emotional scars. He fears that he has some of his Dad’s evil blood pumping in his veins and would never want to repeat the mistakes of his father.

Gia is falling hopelessly in love with Rush and it becomes abundantly clear that Rush is no match against her determination. Once these two give in to their feelings, their passion for each other burns brighter than the sun. But the couple’s happiness is soon challenged by an unexpected surprise with a disturbing connection! This ends on a big cliffhanger that, to be honest, I had predicted easily.

Can Rush and Gia’s relationship survive once the big truth is revealed?

Here are my overall ratings:

Hero: 4.5
Heroine: 3.5
Plot: 4
Angst: 4
Steam: 5
Chemistry Between Hero & Heroine: 4

One thing is for certain is that I love when Penelope Ward and Vi Keeland team up to write a book.
I love the fact that when I began this book, I quickly became caught up in their story. Vi and Penelope write seamlessly into every page, every word has you hooked. Their books they have written together are all binge-worthy. It’s hard to put them down.
There it is, I love this book and am so damn impatient for the conclusion of Gia and Rush’s story especially with that LITTLE cliffhanger ending. Such a mix of emotions and I’m still reeling from it.

If you’re a Vi and Penelope fan, you won’t be disappointed!

The slut shaming pissed me the hell of. Basically, everyone who previously slept with hero was a slut or a whore. So yeah girls, it's 21st century but you can't have no strings attached sex cause you're a slut or a whore automatically. And also, you can't wear heels, short skirts and low cut blouses cause you look like sluts too.

And this coming from female authors.

Well... that was disappointing. I like both authors' previous work but this one didn't click. I didn't feel the love or chemistry between hero and heroine. And don't get me started on the twist, because I pretty much guessed who was the other guy from the early on. And the sex scenes were bland to that.

I am curious about how this story would end but not sure if enough to read the next book.

I didn't even know what this story was about.
I just liked the book cover model.
Me...blushing...

...And apparently the story is good too...

First of all you need to know that this the first book out of a two book story. There is a cliffhanger in the end, but nothing I was not really expecting.

Rush is the lucky heir of a very important fortune. The bastard child of a very rich guy, he also has another brother of a similar age who is the legitimate child of his father.
Being denied by his father, Rush was lucky enough to have a grandfather that loved him and tried to correct any mistakes and who left Rush with a great fortune when he died.
Rush did not grow up as a rich child, his mother suffered a lot in order to raise him and now Rush does not like either his father or his brother.
Rush among other things, he is also the owner of ‘The Heights’, the local bar/restaurant.

Gia is an author in the making. She tries to finish her book and since she is broke, she will accept any job .When her friend asks her to cover for her as a bartender at ‘The Heights’, Gia accepts (although she really does not know anything about cocktails or bartending:

“What can I get for you?”
“What do you know how to make?” God, the voice matched his face. Sexy, deep, and intense.
Apparently, he’d been sitting there for a while and figured out I wasn’t the best bartender. “Beer,” I grinned. “I know how to make beer.”
I caught a glimpse of a lip twitch—I thought. “The owner realized when he hired you that you only knew one drink recipe?”

So, Gia and Rush will meet at his bar for the first time. Obviously she will be fired straight away from the bartending position, but she will be also hired straight away as a front desk hostess.

Rush’s behaviour will be awesome. Firstly he will try to stay away from Gia and resist their mutual pull because he never dates his employees, but soon he will not be able to resist. He will be tender and tentative with Gia. He will look after her whether she knows about it of not. The good thing is that there will be no major secrets between them or horrible misunderstandings. Their relationship will proceed naturally.

I liked Gia and I liked Rush but mostly I liked their parents:

1. Rush's mother
My mother offered me a sad smile. “Sweetheart, sometimes the risk of what bad things could happen keeps us from experiencing all the good things life has to offer.”

