What a beautiful state! Seems to me that lots of the movies I have seen that have covered wagons come from Nebraska. I knew a guy who lived there until he was in high school. He told me that when he had finished working and retired he wanted to go back and buy some land there and build his own house. Made it sound like a really nice place to be.

In Nebraska (True Book My United States Zeiger has once again produced a memorable little book of one of the states which includes the fact that more than 100 tornadoes can hit Nebraska in a single year. It was also educational to read that horses were not native to the United States but brought here by Spanish conquerors and colonizers in the 1500s and that by the 1700s Native Americans were using them to travel farther and faster, especially in the hunt for bison. One area that Zeiger mentions but would be good to provide additional details is that Omaha becomes an important location in the civil rights movement but gives no account of how or why. Regardless, it is home to Warren Buffet and headquarters to his vast fortune.

My kids really enjoyed learning about Nebraska with this book. We didn't read the book from cover to cover because it would be too much for the kids. This book had amazing photographs that show all of the amazing features of Nebraska. This book covers local dishes, culture, history, animals, plant life. It also has a really cool facts page that talks about different things. I really like this book and it is for sure a neat book to check out.
