I received this book in a GoodReads giveaway. This is now an important book in my personal collection.
In the introduction Valencia Porter writes "...a compilation of my years of research into this area--combining the wisdom of ancient methods such as Ayurvedic medicine with modern science to bring about optimal health and well-being. This book is much more than a one-time detox prescription; it's an opportunity to transform your life with a comprehensive plan for cleaning things up on biological, personal, and social levels. Taking any one of the "Action Steps" in this plan will lead you down the path to a healthier life, and the more steps you take, the more benefit you'll receive." This quote embodies the purpose for writing this book and embodies the wealth of information contained in the text.
The first section is titled "Awareness" and focuses on environmental toxins and the impact they have on health. The next section, "Awareness", assists the reader in determining their personal level of exposure to toxins from physical, chemical, and mental and emotional sources. The third section, "Action", focuses on specific areas where we may be exposed to toxins- what we eat, what we put on our bodies, and our physical environment. Porter offers practical solutions to reduce or eliminate those exposures.
The text includes specific information/details on specific toxins, where to find information on products containing these toxins, and suggestions for resources on the internet or real world organizations for more information.
Following all of the steps in this action plan may lead many readers into a radical change of lifestyle. However, when Porter writes in the introduction that taking any one of the action steps will lead you on the path to a healthier life this is an opportune place to begin. Take the first step, experience positive change, then decide on the next step to implement.
There is a TON of information. It’s obvious Dr Porter did her research. But its not just information it’s written in a way that inspired me to take action. Genuinely enjoyed this book. I’ve already started to make changes. Many thanks!