2. Gia' father

Tony was just watching me and then caught me off guard when he said, “So…that being said…in all seriousness, what exactly are your intentions when it comes to my daughter?”
I nearly spit out my coffee.
A long moment of silence passed before they once again turned to each other and burst into laughter. These two were in cahoots—a couple of pranksters.
Tony cackled and pointed. “I loved the look on your face.”

I am now ready for book 2, please...

I went in blind and I have no clue why but I was expecting a royal romance lol That, it was not. But it was still good :) If you like an asshole hero who's a bit misunderstood, then you will probably enjoy this one! I have to admit if it wasn't for that twist of a cliffhanger at the end, I would have thought this novel to be rather predictable. Wasn't expecting it!

I LOVED THIS BOOK!

I sat at the pool on vacation and devoured this book. Rush ... is ... mine. More than the fantastic writing, wonderful plot, and lovable characters was so much emotion. There were times I was sitting with my hand over my heart as Rush stole it, other times I was fanning myself, and then cursing them the next.

Gia is my people. I swear, it was like hanging out with my best friend.

This is a true five star read. Keeland and Ward knocked it out of the park!

Do not read the spoiler if you intend to read the book because my spoiler is the revelation that is made towards the end of the book, which would totally spoil the book for you.

I guess Book 2 will clarify it all.

Although the cover is awesome (yummy), this issue is one of my pet peeves so I do not want to read this book.

P.S. Thank you to my friend TheresaDK for all the detailed information she gave me by private messaging. So, if you need further help, I am sure she will be glad to help you too with the details...

Wealthy tattooed rebel boss!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Narration: 🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧
Romance: 💙💛🖤🤍💖
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙
World building: 🌎🌍🌏🌎
Character development: 😳🤬😏🤓

The heroine: Gia - she is writing a novel and spent most of her money renting a beach house in the Hamptons. Her friend asks her to fill in for her at her job as a bartender. Gia was absolutely hopeless as a bartender, but ended up with a job as hostess.

The Hero(es): Rush - he is the illegitimate son of a wealthy man who would rather he didn’t exist. Though wealthier grandfather didn’t feel the same and left him a lot of money when he died. Rush own’s a bar, homes and several other businesses in the Hamptons.

The Story: Rush was not happy when Gia was turning away paying customers with her awful drinks. Though he was in a spot and ended up hiring her. He couldn’t keep his eyes or his mind off his new employee. The only problem is that he has a steadfast rule agains dating people that work for him.

I love a dirty talking alpha Hero and Rush was all that and a bag of chips! He was a former tattoo artist and dresses like a rebel, he certainly doesn’t fit in with the preppy boys in the Hamptons. I also liked that the book was dual POV. It was narrated by Maxine Mitchell and Sebastian York. I hadn’t heard Maxine before but I have listened to several books that Sebastian narrated and he is awesome as the alpha male with filthy thoughts and a very dirty mouth.

The story had the two main characters making friends early on and Gia made no bones about the fact that she wants to date Rush but he won’t compromise on his principles despite the fact that he keeps imagining Gia in all sorts of steamy situations. It was great! I also liked the fact that this was a boss employee trope outside the office setting.

The book has a huge cliffhanger ending which I had guessed long before it happened. However, I still can’t wait to read the next book!

Gia is renting a house in the Hamptons. She needs to finish writing her book over the summer. The publisher already paid her an advance, which she spent on the house! But now she's stuck ... she can't think of a thing to write. She needs a job to put food on the table, while waiting for inspiration to strike.

Enter Rush. Sexy, tattooed bad boy Rush.

description

He's the owner of The Heights. The bar/restaurant where Gia just took over her friend's shift. He's also the owner of pretty much everything in that town.

And he's also very interested in Gia. And vice versa. But he would never start something with an employee. And he also would never want something serious.

But she's so amazing. And beautiful. She gets him. She talks back. She doesn't seem to be scared of him like all of his other employees.

Can those two be each other's happily ever after? Or will things and people from both their pasts destroy everything???

