About the author!

I was diagnosed with clinical depression after the loss of my mother, father and husband within three years of each other; all to cancer. 24/7 in-home care, coupled with the loss I felt, left its mark on my psyche.

Depression takes up a lot of my life. Reading and writing are the only things I have found that help (in connection with regular medication), even if only for a short time. To escape to a different world can make a big difference in my mood in real time.

To put things in perspective, when I was at my lowest point, I couldn't open mail, talk on the phone, or even drive to the store. Walls of sadness surrounded me. As they closed in, tears would fall. There didn't need to be a reason or trigger.

People ask me why I started writing. My answer is simple: I wanted to create a world into which other people with similar problems could escape. I wanted to share the one place that had helped me for many years.

I have always said that as long as one person finds a little bit of happiness out of my books, I am, in my opinion, an accomplished author. The same is true for every writer out there. Please don't ever let anyone tell you different.

I read books as well as write them and have visited the worlds many different authors have created. Those worlds not only make me feel better, but give me the strength to face real life again. I want to thank everyone who writes - I want them to know they are making a difference.

Thank you for reading and writing.

Would you pick magic or emotion?

That is the question in this book. It is my first by this author, but I'll certainly try others as it was a fun (but super quick) read.

I typically prefer dialogue on the first page but I enjoyed the descriptive start to this one. The walk of shame was a great intro to the author’s spin on the world of faerie/ fairy.

The story moves along at a nice pace which is always good. The magical world feels old and well-developed and would be a great place for additional stories. Adelia definitely stands out in her magical world with her fear and emotions, but it also makes her an interesting lead. The descriptions are well-written which is good as there are a lot of them. An invisible faerie has little dialogue when first in the human world. I did enjoy the little philosophical bits that were part of her take on the world of man.

Every book has typos so they only bother me if there are a lot of them. There aren’t many in this book, but this one made me laugh – ‘take Adelia’s waste’ (not waist – LOL)!

Anyway, this was a fun, quick read. If you enjoy magical worlds, give this one a try!

This fun and delightful short story follows the brief career of a faerie named Adelia who is promoted from imaginary friend status to being a cupid. But when a co-worker's arrow hits the wrong target, it's Adelia who must fix his mistake.

I found the world building and the character of Adelia to be quite well done. She was witty and dynamic and you grew to like her very quickly. The author has a terrific imagination and I loved her twist on the position of faeries in the human universe. The story of how the "Tooth Fairy" came to be was hysterical. However, I felt the jump from Adelia's point of view to her co-worker's (Junapree) came far too soon and was rather abrupt. Since this was a short story, I would have preferred that the author take more time focusing on Adelia's character arc, then maybe have a brief coda with Junapree.

I do think this has the makings of a novel since it's pretty obvious the author has done some serious world building in the background. Why not take advantage of that? Otherwise, nice job.

Entertaining little story...

I had read When Leaves Fall by C.A., and thought it was excellent so I decided to dig deeper into her catalog. Shot Through the Heart was much different in style and content, however every bit as good in its own way. The basis of the story is how fairies who are touched with magic and mortals who are given the ability to feel emotions, coexist on the same world. Interesting characters and a genuine concept make this short little romp an enjoyable escape...

“Shot Through the Heart” is an interesting and original take on a world of fairies and their interactions with the human world. Tooth fairy turns out to be not what you’d expect it to be, and cupids can make much more of a mess than expected. The idea of a “fairy court” and their “sentencing” of the main protagonist was also incredibly interesting, and the ending - very well thought out and satisfying. Recommended!

This is only a short story but it’s fills a gap. The author covers a different aspect of Cupid and fairies and what happens when things go wrong.
The pace is easy goimg and you don’t need to think too hard about this book.

I really enjoyed this sweet short story about the magical world and what it means to be human.

It's written well and has an easy flow. It has humour yet poignant, too.

Nice lead character.

Yes, enjoyable.

This is a light, fun read that rattles along at very quick pace. It was the first thing I had read by this particular author, and I read found her writing style very easy to get on with. The tale had the same sense of inventive magic and fun that you might find in the pages of Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman (especially Stardust) and J. K. Rowling – a magical faerie world just below the surface of our own.

In this tale, a young Fae is tasked with the role of bringing two mortal lovers together with magical arrows, in a neat twist on the Cupid idea - only of course, things don’t go according to plan.

At around 56 pages, this is a quick read and could easily be read in one sitting (I paced myself over a couple of days as I didn’t want it to be over too soon), and at times I found myself wishing that the story was longer. It felt like a too-short peek into a deeper world, but one that is rich and fun and entertaining.

I would recommend this story to anyone who is a fan of faery tales and magic. Five fun stars.
