When her love life turns sour, a trip to her home town in Far North Queensland for her cousin's wedding is the perfect time for Sophie Copinni to take stock of her future. There, two weeks before she turns thirty, she finds a bucket list from her teenage years of ten things to do before that birthday. It can only be a sign from the universe. Most of the challenges are fun, although one thing on the list scares the hell out of her: she is to reveal a long-held family secret — the very reason she ran away without an explanation eight years ago; away from the love of her life, and the shores of Australia.
A road trip home for the wedding is Dylan Stone's chance to escape the shady operations he has uncovered at the Sydney tattoo parlour he runs. Back in Shorefield, surrounded by the landscape and loved ones that he's missed so fiercely, Dylan starts to realise that maybe it's time to make his homecoming permanent. But there is still the unresolved matter of Sophie — the only woman he's ever truly loved, the same woman who broke his heart and skipped town so long ago.
Dylan and Sophie try to keep their distance, but cannot deny the intense chemistry between them, and the undying love for one another that both have buried deep in their hearts. But if Sophie tackles the scariest challenge on her list, will it push Dylan away forever? And will her family ever be the same again?

In the ‘Acknowledgements’ section of her brand new novel, A Country Mile, Mandy Magro has a special wish for her all her readers. She hopes that when they pick up her latest novel they will be able to escape from the grind of daily life. Magro hopes readers of A Country Mile will laugh, cry, swoon and fall in love with the hero or heroine (or both). Well Mandy, I am happy to report you wish was definitely fulfilled for this particular reader. I experienced all these emotions and responses while reading A Country Mile.
It is best to begin with setting when reviewing A Country Mile. Magro encapsulates the natural beauty, clean fresh air and the healing quality of getting back to the basics. I loved Magro’s setting descriptions, they were authentic, vibrant and a wonderful rendition to country life in Australia.
Along with the stunning setting descriptions there is a full bodied and intriguing tale that runs right through A Country Mile. Although the overall tone of this novel is light and easy to read, there are a number of serious themes covered. Magro zones her latest story in on the criminal underworld, domestic abuse and explosive family secrets. There are moments of sadness, despair and heartache, but these are carefully balanced with glimmers of hope for the majority of the characters of this novel.
The entire character set that fill the pages of A Country Mile are well depicted. By the time I reached the end of the novel I felt like I knew the leads inside and out. Sophie is very likeable and you want her to find her Prince Charming! Dylan, the male lead, had a great back story. I liked the tough guy edge Magro added to his character. Faith was the character I felt the most for, once you discover her dire situation, you will hard pressed not to feel a great deal of sympathy for this woman. There is no doubt that the personalities of each character shines through in A Country Mile. The secondary characters compliment the overall story arc well and I enjoyed sinking my teeth into the good, as well as the bad figures of this novel.
Romance is Mandy Magro’s speciality. Magro can always be relied on to deliver a finely tuned love story. The main relationship featured in A Country Mile comes complete with a tragic past, unresolved feelings, secrets and lies. There is also a mind blowing family secret connected to the romance that I didn’t see coming! If you are a fan of second chance love stories, this one will be sure to draw appeal. I enjoyed the interplay of events in the Dylan/Sophie romance, this is perhaps the book’s strongest asset.
Mandy Magro’s stories always leave you feeling good inside. A Country Mile is another example of Magro’s signature style, she combines a genuine love of the land, with a complicated love story and she issues the reader with secondary themes that add intrigue to the overall reading experience. With a gentle touch of music thrown in for good measure, A Country Mile is another appealing read from Mandy Magro.

A Country Mile is book #56 of the Australian Women Writers Challenge
A Country Mile is about greed and how two people had a second chance of love. When Sophia Copinni and her boyfriend Zachary broke up, she decided to come home to Far North Queensland. One of Dylan Stone friend was getting married, so Dylan after coming across a shady in regards to the tattoo parlour he managers decided to go back home. However, Sophia Copinni is hiding a secret that might stop her fall in love again with her childhood friend Dylan Stone. The readers of A Country Mile will continue to follow Dylan Stone and Sophia Copinni to see what the secret is that kept them apart.