What will happen to Gia & Rush?
Will there be a HEA?
Or will we get a Cliffy???
READ THE BOOK TO FIND OUT ☺

══════════════════════

Before I start with My Thoughts ... PLEASE don't listen to me! This is a five, or a 4.9 Star book for me - even though my following words could make you think it was a 2,3 or 4 star read. Don't worry, it's an amazing book, I'm just very weird! ☺

description

description

Awww! Another mega adorable book by Vi & Penelope!

I just adored Rush & Gia. And the whole Hamptons atmosphere!

Of course, since this is book #1 in a duet, I was constantly afraid to get to the end - do we get a cliffy??? Yup. We get a cliffy, BUT the second book will be out in 6 weeks. And also, don't worry. It's not a mega surprising cliffy - we know the two 'things' that will happen pretty much from the beginning. We just don't know how everything will end or how they will react or if it will destroy everything and how and what and when and grrrr ... UGH! I need book #2 ASAP!!!!

This was such an amazing story with amazing characters. Both Gia and Rush are so adorable and their banter is so cute and fun and the sparks and everything. Just perfect.

description

But even without the problems & people from the past in their way, there's still the problem of Rush's not sleeping with employees. And also the fact that Gia is only in town for the summer. And Rush doesn't do serious. He's afraid of not being good enough, of being left or hurt or hurting someone else.

It might take them a tiny little while to get to that happily ever after - but we enjoy every single page until that happens!

HURRY BOOK #2 - I want to know what happens next!!!!!!!

If I had to name some things I didn't like? Just some tiny little things. Don't worry. Nothing bad - I LOVED the book!

The story was sweet and funny and adorable, but also a bit ... uneventful. I always expected some excitement to jump out from around the next corner, but there's just nothing happening. Gia and Rush are arguing and fighting and falling in love. And that is MEGA adorable ... But that's it.

There's just this dark cloud hanging above everything - since we know what will happen at the end (due to the way too many, way too obvious hints), but until that happens, nothing much happens other than this cute and funny romance-courtship thingy. Which isn't bad at all. But I was expecting something more exciting - especially because this is a duet! Can what will happen in the last part of this book be enough to fill a whole 2nd book??? Yes, of course it can, because we just LOVE and ADORE Gia & Rush and we want them to end up happily ever after. BUT, it could've been a bit more exciting. A tiny little bit only ... ☺ No idea what Vi & Penelope will write in the 2nd book - how drawn out the whole story will probably be - but I have a bit of a feeling that Gia and Rush's love story could've been told in one (longer) book! OH. MY. GOD. You can't leave me hanging like this. That cliffhanger makes me badly want to read Rebel Heart ASAP. I am curious how it's going to play out. With Gia and Rush's complicated situation in the last chapter, the sequel will be full of drama.

Romance author Gia Mirabelli spends the summer in Hamptons as she works on her debut novel. While finding her writing groove, she needs to find a regular job for her daily expenses and necessities. Timely her best friend asks her a favor to fill in her shift at The Heights (local bar) and she couldn't refuse the opportunity. Gia is an inexperienced bartender and she constantly messed up with the orders. That almost got her in trouble when she meets the bar owner, Rush. He has a bad boy reputation. He's sexily intimidating and quite an asshole to his employees. However, Gia wasn't fazed by him and pushes back. Rush was undeniably attracted to her but he knows she's into a long-term relationship, not a summer fling. Also, he doesn't date his employees. How long he's going to resist his feelings for her?

Gia and Rush are likable characters. Gia is sassy, humble and industrious. She has a pleasing personality and it's impossible to hate her. How she remains bubbly and optimistic in handling tough situations was admirable. Despite of Rush giving her a rough time, she was patient to him and has brought out his good side. Rush was more than just a bad boy. He's incredibly thoughtful, chivalrous and sweet. He's very private and only lets in a few people that's why others failed to see that side of him. Aside from that, he was a good son. He's protective on his mom and loves her dearly. They have a wonderful mother and son relationship. By the way his mom was cool, carefree and philosophical. She's nothing but supportive to him and as well as on Gia.

