Since the day Donald Trump announced his presidential campaign, the left has waged a demented war against him. Liberals used to pride themselves on their ultra-hipness, but Trump has turned them into weeping little girls in pink party dresses. The very people who once mocked right-wingers for (allegedly) overreacting to every little thing are now the ones hyperventilating and hatching insane conspiracy theories.During the campaign, and even more so after his victory, the left went nuts. Everything Trump does sends them into a moral panic. Everything is a constitutional crisis.Members of the self-proclaimed "Resistance" -- journalists, politicians, professors, judges, comedians, movie stars, Twitter pundits, even Oprah and Lindsey Vonn! -- are literally shaking because Trump is literally Hitler! Now Ann Coulter skewers the various elements of "The Resistance" -- the pussy-hat brigade, the Russian-collusion witch hunters, the media alarmists, the campus hysterics, and more. They talk about Russia? They're the ones meddling with our democracy by trying to overturn the results of the election with their relentless attacks. The biggest result of the Trump era may be our cultural institutions' total loss of credibility.
Ann Hart Coulter is an American conservative media pundit, author, syndicated columnist, and lawyer. She became known as a media pundit in the late 1990s, appearing in print and on cable news as an outspoken critic of the Clinton administration. Her first book concerned the impeachment of Bill Clinton and sprang from her experience writing legal briefs for Paula Jones's attorneys, as well as columns she wrote about the cases. Coulter's syndicated column for Universal Press Syndicate appears in newspapers and is featured on conservative websites. Coulter has also written 13 books.
I find it indicative of things by how difficult it was to find this particular book here. Had I not already known about it I'd never have realized Ms. Coulter had a new book.
So, what have we here? Well first off we have a new book for people to add to the Books I'd rather die that read list here on Goodreads. We also have a book that will undoubtedly drive many folks to a complete melt down by even existing.
Look, I always advise that those who hate the book at least read it before hating it...but few do (apparently). Ms. Coulter here does what she always does and runs down uncomfortable facts, skewers those who...well who live in fantasy land.
America is in trouble (he said knowing most would read that and decide he was just "one of those crackpots"). The Democrat party has moved from "the loyal opposition" to actually seeking to take power by most any means possible.
Look I know you don't agree and want to dismiss me and this book...but just read it, okay? Who knows? I mean if it is all senescence what can be the danger in reading and trying to...think?
Not so much a pro-Trump piece as it is an anti-anti-Trump piece, Ann Coulter goes after the mainstream media and the American political left for their disgraceful hypocrisy, mendacity, and Orwellian re-writing of history when it comes to all things The Donald. Even as someone who mostly keeps up with the news, there are plenty of items here that I missed. Which is why we need pundits like Ann Coulter--to keep track of just how often and how badly the Democrat media gets things wrong, not to mention their willingness to reverse their moral stances whenever it's politically useful to do so. The political divide in this country has gotten so bad that the only thing I can do is just sit back and laugh at the absurdity of it all. I don't feel very strongly about Trump's presidency one way or the other, so I'm easily baffled by the extreme reactions to everything he does. RESISTANCE IS FUTILE! (another lousy title, always Coulter's weak point) is aggressive as hell, but the tone isn't angry the way many other Trump books are. If the implications of what is happening to Trump weren't so serious, I'd almost describe the book as playful. I mean, Trump may be comedy gold, but the people suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome are comedy platinum. Even if you're not the slightest bit interested in politics, the book will keep you turning pages through sheer entertainment value alone. But most importantly, RESISTANCE IS FUTILE! explains Trump's controversies in a way that drives home the details without seeming dry or overly academic. Unlike the mainstream media, she offers actual context for Trump's statements and actions--as opposed to the "creative editing," non sequiturs, and revisionist history that the left traffics in. I'm glad to see that Coulter's analysis of Trump has matured since the writing of IN TRUMP WE TRUST. In my estimation, RESISTANCE IS FUTILE! offers the most sensible perspective on Trump currently being presented in book format.
This is a Ann Coulter rant that equals or at least equates to the collective mind of the title.
At points it's so true in factual information yet posited in the usual Ann Coulter scorn that its "whole book" humor quotient goes yard. That's a home run for all of you non-baseball people.