A Country Mile is another fantastic book by Mandy Magro, and I was unable to put it down until the last page. I love the way, Mandy Magro portrays her characters and intertwine them with each other. Mandy Magro did a great job of describing her setting that ensures that I became engaged with the plot. A Country Mile is well written and researched by Mandy Magro.
The readers of A Country Mile will learn about being a Tatoo artist. Also, A Country Mile highlights that you should never keep secrets from family and friends.
This has to be the best Mandy Magro book so far, I devoured it in one sitting. I loved the mystery of the secrets that we were kept guessing about until near the end, one secret I never would have guessed. I really liked both the main characters, Sophie and Dylan and was completely hopeful they would work things out and the characters that surrounded them were also interesting characters that added good dynamics to the story. I highly recommend this Aussie rural romance.
Thanks to NetGalley and Harlequin Australia for a copy in return for an honest review.
I have been so looking forward to reading another Mandy Magro book. I loved Moment Of Truth and was delighted to be chosen to read her latest offering, A Country Mile.
Lets just start with the cover art, OMG he's hot! Who could resist a handsome man on a motorbike with a sultry, bad boy look in his eye?! Then we have Sophie, the heroine who is naturally beautiful, innocent and adorable, what's not to love.
I was hooked from the very first chapter, wow, what a start! Mandy has taken us through the trials of an abusive family home and a mother desperately trying to protect her young family, to a young woman with a cheating, disrespectful boyfriend and a man being caught up in a world of drugs and crime. The lives of all characters have been entwined from very early on but will their dark secrets and family tragedies divide their lives forever? How can they ever recover from the past, and are secrets best kept quiet or will the healing finally begin?
Although I really enjoyed the story, I would have liked for the themes to be explored further. The sisters' story line was tied up very quickly, a miraculous recovery (sorry I can't expand on this, I'm trying not to give anything away here!) and I would have loved to hear more of the parents' futures. They all went through devastating times, how have they coped? As I see it, there could easily be a sequel to this story.
I applaud Mandy for another wonderful book. I read this book in a single day as I couldn't put it down and was always wondering what would happen next.
I am most grateful to Beauty and Lace Bookclub and Mira - Harlequin Australia for the opportunity to read this book, thank you.
Mandy Magro has always been a favourite author of mine – I must admit I stalked the postie for days!
I sat down one night while my partner was working in the shed – I thought I would read a couple of chapters and then start cooking dinner…. yet again I was wrong with another 9pm dinner (and a basic one at that!)
I couldnt stop at just those two chapters, I needed to know more!
Not just your standard romance, the twists and turns leave you wanting more! I really enjoyed the story line and I so hope there is a sequel – the last page was my least favourite – because I wanted to know what happened next!
Thanks for another great book Mandy – can’t wait for the next!
This book was amazing from the very first page it had me hook, line and sinker wanting to read more. The story line was absolutely beautiful and character’s so well described you felt like you where their. A Country Mile had me sometimes in fits of laughter to sitting on the edge of my seat to sitting on the lounge with a nice glass of wine. I totally did not want to put this book down.
Thanks so much to Beauty & Lace Book Club and to Harlequin books. Totally loved it.
Sophie Copinni and Dylan Stone were best friends growing up who embarked on a teenage romance, they were perfect for each other and very much in love until Sophie broke it off out of the blue and moved to London. She devastated Dylan and things have been very tense the couple of times they have had to see one another in the ensuing years.