I love Gia and Rush's chemistry and the angst made their romance build up nicely. So sexy, cute and intimate. It took these two a while before they started dating. I just freaking LOVE all their sweet moments! I haven't gotten over with the ending. I want more and the waiting game begins. Gah. So excited for it. Hands down to Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward for writing this book.

I was really digging this at first but by around 67% it started to go down hill...and then it crashed and burned. I had a few thoughts about who Harlan could be when Gia first spoke about him, and I’m so disappointed to say I was right. I wish I would have searched it out because I would have stopped right then. Anyway, this is not my jam, quite honestly the whole second half of the book just didn’t feel right, it went from over the top in one direction to the complete other side of the spectrum.

This may be one of the few books I’ve dnf’d this year. I was so excited to read it too, because I love some of Vi Keeland’s books. Though, I have noticed that I don’t like her books nearly as much when she collabs with Penelope Ward. I thought this book would be like Dear, Bridget, but it’s reaallly not.

From the first few pages, I already didn’t like Rush very much, he was an asshole and the only thing on his mind was sex. Also, as a side note, I HATE it when a character describes someone else as being a certain way. Show me, don’t tell. Gia says Rush is a badass, but I saw no such things. Yeah, he had tattoos and smokes, but where’s the badassery? And apparent Gia is eccentric, when the only thing she does is sass him at times and collect ugly dolls. Those are her only “eccentric” qualities.

Anyways, Rush is Gia’s boss at a restaurant and can’t date her because of his moral code, which I totally get, but he takes the incentive to fix her car without permission, then not tell her about it, only to make a bet so he can have a reason to have fixed it. What?

He also is her landlord, which he knows from her hiring form, but doesn’t disclose the fact at least halfway through the book, where I quit reading it. Okay, fine, those things aren’t that bad. Why’d I dnf the book? Well, let’s go through a few highlights:

-Gia slut-shames any girl that would have casual sex, because she’s definitely NOT like that. Her doing the same thing makes sense because it’d been months.

-Any girl that Rush talks to is automatically a “skank” or “whore”.

-Rush makes it clear that he won’t date Gia, but when she shows the slightest interest in a guy she works with (making Rush the boss), Rush is a major dick and seething with jealousy. He’s also a complete asshole to both of them.

-When Gia’s has had enough and yells at him, he has the audacity to ask her if she’s ever had anal sex... THAT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH ANYTHING! I’m not for violence, but I was glad to see her slap him for that.

We obviously can’t stop here because I was still okay to keep reading. What made me quit? Well, it’s Rush’s mom’s birthday, so she comes into the restaurant to paint, because she’s an artist and likes to do that, I guess? Anyways, minutes after the anal sex incident in the parking lot, Gia sees Rush with his mom, not knowing who she is.

The authors made it very clear that his mom looked much younger than she was, because god forbid a woman looks her age, and a younger man would want to date her. Gia sees Rush with a “whore” and is pissed because HOW DARE HE? Anger is understandable, but she creates a scene, declaring he was an asshole for inquiring about whether she’d ever had anal sex when he had a hookup ready. Girl, he’s your boss, you’re working, and creating a scene is just stupid when you need the job. If the scenes had been spaced out more than a page, I may have been able to continue, but I’m not doing that to myself.

I’m sure I could continue this rant for a while, but I don’t want to spend another minute on this fucking book. Excuse any mistakes, I wrote this in ten minutes without any editing. Look at me, such an eccentric badass.

Holy Mother, that was a roller coaster of a journey! Loooove Rush and Gia. This duo of authors never fail and well.. I am starting Rebel Heart right freaking now because that cliffhanger killed me! I am not ready to see what is next, but I am also excited because I know Vi and Penelope will not disappoint us. It never ceases to amaze me how much I love these two women writing together. They gave us the sexiest, swooniest heroes and the best heroines. And, of course, let's not forget that mindblowing chemistry! N0w, on to the second book!