It's all over the place to the practicals and actions and words of the last 2 to 2-1/2 years. Media, left, Dems- especially. And then there is my largest star subtracting factor in its organization. She spends too many asides (tangents to the title issues) to nail all the disingenuous Republicans and others who call themselves Conservative. Or label or mouth that they are- but who are not in their most visible and recent paths. Or never were.
She also has some scathing Trump analysis and hysterically funny conversational tidbits included. And at points, some rather portentous predictions.
All told it's true that the left haters have lost their collective minds. To the point that they no longer recognize rules of law or any portion of the Constitution that is baseline real, acknowledged or precedent interpreted. Ignorance in the laws, governmental structures, what "transparency" actually IS- that's been lost, along with any manners of social individual interaction with the rise of Trump hate.
Ann Coulter won a contest/ poll taken of leftist voice choices for being the author of "books I would rather die than read".
She's brilliant and she's exact in her research. The fact has become that it's not just ridicule or scorn or mocking that they hate but civil discourse itself and the data of reality (stats) which are not redefined or turned inside out. It's the real life data of outcomes that can be and are measured that she voices. And those outcomes of downward monetary and cultural disasters are provable. For instance, how true to the data it is that vast and widest diversity in culture and ethnicity improves urban or rural societies.
It's worth the read and at points extremely funny. She despises the identity politics and diversity "awareness" for exact reasons and names them. Stats of what happens in real life when they are the most "observed". Good and exact listings.
Americans have always been fond of the idea of a ragtag group of rebels working to defeat a massive empire. Currently, we have a new resistance movement, which is unlike any we have seen before. Rather than a small group of rebels, we have a resistance movement that consists mainly of the kind of people that previous resistance groups were resisting. In her book, Ann Coulter describes the collusion between the Press and Government to overthrow Donald Trump. Like all her books, it is well documented, and we'll written.
Another classic Coulter effort. 65 million "Deplorables" are being targeted by the Left and corrupt media like this country has never seen. President Trump is making the 4th branch of our government (the unelected unaccountable bureaucracy), the historically Left biased media (propaganda machine), etc.
Another classic Coulter effort. 65 million Deplorables are being targeted by the Left and the corrupt media like this country has never seen. President Trump is making the 4th branch of the government (the unelected unaccountable bureaucracy) and the media really nervous.
"Resistance Is Futile" is the usual wildly irresponsible, intermittently hateful, intellectually dishonest and often funny Ann Coulter book. In the past, I've described Coulter as a performance artist more than a pundit. What Coulter actually believes is often unclear because she's quite obviously too smart for many of her own far-right arguments. But whatever the reason for Coulter's poisonous routine, she continues to play the part, despite the toxic impact her persona has on the inflamed contemporary discourse.
From the book: "Unlike regular stupid people, who know they’re stupid, our media and showbiz elites think they’re geniuses. They have a mollusk’s grasp of historical concepts. Hitler: bad; Nazi: bad; Fascist: bad. Therefore, what’s the worst thing Trump could be? Hitler! Trump is just like Hitler..."
Mocking the Left for their hysterical, infantile over-reaction to the Trump presidency may seem like shooting fish in a barrel, but when you have such a crack-shot like Ann Coulter you savour every infuriating, face-palming moment of her new book.
Coulter's favourite target has always been the media. So this is Ann in her element, taking a flamethrower to the lies peddled by the corrupt Fake News media who have dropped all pretence of being remotely concerned with the best interests of the American people.
Overall, this is pretty lightweight stuff for Coulter compared to some of her other tomes, and can be read in a couple of hours. But she remains one of our era's most important historians. She uncovers the truth from under generations of Leftist lies and does it with wit and a highly accessible style.
Oh Ann what happened? Well actually nothing happened. Back in the 90s it wasn't difficult to catch Ann on TV. The shtick and performance was semi-entertaining, today Ann is invited on a lot less and the performance is exactly the same, Ann even looks the same, she hasn't aged a day! Care to share the secrets Ann, skin care, diet, exercise regimen? Some Botox, a nip and tuck here and there? We won't judge, at least it will be something new and maybe even interesting. Ann has become, no always was like the oversized shoes on clowns, good for a chuckle or two but just boring and annoying afterwards. Nothing has changed not even the slightest mellowing. Now back to the book it is completely unremarkable, I have already read this, yes it is exactly the same as her previous books, actually it feels deliberately constructed this way and that you the reader is the butt of a completely non-funny joke. Pick one of her books at random and you have read them all. So avoid, like seriously, you will feel annoyed and even a little angry that she has robbed some of your very limited and valuable time on this earth.
