Being kidnapped is not as thrilling as one courageous girl had hoped.  Her big, ugly villain turns out to be an ordinary child cruncher.  What a disappointment! Instead of taking her on all sorts of adventures, he only wants to eat her up.  Luckily, she knows just what to do.

He must be new to the child-crunching business; he clearly was not prepared for how much work little kids are!

Fun, tongue-in-cheek romp about a bored girl who hopes being kidnapped will enliven her day.

If you're reading this aloud it is essential that the readee be able to see the pictures, as words and illustrations tell a slightly different story.

A fiesty young heroine who's hoping to have fun with the villain, but when he seems ordinary and set on eating her, she heads for home. I like the fact that she "borrows" the child cruncher's horse, thereby having a friend to play with. All's fair in love and breakfast!

The feisty heroine of this book has no trouble outwitting the great, galumphing villain who simply wants her as his breakfast treat. While the premise of the book - a willing child going off with a stranger while her clueless father doesn't even listen when she tells him what's happening - makes me uneasy, I'm won over by the Quentin Blake-like illustrations and the adventuresome cleverness of the little girl.

Een grappig boek wat ik heb leren kennen doordat ik jaren geleden het bijbehorende Kleuteruniversiteit project heb gewonnen.

Het verhaal wordt verteld door de hoofdpersoon, een meisje wat zomervakantie heeft. (Ik heb nog eens terug gelezen of de naam van het meisje wordt genoemd, maar dat is niet het geval.)
Op deze dag dat de Kindereter haar ontvoert, verveelt ze zich in ieder geval niet.

Het bijbehorende project is kort om mee te werken en wat mij betreft het gehele jaar in te zetten.
Het boek zelf is misschien ook wel spannend en bijpassend rondom Halloween of Sinterklaas (vanwege het paard).

Heel grappig verhaaltje met toffe tekeningen.
Dit verhaal gaat over een meisje dat zich verveelt en tot haar grote vreugd wordt ontvoerd door een kindereter, waarbij ze de bedoelingen van haar ontvoerder in haar kinderlijke naïviteit verkeerd begrijpt. Zij lijkt de kindereter vooral te zien als een vriendelijke man die haar van haar verveling wilt afhelpen.

Het is dan ook een interessant voorleesboek om achteraf even met de kinderen te bespreken: heeft iedereen begrepen wat de bedoeling van de kindereter was, en hoe het hoofdpersonage daaraan is ontsnapt?
Kinderen leren met dit boek al een beetje tussen de regels te lezen.

I really love the exuberance in colors and lines and the happy-go-lucky girl narrator who's not fazed by dangers or obstacles. A very enjoyable read but even more enjoyable feast for the eyes.
