Although written already many decades ago and now hard to find outside of libraries, Boxers "The Dutch in Brazil" remains one of, if not the best book on the Dutch, or rather the GWIC period of Brazil, because it combines the authors profound knowledge of both Iberian and Dutch history with a narrative skill that has sadly become a rarity among modern historians.
Great book and still remains, in my opinion, the principle work on this period despite its age. It is also one of the only ones on this history available in English and, unlike the ones I have read in Portuguese, uses ample Dutch sources along with their Portuguese counterparts. Overall, a good read.