I really enjoy reading Ann's books. She has a biting sense of humor that always hits the mark and the culprits all deserve what she's dishing out. I agree with her most of the time. In this one she lashes out justifiably at the press for its abrogation of duty and wants to see it completely die and be replaced by other media which will hold to neutrality. I love the line where she likens Trump to chemotherapy. He makes you vomit but it kills the cancer and allows you to live. In this case the cancer is the fake news press. Read the book!
I have finished Resistance is Futile!: How the Trump-Hating Left Lost It’s Collective Mind (2018) by the magnificent and wise Ann Coulter.
This is a full account of the ‘Russian Influence’ on the 2016 election, of the effect of the Clinton and FBI sponsored Steele Russia dossier, of the effect that Comey had on everything, and about the activities of Mueller.
It is also an analysis of what Trump has and has not done. There would be no other detailed or full account of everything involving Trump, Clinton, Comey, and Mueller that the Fake News media consistently misreports and lies about.
It was interesting that most of the media hysteria about Russian collusion involving Trump was created firstly by the absurd Steele dossier, and then by Comey lying to Congress or not fully answering questions. Critically, one week after Comey was fired, Rosenstein appointed Mueller. Rosenstein also later signed off on the baseless warrant to raid Cohen’s offices.
Trump has caused most of the trouble himself. There is zero evidence of any wrongdoing by Trump, but he should have fired Rosenstein and Sessions the same day that he fired Comey. Ann Coulter suggests that Trump should now congratulate Mueller on a job well done and shut him down.
Ann Coulter always wants Trump to stick to his campaign promises. She is always objectively critical of the Washington GOP, the Fake News media, and the Democrats.
If I could give this a negative rating I would. It's a text that is essentially an endless stream of lies, complaining, lies, insults, and idiocy.
Oh, and lies. Did I mention the lies? You cannot go 5 pages without an absurd accusation beating you over the head and forcing you to engage in a impromptu Google research project to see what the hell Ann Coulter is talking about (I'll save you the time: Ann Coulter was either wrong, lieing, or taking information wildly out of context).
My breaking point was right around the time she began defending the United The Right rally in Charlottesville, enthusiastically declaring there was nothing racist about them and their marching. I couldn't help but notice that she forgot to mention what it is they where chanting During their March. It was: "BLOOD AND SOIL" and "JEWS WILL NOT REPLACE US".
At that point, I just abandoned trying to look into ANY of Ann Coulter's claims or taking her seriously as a political writer.
My impression is that she is a liar and a propagandist (and a profoundly boring and unfunny one at that).
I powered through this "book" at double playback speed while doing things that where more fun than it (like folding laundry). Even under those favorable circumstances, I still consider finishing it something of an accomplishment: it certainly felt like a chore to finish it up.
This "book" is a hard pass from me. Avoid it like the plague.
At this point not even life support could keep the "Russian Narrative" alive. That is if we're honest. Ann Coulter does a superb job at showing this. And how if there's any collusion it comes from the camps of the DNC, Hillary Clinton's failed campaign and self funded dossier, biased FBI agents and various outpost of the lamestream media. The author is right that the left has lost it's collective mind, it's very alarming that opposition to the POTUS means the narrative is more important than the actual evidence. Hatred is so rabid among the left that they'll insanely run with fabrications to topple someone they hate. I don't think there's been a time where I've heard so much narrative and allegations, and these are BIG allegations against President Trump, but so little evidence presented. It's almost like the left believes that if you repeat a lie long enough it will become true. Maybe that's what they're banking on. We should all be worried for our republic when a freely elected POTUS is being investigated by political opponents in such a soviet manner. At this point it's fair to ask.....hey want are you investigating Trump for? I assume the answer would be.....well Russia of course....or at this point anything until we find something. That's unAmerican and Orwellian.
