As the title suggests, this book talks about recognition. This is something all people crave. The more recognition a leader can provide to his/her team, they better the team will perform.

4 elements of recognition are:
1) Praise
2) Thankfulness
3) Respect
4) Opportunity

The book really goes in depth in each of these aspects and provides examples for all of these. The value of the book is in the examples so a leader can see how they can apply these concepts to their daily activities.

The 2 main themes:
1) Recognition has to be very specific. What are you thanking them for? What is the monetary award for?
2) Be timely, the sooner you recognize a person after they do something the better.

Another book I reviewed for my meetings and events column. This one is aimed towards managers and describes just how to recognize employees so they know they've been recognized and appreciate it. Now if we can get our managers to read the book, we're all set.

Good ideas for rewarding, praising, encouraging employees. Lots of research went into looking at several companies and interviewing both managers and employees.
