JOHNSTONE COUNTRY. WHERE DEATH RIDES FASTER THAN THE WIND.
For the greatest trapper in the country, there’s no place like the Rocky Mountains. Preacher and his son Hawk are riding the High Lonesome when the clear mountain air is split by a girl’s savage screams. A gang of ruthless trappers has kidnapped a Crow woman, but before they escape with her, Preacher and Hawk burst out of the tree line, guns spitting fire. They drive the trappers off, only to find that she’s not Crow, but white. Caroline has been raised by the Crow since childhood, the only people she’s ever known. To get her home, Preacher and Hawk will have to blast their way off this mountain, gunning down kill-crazy trappers and merciless Blackfeet warriors. Because it’s never really quiet on the western front.

This book was really good. It is about these fur trappers that rescue a white girl who was living with the Crow people. They try to get her safely home.
In William and J.A. Johnstones' Preacher's Rage (Pinnacle 2018), latest in the twenty-five volume The First Mountain Man series, Preacher is part of a five-man team taking a load of pelts to the trading post. It includes an Indian elder, Preacher's son Hawk-that-Sours, and two young trappers just learning the business. Hawk, part-Indian, part-Preacher, was raised by Absaroka Indians but now lives and works with his father, Preacher. One night, the group are attacked by eight men who make a living killing trappers and stealing their pelts but with Preacher involved, it doesn't work out that way. In fact, they all die but not before they tell Preacher that they are part of a much-larger group (about twenty more) who think nothing of taking the work and life of hard-working trappers for their own profit. And, they reveal, they have a young female Indian captive. Preacher being who he is--a moral man who distributes justice in the Wild West way--knows he must stop them before more trappers die.
This is an excellent addition to the iconic Preacher series, the face of the Mountain Man's life in the Old West.
It's not the best one in the Preacher series but it introduces an interesting character that shows up in more books about this mountain man. Still I enjoy reading the escapades on the frontier that Arthur is involved in.
Another fast moving adventure involving Preacher and his son Hawk and a couple of eastern boys. Everyone wants to make money and become rich from discovering gold/silver or whatever they could do to make a living. Preacher and Hawk are on their way to a local trading post to sell their hides. They really had some nice fluffy beaver, wolves pelts. Now there are robbers on the trail just waiting for trappers to come along, so that they can rob them. Now there are plenty of beaver in the streams of the mighty Rocky Mountains of you work at trapping them, but no there are men who sit and wait to rob persons of their pelts. A gang of eight men set out to rob Preacher and his party, but this time they choose the wrong trappers to rob. Preacher and I is group took the fight to these robbers, better to stop them all now, instead of constantly looking over the shoulders wondering when they'll attack. Lots of intrigue and action that you'll enjoy. This particular adventure features Preacher of course and his son Hawk, Dog, Horse. It's like all the family is here and healthy. So enjoy folks it's a great entertainment.😀😊
“The First Mountain Man, Preacher’s Rage” is a good book. Sometimes I have to go to a western. This is about a man called, Preacher and his small group of men who are out in the wilderness getting as much fur from animals as they can to turn in for money and supplies. Some bad men try to take out Preacher and his men but fail in their attempt. The rest of the thieves team up with some Blackfeet Indians and they all attempts to wipe out Preacher and his men.
Johnstone books continue to educate and entertain. Trappers, thieves, Native Americans, all play tug-o-war with, what else?, a beautiful young lady. Once again the good guys are good, the bad guys are bad, and the action is non-stop. I received an advanced digital copy from #NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
At times, I wonder how come Preacher remain so reasonable not to allow himself solely flooded by the pure rage and vengence! This book is the perfect one to uphold Preacher's reputation to the infamous Blackfeet tribe as the feared Ghost Killer. A indispensable read for those who love raw courage and adventure in untamed frontier.
The saga of Preacher paints a brilliant picture of the wonder and dangers of the early frontier. These stories show good against evil. Native Americans are both good and evil. The whites are both good and evil. It is frontier justice that makes the difference. The struggle is real.
Preacher and Hawk battle a gang of killers, and a war party of Blackfoot Warriors who have joined forces to not only wipe out Preachers, Hawk, and two other friends all because they want a beautiful woman who both groups of killers wish for their own. So much happens in this one but that my friends is the jest of it.
Who doesn't love a Preacher book? By this point in the series, you know the man, you know the legend..
When you want adventure and action, when you want a good frontier tale with a Dog and a Horse, when you want a strong, lovable protagonist with the bark on, you read yourself a Preacher book.
Another great western about Preacher and his son Hawk. I do so enjoy these books. Preacher is one of my favorites. He is one tough mountain man. I look forward to these books. Thank you to the Johnstone's for an awesome read
I started this book because of a reading challenge I'm doing. I went into it thinking that I would have a hard time getting into it. Boy was I wrong. This book has lots of action and a great story line. It definitely kept my attention. I want to read more of these books.
Preacher has his son, Hawk that Soars, along with him on this adventure. First they run into a gang that is stealing fur pelts and that expands to saving a lovely girl from the Blackfeet. It is few against many again but Preacher always figures out a way to outwit his foes.
The author always portrays a cast of characters that depicts the rigors of frontier life, its challenges and dangers. Preacher is always in the thick of it, battling all foes.
Forgot how much I miss this series with preacher. One of my favorite western or mountain men series of all time. Good writing, good characters, love bring it in his son, Hawk. I went back and updated my Goodreads, I have read every book in the series. Look forward to another.
Preacher just naturally gets into a scrape or two, even when he is not looking for it. This is another of the edge-of-your-seat Old West, early 1800s mountain adventure. Trappers, thieves, friendly Crow, hostile Blackfeet and a kidnapped young girl to add to the mix.
Another excellent book about my favorite mountain man Preacher. With an ending fit for ghost killer was an enjoyable book to read. As they say on to the next..
The saga of Preachers exploits get better with each book it seems as if we the readers are riding and fighting along with Preacher and his son Hawk Excellent series
Anyone who loves reading Westerns should read any of the Johnstone books. They have developed a great cast of characters that range the US in their travels and trials. The main character in this book is Preacher, an honest hardworking man who makes his living trapping but also makes his piece of the world a little better and a lot safer for the good people who live there. This book finds Preacher as part of a group takings pelts to market. Of course, his trip cannot be uneventful. Along the way, he encounters a group of outlaws who make their living stealing pelts from other trappers. They have also kidnapped a woman who Preacher quickly saves only to find out she was stolen many years ago and has been raised by Indians. Preacher's group decides to return her to her original home and family with all of the battles and adventures that always accompany the good guys in a Western. If you have not read any of the Johnstone books, you are seriously missing out on some of the best books in publication.