There are plenty of things to criticize Trump over, but the media freaks out because he had two ice creams. How about you talk about Trump bombing Syria? Or something more meaningful than, "Can you believe Trump did this crude thing?!"
And the "Russian collusion" in the election was a couple of memes shared on Facebook.
Overall, great book. Ann Coulter is saucy and fabulous, as usual. She brings jokes and a thousand examples to illustrate her points.
I’ve said it before: liberals absolutely hate Ann Coulter, but they can’t argue with her facts. So they attack her personally. She doesn’t seem to mind, but goes merrily on with book after book. I’ve read most of them, and enjoyed them immensely. This one was no exception.
Weaponizing of various government agencies against DJT Reviewed in the United States on October 17, 2020 Book Review Resistance is Futile 5 stars A documentation of the weaponizing of government agencies against DJT. *******
231 pages of prose over 22 chapters= 10.5 pages per chapter.
The whole book can be read in a couple of afternoons.
My hat is off to Ann Coulter for the yeoman's work that she did in compiling all of this information and making all of these connections. (It has the feeling of someone's reading about 2,000 pages worth of newspaper every single week for 3 or 4 years.)
Because the title is not clear, let me point out that: this is essentially documentation of the weaponizing of various government agencies-- at first against the Donald Trump campaign, and then later against Donald J Trump as Head of State.
*******
It's fun to read, but a lot of this stuff really isn't new.
Theme #1: Who is the enemy only depends on context. So, Vietnam was public enemy number one all during the Vietnam war but then they were repurposed as an ally against the currently nascent China.
Russia was the darling of all left-wing people from the time of the Rosenbergs... until the very moment that Russia was seen as helping Trump win the country.
Wikileaks was the best thing since sliced bread (in the eyes of left-wing people)...... until they spilled the beans on DNC corruption.
Theme #2: Different processes, same result. The United States media is "free." But, the end result is that only about 1% of what they say is true-- and that's on a good day. The Chinese media is an arm of the Chinese government, and 1% of what they say is true-- on a good day.
People can elect their leaders, but in reality the government is run for the benefit of a small number of people. (Just like in China or Vietnam.)
Theme #3: City and coastal people have irrational contempt for people that they see as the "hoi polloi."
Victor Dave Hanson filled up an entire book about Trump's victory as a way for "flyover country" to strike back against the coastal elite.
Much of the same story (=contemptuous sneering) can be told in China with coastal cities (Shanghai / Fuzhou/ Guangzhou) that bear no resemblance to the inland parts of the country.
Theme #4: Similar-to-each-other Strange White People making enemies of each other for no reason that an outsider can discern.
The Jewish Rosenbergs passed atomic information to Russians against the United States-- even though the largest Jewish population in the world at that time was in the United States, and the Tsar/Russian Empire spent/ had spent several centuries trying to persecute Jews to the point of annihilation.
These Eastern European countries have fractured so many times that "balkanization" is their contribution to the world.
So, the latest paragraph in this seemingly interminable volume is: people that speak the same language and go to the same churches turning each other into enemies over Gd knows what.
Theme #5: These intelligence agencies (FBI/CIA, etc) are fabulously inept.
Even though there's nobody who knows that they cannot discover the future (because they could not discover the past).... just the same, people will read their assessment reports with the same seriousness as "some people" read the Quran.
Theme #6: Countries Just Fall Apart. Roman Empire. Ottoman Empire. Austro-hungarian Empire. Chinese Empire (several times--even though China really was the "center of the world" during the Tang Dynasty).
And in that way, Ann Coulter's observations about the United States are simultaneously very alarming--and very trivial.
Eventually, the country will collapse and someone will get a chance to make the same mistakes all over again. (It could also be 50 or 60 years worth of chaos from one government to another, as frequently happens. There were 53 years between the end of the Tang Dynasty and the arrival of the Song.)
Theme #7: If enough of your Chattering Classes believe something, reality really can be stood on its head.
Long forgotten people (like Sidney Shapiro, Anna Louise Strong, and Edgar Snow's fictitious/hagiographic accounts of Communist countries) created a *completely fictitious* reality, and we seem to have forgotten about them.
