After a series of assassinations rocks Calgary’s underworld, Detective Lane is conscripted along with his husband Arthur into working undercover to seek out links in the Mexico - Canada drug connection and stop the violence. As tensions mount back in Canada and outright war on the streets seems imminent, the laconic detective and his allies must use some unorthodox tactics to avert disaster in the Gulf of California and dismantle the cartel.
This one is between three and four stars for me. However, I found that I started reading it in the later afternoon one day then read and read and suddenly I was done and it was time for bed. So, definitely an engaging and engrossing read, so that rounds up to four any day. I do enjoy hearing about the ins and outs of Lane and his family and relationships, but I liked that this book also had a good serving of mystery to it. I am looking forward to the next one in the series.
This is one of the best series in this genre that l have read. The writing style is seemingly a little convoluted at first but it draws you in and keeps you there. The characters have heart and depth. The stories interesting page turners. I read them all in about a week and l am very keen to read the next in the series.
