In the book “The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*ck”, Mark Manson follows the road not taken by presenting a set of seemingly weird tactics to living a good life. His ultimate proposition is that people need to start caring less about everything. Instead, the key to living a good life is in individuals knowing what matters to them and not wasting energy stressing over every little thing. He then proceeds to educate us on how to move forward by going backwards.
Manson strongly believes that the endless pursuit of a flawless life, fueled by today’s picture-perfect social media standards, is responsible for many of the psychological illnesses that have become rampant. Everyone wants you to believe that the secret to a good life is to have a nicer job or a better car or a prettier girlfriend.
The key to a good life is not giving a fuck about more; it’s giving a fuck about less, giving a fuck about only what is true and immediate and important.
We are no longer facing a material crisis. We have plenty of resources: TVs and clothes and goods that we don’t need. The problem we face is existential and spiritual. We have so much stuff and so many opportunities that we don’t know what to give a fuck about anymore.
Because there’s an infinite amount of things we can now see or know, there are also an infinite number of ways we can discover that we don’t measure up, that we’re not good enough, that things aren’t as great as they could be.

The beginning and end was good. He writes good, have a lot of fantasy, but when he tries to tell us the truth of life from his “enormous” experience of a 35 year old man (young man) he fails. He has come to a part of his own life where he has got new values and are happy with that. Good on him, but he will see that life is always changing and he will get new values as the years go by, and then.... maybe he will write a new book?

When the book first made it appearance on my social media timelines, I knew I had to read this book, and by the time I saw all the reviews on goodreads, I had already started reading the so very anticipated book of the month/year.
Mark Manson captured the subtle art of not giving a F**K by manifesting us to focus on what was important in our lives. It is an honest perspective of living life under the radar of not having to fear what might happen in our life. The book has so much of connection between how I was taking my life with so many F**ks to give. Being a 20’s something independent women, and in such competitive era, sometimes we fail to understand and we start questioning ourselves with what is going wrong in our life? How can I be the best in everything I do? How do I impress my boss? Or How should I stop thinking about what others might feel about me? and so on. But, the book clearly states on not give F**K about anything. And, I ended questioning myself with, “Have I forgotten how to not give a f*ck”? To which Mark Manson quoted in the book with, "Let’s be honest, shit is f**ked and we have to live with it."
Mark Manson also stated, “If what we value is unhelpful, if what we consider success/failure is poorly chosen, then everything based upon those values- the thoughts, the emotions, the day-to-day feelings- will all be out of whack. Everything we think and feel about a situation ultimately comes back to how valuable we perceive it to be.” The truth is we have a choice to stop thinking about what others might think about us, or we can control what we can think. Manson makes us recognise our value based on the things we choose to give importance. For instance, if you are stuck with some problems in life, it is up to you whether to resolve the problem or whether you wish to walk away from it.

I’m reading this book again at a different point in my life and find that no matter what’s going on and how old I am, some parts will resonate more at a certain stage. I find that absolutely fascinating, because every time I read it it’s from a different point of view that I’m seeing it and that also helps me know what I need to work on to improve myself. The book gives you the tools, you must decide how you use them to enhance your life and how you see it.

Very quick read. Gets straight to the point. Points out some interesting things to consider. Would recommend tip someone who likes self -help books.

Nice summary
This was a decent book; however, I wish the editors did a better job. Way too many errors. Still worth the time though.

This book won’t tell you anything you don’t already know yourself but it is a good reminder on what to focus on in life. An easy read.

I would give this book 3.5stars. I liked it but didn’t love it. I would like to read again and revisit concepts.

The points he makes are justifiable. The writing style is a bit unstructured which can make it easy to get lost. Though I think the style fit in with the theme of the book, he wrote as if he really did not care about opinions. I guess this is the case with a lot of nonfiction writing. Read for the advice but think aboit it rather than accepting it as truth because all of it is situational!

"We are great not because of the things we chase or accomplish ...but because of who we already are and the things we choose to care about and fight for." the anti self-help "you are already good enough" book. it's less important to think about what you want and more important to think about what you think is worth struggling for.. because all of life is struggle and nothing comes without a cost. not giving a f*ck is more about choosing what is worth fighting for and not caring about how hard the opposition is, because you know deep down that it doesn't matter what's in your way, but you're already equipped to defy it. its being bold and powerful and not letting others expectations or script define your path.