"Palestine" is a kingdom that never existed that commanded over subjects that never existed /still don't exist ("Palestinians"), but some number of academics/journalists have successfully talked them into reality. (Whom do you know that is able to find even a single coin from such a kingdom? and yet, who do you know that does not talk about them as if they really exist?)
It's not even that every single statement that Donald Trump makes is "reinterpreted" in the worst way possible. It is that interviews are edited in such a way as to create a completely false impression.

Lessons learned/reviewed:
1. Mainstream news media provides less useful information than reruns of "The Price Is Right."Or, a blank TV screen, for that matter.
2. We've not had a TV in our place in the last 6 years (at the request of The Rabbi), and that has been some of the most productive time ever spent.
3. The US ain't got much of nothin' on African countries in terms of corruption.
4. Qinshihuang (The First Emperor), when he came to power, just executed all Chattering Class people with contrary opinions--because he knew that talking heads are a really great way to destroy a state.
Of course, we don't do that these days in Western countries... But one can see his point.
I've been a fan of Ann Coulter's pretty much since her first book. And I've read every one since with a single exception: In Trump We Trust. I couldn't bring myself to read it and, truth be told, I lost a lot of respect for her since. If there is one thing I do love about her (other than her humor) is that she does her research and regularly provides example after example to illustrate what she's talking about. And Resistance is no different.
You don't have to be a Trump lover to appreciate Resistance. This book isn't so much about Trump as it is about the left-wing mob (another great Coulter book!) and their anything-goes approach to taking down Trump and anything remotely conservative. Coulter shows time and time again that the principles liberals stand on only go as far as their ability to achieve a goal. Once the principle is no longer effective, it is abandoned and replaced by a new principle, often contradictory.
For those who take what they hear from liberals blindly, Resistance can be a real eye-opener. Unfortunately, many conservatives (Coulter included) need an eye-opener themselves as the right has begun full-scale adoption of the left's tactics, and have already begun to lose their collective minds as well.
Resistance is Futile is essentially Ann Coulter's repudiation of the Russian investigation, the Democratic establishment, and the media. Coulter does a good job in providing research and stark examples of media figures getting things wrong not just in reference to Russia but other matters. She also highlights certain hypocrisies that Democratic politicians have when it comes to foreign policy and law enforcement. Unfortunately, she depends heavily on cherry picking inconveniently forgets the hypocrisies on the other side of the political spectrum.
Especially curious is her defense of J Edgar Hoover wiretapping Martin Luther King but her staunch disagreement with the justice department wiretapping the Trump campaign. Make no mistake about it, this woman has some wild viewpoints that I disagree with strenuously.
At the end of the day, if you are a conservative, this book is no doubt entertaining and engaging and provides good examples of media malfeasance. The underlying message however is nothing special and is better expressed in Noam Chomsky's Manufacturing Consent. However, for what it's supposed to be it's a solid book.
Ann Coulter's take on the 2016 election and its aftermath. A lot of this ground has been covered in her previous books, but there are enough fresh insights that make it well worth reading, considering that her previous two books predicted both Donald Trump's election and what the left's mob-like reaction to that would be.
As always, she backs up even her most provocative statements with well-documented facts.
The Resistance is Futile is conservative political commentator Ann Coulter’s look at the opposition forces against President Donald Trump’s agenda. The so called “Resistance” is a collection of liberal professors, cable news pundits, left wing celebrities, rouge judges and media personalities who have made it their mission to oppose President Trump by any means necessary. Regardless of the trivial endless circles of investigations which have yielded no wrong doing the Resistance must shape the narrative that President Trump is guilty of something; if Trump didn’t collude with the Russians than he must have abused women, if Trump didn’t abuse women, then he must cheat at golf, etc. The Resistance has responded with outrage, panic and hyperventilating with every action taken by President Trump. Unlike previous Republican Presidents who normally are accused of an allegation then quickly backpedal and retreat, President Trump has shown a willingness to fight back head on. As usual Coulter uses a tongue in cheek approach in her writing as she provides clear and well researched explanations of how the Resistance forces are working to invalidate and disrupt Donald Trump’s presidency.
This was a DNF. It could’ve used an editor - or a reader who excels at reading rambling rants. I had so much trouble following the flow of logic that I finally gave up. I’ve not had this trouble with her other books so I think, as she mentions, this book was rushed to print.