Rush is the bad boy, illegitimate child of a man who's from a wealthy family and who inherits quite a large share after his grandfather passes away. He doesn't see eye to eye with his biological father and he has the wealth and common sense to do something about it.

That's his approach to almost everything until Gia comes along. Gia ends up working at his restaurant and he's really drawn to her. They start spending more and more time together and really getting to know each other. The problem is that Rush doesn't date his employees no matter how much he wants to.

However, he just can't stay away from her...they meet each other's parents and she even offers to be his f*ck buddy but...he's scared to have a relationship. A good talk with his Mom changes his perspective.

There's a little twist in the story that becomes a big issue and leads to a shocking end. It wasn't hard to put two and two together but I hated it all the same as I suspect this will be another hurdle for Rush.

I really enjoyed these two together but I felt the story was a bit formulaic. I know these two authors are capable of great things, I mean, they did come up with Chance, so my expectations are high.

Still, I'm withholding judgment until the next book, Rebel Heart, comes out May 22, 2018.

4.5 "OMG. LOVE" Stars!

Oh, feels feels feels and more feels. My heart is racing right now, my palms are sweaty, and my chest is heavy! What in the whatty what what is happening!?! GAH. That ending is absolutely HEART POUNDING!! And actually, MY JAW IS ON THE FLOOR! Holy shit! Penelope and Vi are such a dynamic duo! Every time I read one of their books, I’m blown away by the twists! Rebel Heir is another winner in this marvelous twosomes catalog of unputdownable reads. Sexy and intense feels, along with the hardy dose of swoon and angst, form an all-consuming story that I could not get enough of. I swear, I’m dying for the next installment. It was just so darn good!

Gia is in the Hamptons for the summer, working on a romance novel she’s inked a publishing deal for. One night she’s asked by her roommate Riley to fill in as a bartender at The Heights—a local restaurant and bar. Riley’s had a family emergency and can’t make her shift. While doing her bestie a favor, Gia makes a rather strong impression on the owner and finds herself with not only a new job but a budding friendship that leads to a even more yummy romance. Rush, the owner of The Heights, is a complete jerk at first. You don’t know whether to smack him or love him. LOL! That said, my love affair with this couple was instant, and my draw to the hero within the first chapter. I don’t know what it is about a guy who’s an asshole, but Rush is decadent.

Vi and Penelope write so seamlessly, stitching their characters together in the most perfect way. You truly fall into the storyline, losing yourself in the setting, while being wholly engaged in the characters fiery dialogue, and lured in by the easy writing and the twists and turns. Gia and Rush are endearing characters—Gia with her spunky personality, and Rush who’s a little more complex. There’s no questioning that chemistry sizzles between them, building slowly over time and eventually flaming into one heck of a romance with a jaw dropping ending.

Overall, I don’t know what more I can say! You need to read this! I couldn’t get enough and I am absolutely thirsting for the next installment. These characters stole my heart, and Penelope and Vi once again hit it out of the park with a phenomenal first part of what promises to be an unforgettable duet.

Rebel Heir By VI Keeland & Penelope Ward

This is the first book in the rush duet fantastically co-written by VI Keeland and Penelope Ward.
Gia is spending her summer in the Hampton's to finish a novel that she has just been given a publishing deal on. She reluctantly agrees to cover a shift for one of her friends who works at the Heights, a local bar.

Rush is the owner of The Heights, he has that rough sexy exterior that makes woman go week at the knees but he also happens to be an arrogant jerk! Well at first anyway. Rush gives Gia a permanent job after he is left short staffed unannounced and Gia accepts needing the cash.

Despite the back and forth banter between them, Rush and Gia develop an odd type of friendship. The air around them is thick with their obvious chemistry and sexual tension, but Rush draws a very clear line on where he stands on having a relationship with an employee.

