Men, Mobsters, and Murder! Poor Maureen. Was she just collateral damage?
This is the seventh book in the Northwest Cozy Mystery Series by USA Today and Amazon Chart #1 Bestselling Author, Dianne Harman.
Men loved Maureen, but was that why she was killed? She had an ex who wanted to reconcile, a chef she'd broken up with, and a salesman from Missouri who had fallen in love with her. Her brother-in-law had ties to the Mafia as well as some interesting business deals. Was she simply a pawn in their game? And what about Leslie, her ex-husband's fiancée? She wasn't too thrilled when Mac broke off the engagement to reconcile with Maureen. Plenty of suspects, but who's the murderer?
Al De Duco, a retired mobster, has taken over Jake's private investigation firm while Jake's helping a friend. Mobsters have a different way to deal with murderers. Sometimes they revert to old habits.
Join Al, his food critic bride, and his Doberman pinscher as they hunt for the killer in this page-turning cozy mystery.
Why would anyone want to kill Maureen when every man she’s been dating, including her ex-husband, supposedly loved her? That’s the mystery that Al (who used to date Maureen’s sister Kitten), Luke and Rob attempt to solve with the help of Al’s new wife Cassie and their canine sidekick, Red. Al has taken over his friend Luke’s PI business while he and his wife are away, helping a friend.
Filled with quirky characters and laced with humor and drama, along with a little bit of romance, Murder At The Waterfront is a fast paced and easy to follow cozy mystery that’s just plain fun to read. And plus the author even includes some great recipes in the back of her books!
It’s the first Dianne Harmon story that I’ve read, but it certainly won’t be my last. Entertaining, light reading for vacation or even a day at the beach.
This is the second book I’ve read by this author. I absolutely LOVE her work. It always leaves me with a pleasant warm feeling, like I’ve been in company with a dear long time friend. My favorite thing about her books is how she sets up her characters. I feel like we not only get to know them, but also see who our possible suspects will be. It’s such a tidy and uniques way of writing. I can’t get enough!
I was heading to my son's house on vacation and knew I would be driving for at least 6 hours so I decided to listen to an audiobook in the car. Not that my youngest son (33) would want to hear it so I decided to be a passenger so I could put the headphones on and listen.
I picked this book and thoroughly enjoyed it. it kept my mind off the long hours in the car. I found myself feeling so sorry for Kitten, Maureens sister. I also found myself trying to figure out who would want to kill Maureen. She had several men friends at the same time while she was trying to get her exhusband back so it gave me a list of suspects.
You gotta love Al De Duco, an ex Mob enforcer with a heart of gold. Don't believe me? Well just ask the dogs--and dogs are NRVER wrong!! His boss died and he decided to go straight-(unless someone was causing him to have to go get and or save them)-then he decided to marry the woman of his dreams and somewhat settled down. He was busy spending all the money he made as a mobster. Luckily his wife could control him with the spending.
Who better to take over Jake's PI business while he had to go away for awhile. Of course Al does not follow the rules--and he reverts to his background when he has to find out who murdered Maureen, a woman with many men friends--some of whom Al knew from days gone by. Hey--have you ever known the mob NOT to get to the bottom of whatever it is they are trying to find out--me either!
I am so glad Dianne Harman decided to devote an entire book to Al De Duco--he is one character you are not likely to forget. I truly hope she continues to put him into this series a lot! Murder at the Waterfront
Murder at the Waterfront is different than the six books that came before in the Northwest Cozy Mystery series by Dianne Harman. In this book, Dee Dee and Jake are now married and living in Connecticut while Jake helps a friend with his PI business. They are secondary characters in this story. Instead the action revolves around the Waterfront Place housing development. After a party there one night, Maureen Knight, 55 year old sister of Kitten (Al's ex), is found shot to death. Al De Duco and ex-cop Luke are needed to solve the mystery and discover who wanted Maureen gone bad enough to kill her. As always there isn't a shortage of possible suspects, especially men who loved Maureen. This book like the others before it, has a nice flow, can be read in one sitting, and leaves you wanting to know what happens to the characters next!
Maureen and Kitten were sisters. They all lived in a fancy apartment building each on a different floor. Maureen was a divorced lady who still loved her X husband. She also loved meeting and dating men all the time. Some people didnt like her for that. She still did date her X tho and a few other men at the time she was murdered. Kitten and her friends did an investigation on all the men her sister was dating. Also her X husbands girlfriend ,the one who broke up Maureens marriage also was a suspect.
Maureen looking for love, since her husband left her for the secretary. Now he wants her back and the feeling is mutual. She has had plenty of men admire her, some that didn’t want it to end. The other people in this story, a case of them having dated, ex’s now remarried, been in the mob, plenty of money. The life of the rich was shown here. Who did it, there was a long list. Her’s are always enjoyable, and a mystery to solve.