I love Ann Coulter. This is probably my least favorite book of hers. But still essential reading for those who blindly believe whatever liberal crap they hear on the News. (probably most people).
An excellent book from Ms. Coulter which unfortunately will probably only be read by those already on the anti-Resistance side but it should be read by everyone who has the faintest concern for the state of the mass media and the totally lopsided views they present. I am a Brit living in the UK and ever since DT first began making real waves in early 2016 I have been and continue to be astounded at the way he, his ideas, and his supporters are portrayed in our media - almost every newspaper and magazine and of course our state-owned liberal broadcaster -BBC. Everyone remotely left of right seems to view this man as a sort of Hitler figure - even someone like Stephen Pinker who was I thought fairly sensible completely ruined his last book Enlightment Now by continually sliding off into rants at what this man MIGHT do. For heaven's sake what have they been teaching people about Nazism and totalitarianism and dictatorship at schools and colleges for the past 50 years?
All these people who call themselves AntiFa ought to find time to read some properly balanced history and think hard about what Fascism and totalitarianism and dictatorshipand free speech really are. Otherwise they may wake up one day and find themselves living in a world that they have wished upon themselves and will come to rue.
Ms. Coulter's book is a great summary of some of the utter nonsense that has passed and continues to pass as fact and news and is of course nothing of the sort. Her final chapter is also a brilliantly and concise reminder of what the real threats are and where they are undoubtedly going to come from ... and it won't be from DT or Russia.
The book deals how partisan this whole Russian collusion investigation thing was. How the mainstream American press fully exposed themselves that they are nothing more than the propaganda wing for the DNC due to their sheer hate for Donald Trump. For conservatives and people on the Right all these things are nothing new but Ann reveals some information about what went on with the Steele Dossier, the people behind the investigations, and its parallel with Watergate. Information that I did not know. My only 'concern' with the book is the writing. This is the first Ann Coulter book I have read and I am not sure how her other books were written but this reads like a transcript sometimes. I keep imagining that I am watching a video of Ann Coulter in Youtube and reading the captions. That might be a plus for her readers and fans and its quite fun but I find myself distracted by it sometimes.
I love Ann Coulter... when I first heard of her, she sounded horrible. She sounded like she was a "far out there" nut-job. In fact, I picked up her book to read (not this one) mainly to see how a crazy person speaks. Instead, I found logic an common sense. Though shocked, I was a fan...
This book is as good. Here she takes on the crazy "resistance at all cost" opposition to Trump. It is clear in this book that she has lost faith in President Trump. That doesn't, however, mean she is going to let off the left side and all the horrible tactics they are doing to discredit and silence conservative voices.
Coulter is often a shock-queen. However, her final chapter and what she says needs to be done to fix the problem with the media is shocking... I agree with her... but it is shocking. I shan't tell you, however, because I don't want to give away any spoilers.
Ann beautifully and hilariously summarizes how those within (what she terms) the "Resistance" have lost their mind when it comes to The 45th's leadership and actions following the outcome of the 2016 POTUS elections. The chapters are short and fun to read. As always, Coulter's works cited are exhaustive and her claims are well researched and are substantiated as in evidence in the notes following the books final chapter. Ann style of writing is easy to read, but at times hard to follow bc she interjects her prose with her own self-dialogue... so without hearing her, via her audiobook, some passages are awkward in text format. Nevertheless the book highlights the lefts asinine rhetoric in the wake of Trumps presidency. I like Ann's take on it all bc she is funny, and she puts things into perspective and context, with regard to the lefts talking points about Trump.
I found this book very difficult to read, due mainly to the use of hyperbolic language throughout. While reading, I get the feeling that the author is constantly shouting at me. The author accuses “the left” of singlemindedly lambasting Trump. Yet, the author of this book is singlemindedly lambasting the FBI and attacking the press. The book is essentially an unbalanced and frustrated rant. Throughout, the author serves up an endless array of historical tidbits dating back to the Clinton, the Nixon and even the Johnson eras. I find that all these digressions do not add weight or value to the arguments being made and they make reading even more tedious. At the end of the book I am none the wiser, having learned only that Ann Coulter believes the FBI are making a mess of it, the media should be destroyed, and we should not worry about Russia.