A wedding approaches between Sophie’s cousin and Dylan’s best mate and that means that they will have to see each other again, and be paired in the bridal party. Both Sophie and Dylan have gone on to lead very different lives, and now find themselves at a very similar crossroad considering a permanent move back to their small hometown. I think that A Country Mile shows great growth in Magro’s storytelling, I found it to be a much deeper story and some of the little things that have bugged me previously in her books were much less pronounced. Dialogue can be tricky to nail in a way that feels authentic and though there were still times I had to wonder if people really talk like that, on the most part I did find it more authentic; though sometimes it still felt a little too-Aussie. Mandy is a big romantic at heart with a belief in soulmates and that once in a lifetime soul-deep love, and that shines brightly in this story; maybe more so than her other books I have read. There are secrets, lies and twists in A Country Mile that kept me guessing throughout and they make it a little tricky to review well without spoilers. What I can say is that there were some double standards when it came to secrets that did grate a little but in the big scheme that was pretty minor. The storyline was quite focussed on Sophie and Dylan which left the secondary characters quite shadowy, we didn’t get to know them very well and I think there was scope to explore them a little more deeply. A Country Mile is a very serious storyline, when you get into the secrets, and I loved following along to try and work out what was going on. The secrets piled up and poor Sophie soon became the secrets vault and it was a role she wasn’t happy with, there is only so long you can be the keeper of secrets before something has to give; especially if they are secrets you don’t believe should be kept secret. I thought the pacing was pretty steady and unfolded as I would expect but then there seemed to be a lot jammed in the last 50 or so pages. The ending was quite rushed and a big event completely changed the trajectory of what was going on. It made sense the way it played out but it seemed quite rushed. Once again Magro has painted a vivid picture of the small town setting, making readers fall in love with the small town of Shorefield with it’s open paddocks and gorgeous beaches. A Country Mile was certainly a ride worth taking and a story I enjoyed, it was at times a little predictable but then some of the twists were completely out of left field. The mystery was well revealed and the secrets just kept piling up, though some things happened and then were almost forgotten from the story, some to resolve later and some were just gone and that seemed a little of an oversight. There were some elements that left me with questions but I think that could be just me overthinking things a little. I enjoyed A Country Mile, and I’m enjoying watching the growth and maturity in Magro’s storytelling which will definitely have me looking out for her future books. Overall I think this is a solid read and I would recommend it.
I received A Country Mile by Mandy Magro from Beauty and Lace Book Club to read and do an honest Review. What a wondeful read by a highly talented writer. Sophie Copinni has it all. A loving partner. A great career. A wonderful life in London. When it all falls to pieces she returns to her hometown in Far North Queensland. Not long after, Dylan Stone arrives. They are both in a Wedding Party but they have history. A hot and passionate love affair 8 years previously was cut short and Sophie ran away. Dylan was heartbroken and doesn't know why this happened. This reuinion is a perfect chance for them to rekindle their romance, but can Dylan forgive Sophie for breaking his heart? He knows Sophie is not telling him the full truth and is determined to find out why. The way Mandy Magro has filled the pages with the love and family support, lies and secrets will have you thinking you know what is going to happen. You are so wrong. There are unexplained twists that will have you so engrossed you won't see them coming. Very easy to read and highly recommended
A Country Mile by Mandy Magro has it all - love in its many forms, secrets, family, heartbreak, redemption and that elusive x-factor that makes you want to keep reading.
Mandy Magro's storytelling is authentic, heartwarming (but not in a kitsch way) and the description makes you feel as if you're there breathing in the humidity and watching it unfold. It is a book that is very easy to read and very easy to get lost in. I was only going to read the first chapter, next thing I knew I was halfway through the book.
This is the first book of Mandy Magro's that I have read and I now look forward to reading many more of her books. Thanks Harlequin Mira and Beauty & Lace Bookclub for introducing me to another great author.
Another great read with ultra-sexy heroes who happen to be holding secrets close to their six pack chests. Bucket list, long lost loves, running for safety all indicate it's time to come home and settle down. Settle down with the chocolate block and enjoy a fast ride on the back of the motorcycle.
'A Country Mile' has it all - secrets dripping in suspense, drama, humour and hot, steamy love! This one from the pen of Mandy Magro is not be missed!
Sophie and Dylan's love story starts in their teen years, but when Sophie suddenly upends Dylan's world with her dramatic break up, he is left devastated.
Sophie is the Secret Keeper. 'Secrets. Everyone has at least one...' but to her it feels like that is all she is to everyone - the Keeper of Secrets.
It all began when as a young 17 year old girl she accidentally overheard her parents talking in the middle of the night...
Vowing to keep their secret safe and the presence of a secret letter, the words she knew off by heart, she leaves her family and the boy she loves behind and sets off for the UK. When her life there goes pear-shaped, she returns home to Australia to face an uncertain future and comes face-to-face with the boy she left behind. But he was no longer the boy she left behind, he was now a man and gorgeous one to boot! The man she realised she still loved with all her heart, yet the secrets in heart is too much to bear...
Dylan knows that he still has feelings for the girl who broke his heart at 17, but can he trust her when it seems that she is still withholding something from him? Although, he does have some secrets of his own and he would do everything to protect those he loves!