Jake and DeeDee are in Connecticut covering the P.I. office of a friend of Jake's whose wife is dying so he can spend time with her and their children. Meanwhile Am is covering for Jake at his office. The story involves some of his old job acquaintances and the murder of the sister of a woman he once seriously dated who is now married to a former associate. Interesting story.
I didn’t know Al had it in him.. I didn’t think I would like the book because DeeDee and Jake weren’t the main characters. But Al, Cassie, Luke, Rob, Brianna, and Red did a great job! Loved the storyline. And the recipes were nice. I liked the battered shrimp and the pork tenderloin. I’m actually going to try them. I want to try something different with pork. And because of this pandemic this gives me the chance to do so!!
I love the characters Ale,Luke,Ale wife cassie how they unravel who murder the victim the curves and tells of everyone involved until the very end you laugh you get involved to find the killer. I can't wait for the next one. So who ever reads this wonderful book enjoy laugh ,and love
I have read all her books and and everyone of them have been great. The different characters in each series are great and so are their dogs. I highly recommend all her books to everyone who love cozy mysteries and great recipes. Diana Romano
Although I miss ed DeeDee and Jake in this story I was happy to see Luke and Brianna appearing more. The mystery was good but I did guess pretty early on who did it. I must say I'm glad it wasn't one of the other suspects as I didn't really like them. Looking forward to the next book
I was disappointed with the book. Usually, I like Dianne Harman 's books. But the fake Italian just turned me off especially the use of Ima instead of I'm. It just seemed irritated me and I focus on that rather than the story. I almost gave it a1 but the story is good a d the ending surprising.
What a nice surprised, just figured the story would be in Connecticut with our main characters, but what a fun surprise to have Al who has taken the PI work over for Jake & our beloved DeeDee while they are away. Thank you Dianne. I am excited to read future stories with Al in the lead with his 2 top guys Luke & Rob.
This is the 7th in the series. The main character is Al DeDuco. Al and his wife are invited to a party at a new upscale apartment complex . Shortly after they leave there is a murder in the building of the owner's sister-in-law. Al is hired to figure who did it and why. Can he figure this out in time?
All of Dianne’s mysteries are good! They usually have lots of humor and one dog or more in the story. This one was enjoyable! Al and Cassie get to star in this one. Al’s old girlfriend’s sister is murdered. The story has many possible twists to it and there are quite a few people who could have wanted to kill Maureen. The characters are all fun, especially Al.
Seventh book in the Northwest cozy mystery series takes place at a waterfront condo in Seattle. With DeeDee and Jake back east, Al takes over as a PI investigating the murder of his old girlfriend sister. There are several Characters with motive for murder, so Al has his work cut out to find out who did.
I was pretty excited to read this book because of the setting and the author being a local but the writing style just wasn’t for me. I felt like there were two many POV and it didn’t feel super cozy to me. Also I hate when accents are written out. Just use descriptive words to tell me what accent the character is speaking with.
I miss DeeDee and Jake but it's fun to get to know Al and Cassie a little bit better. I'll miss Balto almost as much as Al will. Hope everyone will be together again soon.
I loved this latest Northwest Cozy, starring Al, Cassie, and Red. Suspense pulls you through this very intriguing storyline with fascinating characters. This book is recommended for cozy mystery fans.
The main characters are not in this story but the secondary characters do and outstanding job of entertaining you. This is stall a Great Series. I love all the characters in this and couldn't put it down once I sat down to read it. Great Reading Everyone!
I love how D. Harman writes Al's dialog! I can just picture him sitting with Cassie. The inclusion of the very different dogs is another of my favorite part of her stories.
I like this series but this one was a little different because it didn't star Dee Dee and Jack but Al and Luke. I liked the story line though a little slow to start off with. I love Al and his macho exterior and teddy bear interior. A good read.
Ms Harman was just floored me with her unusual writing skills. I have not ever read a book where the main character is not in the story. It was still a great story. She went into a lot of detail to describe the suspects. It was really great and I couldn’t put the book down!
Another cozy mystery in Seattle. From Bainbridge Island to downtown Seattle, what a lifestyle. Always several murder suspects but Al always finds the killer. You don’t have to read these in order but it helps.
Diane Harman starts this page turner from the start. It's a light murder mystery that keeps you engaged but doesn't bog you down. I like reading quick reads that are entertaining.
This book moves along the storyline from the other books, only in this one DeeDee and Jake aren’t around to help solve a murder. They moved to Connecticut and now I wonder if they’ll come back to Bainbridge island or not in future books in this series.
Once again you haven't failed to write a great story.. It was complex mystery as so many people had murder in their minds but only one of them took it a step further
Another great story in this series, this time it's about Al De Duco, former mobster turn PI, who solves a murder... awesome storyline, characters and humor.