Gia has burning need and with Rush’s dirty, dirty mouth and fierce protective temperament, sooner or later something or should I say someone has to give.

A unexpected twist see’s their growing relationship tested in a heart breaking and emotional predicament and just when you think they have may have overcome it your hit in the face with a profound discovery which has the makings of a potentially devastating outcome …. but we don’t find out because the book ends on a bitch of a cliff hanger! Grrrr. Now the wait begins for Book 2 Rebel Heart which releases on May 22nd.

description

MY THOUGHTS:
This was slow starting for me, until about the halfway mark when things took an unexpected turn, and then I could not put it down. I can certainly say “I didn’t see that coming!”

I enjoyed the writing style of the two authors finding a lot of the inner monologues and exchanged banter quiet amusing.

Gia is a strong and sassy, her clumsy honesty makes her a unique and likeable heroine. Rush is guarded and deliberately acts like an ass to everyone to keep them at arm’s length. His dirty talk and generous heart make him the perfect swoon worthy hero in the story.

I wanted more inner monologue from Rush, I wanted to hear how he got to being so in love with Gia. What made him change his opinion of relationships? Once the book picked up in speed it hammered through to the end full throttle without that explicate inner sharing of their feelings.

BLUSH RATING: 3
ROMANCE RATING: 3
PLOT RATING: 4
OVERALL: 4 Stars

GENRE: Contemporary Romance
NARRATION: Dual POV
BOOK DETAILS: Book One of Two

AUDIO AVAILABLE – Whisper- sync ready

DO I RECOMMEND THIS BOOK?
Yes for sure. This is different to the cliché boss-employee romance story. The unexpected shifts make for an intriguing read.

Narrated by: Sebastian York & Maxine Mitchell
Length: 6h 55m

Sebastian York is one of my favourite male narrators, he just has that deep demanding voice that makes me go all sorts of gooey. Perfectly matched to Rush he portrays the dirty tongued sexy alpha effortlessly and to the high standard he is known for.

Maxine narration of male’s voice probably the best I have heard. He female narration matched Gia perfectly her expressionism's really enhance the story.

Highly recommend the audio version of this entertaining story.

It's LIVE! https://amzn.to/2GJs6xX

Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward pair up once again to produce a fun, witty and sexy novel that will leave you hungry for more.

While failing miserably to help her friend, aspiring author Gia Mirabelli is still fast on her feet and ends up employed at The Heights, an upscale restaurant/bar in the Hamptons. She only intended to supplement her income during the summer. She needs to write her novel without distractions, especially not lying ones like the previous guy she went out with nor closed off cantankerous ones like her new employer, but the undeniable sparks that ignite whenever Rush is near are hard to fight.
“"You don't meet people by accident in life. That dude was meant to leave, and you were meant to meet me. It's all written in the stars."

Rush, the hard @$$ heir to the Heights and half of the Hamptons, tried to resist his sweet and sassy new hostess, but she got under his skin, levelled his walls, coaxed him to open his heart and bare his soul to her. Will love be enough to overcome the obstacles ahead of them and the shocking revelation behind Gia’s secret?

Despite his efforts to intimidate everyone around him, his appreciation for Gia’s strength, his protectiveness and thoughtfulness towards her is undeniably sexy. Gia’s charm derives from her fearlessness and determination. Both are fascinating characters, each shaped by the sufferings of their past, who learn to trust one another in order to reach the love they both merit.

The dynamic writing duo also incorporate equally warm and charming secondary characters in the form of Rush’s mother and Gia’s father. Both of whom raised their children as single parents.

Rebel Heir bursts with delicious banter, a witty heroine and sexy alpha male, sizzling hot love scenes and a swoon worthy romance. Even though it ends in a slightly foreseeable cliffhanger, the story is an absolutely fun and unputdownable read that only begs for more.

Rebel Heir is book #1 of the Rush duet by authors Vi Keeland & Penelope Ward. Told from both points of view with a cliffhanger.
