Insanely boring, so far. I'm really struggling with it. This thing is too general to be useful as a basic manual, although it does have some nice exercises to use with consumers. It assumes working knowledge not just of CBT but also of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, which sure would have been nice to know before I plonked down money for it. It would be greatly improved, as well, if the authors did not keep recommending this, that and the other assessment tool about every two paragraphs (without telling you how to access it). Really breaks u the flow. It would be improved by more case examples. A basic ACT manual would be a lot better. I'm still not done with it. Sigh.
Whilst studying at University I was introduced to CBT as best practice. During my Provisional Psychology training I was introduced to ACT as 'better practice'. Mindfulness and Acceptance Based Behavioural Therapy is really just ACT innovation. It uses many ACT principles and strategies as a base.
As I have a good ACT background knowledge I found this text easy to follow. The included worksheets and handouts make it a valueable guide in how to use MBBT in practice.
