THERE IS A GENERATION III by WH Buzzard is the third in a series of four satires that makes fun of the kids of those heroes who survived the Great Depression, triumphed in World War II, and rebuilt Europe and Japan. A “laugh out-loud”* look by a “master storyteller”* at the 1950's Baby Boomers, who accomplished in their time rock'n'roll, souped-up hot rods, the bop, and grew into the rebels of the 1960's who would change American values forever one day. *Editor comments **Reviews are real; not purchased or traded for.
As a troubled unmanageable teenager headed for self-destruction, the author once complained to an an older gentleman who had taken an interest that he was out of control, addicted, full of anger, and in constant trouble. "For thirty days," the wise old gentleman replied, "do one thing everyday for one hour you don't want to do for someone else. After a month you'll be self-disciplined." Lo and behold, his advice worked. This began a lifelong pursuit of effectual wisdom.
WH Buzzard has reached an age when he would like to pass along such hard-won wisdom to following generations in tongue-and-cheek adventure books. A West Texan at heart, he now lives in central Texas with his wife and spends his time writing, reading, swimming laps, and taking walks while thinking up "stretchers", to quote Mark Twain.
This book was quite an interesting read. A book not based on my generation by the baby boomer generation. Even though it is fiction, I felt it had a ring of truth to it. Especially since the war going on in that era brought about a lot of issues that were mentioned in this book. Throughout the book, I was reminded of my grandfather who served and felt as if Tim was his voice. The book is on kindle unlimited if you have the amazon subscription and it's worth the read.
Having read the 1st 2 installments, I was not disappointed with volume 3, & I hope the adventures continue. I liked the almost Zelig-like presence of the protagonists in volumes 2 & 3. This 3rd novel felt a little short, as if it had been finished in a hurry. But it was still a very enjoyable read. I received a Kindle edition from a Goodreads giveaway.
I received There is a Generation 3 as part of a Giveaway. This is a book that is easy to keep reading. Honestly, I felt like the story still had places to go. I never read series' books because I hate reading and feeling like I'm missing something, this book felt totally self contained.
Just not my cup of tea. The back cover write-up tells that this is a rollicking 1950s satire, but I found little to be funny never mind rollicking. Halfway through I put it down permanently. Sorry.
I enjoyed this volume more than the previous two. It wasn’t as dark, but again, it is dark. Not for the faint of heart. Wasn’t expecting the ending section, which came as a surprise. I doubt I will read any further volumes, unless it starts lightening up and quits being so morbid.
This is the 3rd book in this entertaining series. It has many misadventures, much danger and even some humor. Thank you to the author, W H Buzzard for the gift of this book.
I won this on Goodreads. I have not read the first 2 books in the series, but I probably will. I did enjoy reading about the adventures of the boys. I found the storyline very interesting. I hope there is a fourth book as I would like to find out what happens to them. This book leaves you hanging.