For Dylan there has only ever been Sophie! The spark of attraction is still there and he senses that he isn't the only one who feels that way when he looks into Sophie's eyes.
What can be said about secrets when all they do is break up families, causing heartache and mistrust?
Dylan Stone and Sophie Copinni were destined to be together. Each other's true love's, the future seemed bright. Until the day Sophie broke Dylan's heart. What's worse is that she couldn't reveal the real reason why.
Many years later, Sophie is living in the UK and is going through another break-up. With this and an upcoming trip home for her cousin's wedding, Sophie decides to make the trip permanent. Two weeks before her thirtieth, Sophie finds the bucket list she made as a teenager. Among the really fun challenges are some tough ones that she really must face up to.
Dylan has also returned home... And he's brought a huge problem with him. As a tattooist in Kings Cross, Dylan has himself caught up with the law. Witness to a drug deal, then accused of theft, Dylan has to watch his back. If the police catches wind of this problem, it's bad news for Dylan. Twenty years ago, Dylan was witness to his father's death. To this day, only a few people know what happened that night... And so does Sophie. But that's not the reason why she broke it off- a threatening letter from Dylan's cousin Grace was.
As Dylan and Sophie reconnects and their love is reignited, all is threatened when secrets are revealed and Angus turns up wanting to settle the score....
Another brilliant read by the Queen of Australian rural romance! There is the right blend of romance, mystery and crime in this one so there should be something for everyone. Mandy always draws me in with her writing and 𝔸 ℂ𝕠𝕦𝕟𝕥𝕣𝕪 𝕄𝕚𝕝𝕖 is no exception!
Mandy Magro does it again. Her books are light romance reading, with an Australian filter. Though we do get some innuendo filled sex scenes. (Have recently found that the author has done sex guide book as well...) In this tale, two previous love birds had a secret tear their happiness apart, and the female lead fled to England. Almost 10 years later, having broke up with her cheating boyfriend, she returns home. As does her high school sweetheart. But they are both sporting some huge secrets, can they get past them and be a couple again?
Of course they can. Why would we be reading this if it wasnt going to happen? If you want some "not quite believable", "filled with corny lines", and this only happens to pretty people - formula led writing... this novel is for you. And who am I kidding, of course I love reading that the beautiful girl gets the super hunky guy after some tragedy... it gives my life purpose while stuck on public transport and the politics of the day gives me stress hives. Mandy Magro's novels make me want to go out and buy new riding boots, jodpurs, and find me a cow boy. Who also rides motorbikes.

A Country Mile by Mandy Magro - I really enjoyed this book! It kept me interested every page, with unexpected twists that were in perfect keeping with the story. Really well written characters. Dylan the gorgeous country boy with tattoos, a motorbike and a life long dark family secret that impacts more than just his immediate family, he just can't get Sophie the love of his teenage years, out of his head, even though she up and left him and shattered his heart in a million pieces. Sophie the stunning country girl next door who had everything, got weighed down by the heavy, dark family secrets she overheard one night. Throw in a devastating jealous threat that had her running from her life to try keep all the secrets, until the secrets finally broke her and she decided to come home and unburden herself and her family. Little did she know how many people were holding deep buried secrets. Easy to read rural romance, would definitely recommend.
I had my fingers crossed going into A Country Mile as my luck with contemporary Aussie romances is pretty bad. But, seeing how this is the first book by Mandy Magro I’ve read, I wasn’t disappointed. I enjoyed it, but did find it oh so very Australian - which isn’t always a compliment. However, I did like the characters and the closeness of their relationship, and weirdly enough, Bluey was a standout character. Loved his “get stuffed” routine, I could just picture a cocky screaming that at someone 😄.
In regards to the big secret, well, it was a doozy, and I liked the way everyone’s secrets caught up with them. And in a big way for some.
3.5 stars Great easy read Likeable characters. A bit of mystery to keep you guessing The typical hunky hero complete with sex and soppy but not too much that it became annoying Predictable ending Enjoyable
Omfg! This book! I devoured it!!!! I loved all the characters well maybe except Angus and Zac! I loved Dylan so much! What a stand up guy! I really loved the storyline and all the twists and turns that happened!
